I'm already seeing people post abt the Button Moment, which isn't surprising but there's smth no one else has really noticed and it's that
THE BUTTON MOMENT IS VERY RELEVANT TO TRANS!JAX AS A CONCEPT
This moment works more than just an escalation of his current breakdown and him accidentally outting the fact he'd rather stay in the circus- ITS A RED PILL/BLUE PILL MOMENT
In the Matrix, the blue pill represents denial of the truth, and the choice to live in blissful ignorance, and the red pill represents accepting reality and learning a life altering truth.
That truth in that moment is the truth of everyone watching him make that choice- but it's more than that.
The Matrix is a VERY obvious trans allegory, and the pill scene is the biggest part of that. This ABSOLUTELY feels like a parallel the writers did on purpose. This can NOT be an accident.
Especially when we finally see his room and it's very traditionally feminine and pink and flowery and soft and childlike. Which doesn't fit his actual presented personality nearly at ALL. Also not to mention how angry and uncomfortable and aggressive he got when he was forced to wear the dress.
Some other important things to consider from episode 7:
Jax's eye color after the abstraction scene:
PINK WHITE AND BLUE - THE TRANS FLAG COLORS
And the colors of this scene where he made contact with Ribbit:
BLACK, YELLOW, WHITE, AND PURPLE, THE NONBINARY FLAG COLORS
This part is a bit more conjecture on my part, but my current theory is that the biggest reason why Jax is so scared to go back is because when he was outside the circus, he was disowned for being trans.
When Zooble sarcastically asks him if he has anyone to go back to, his reaction is extremely intense to the point where he can't even hide it like he does with most interactions. If he came from an abusive or exclusionary background, of course he wouldn't want to go back there.
a lot of trans people deal with social alienation and isolation. That might have lead him to grow extremely intense attachments to the friends he made inside the circus, so when he lost them both, it kinda broke smth in him.
He's stuck somewhere unreal where he can't control his mind or body, he lost the first and only people to ever show him real support and understanding, and tried to desperately grasp hold onto his identity by forcing himself and everyone around him into predetermined roles. He's already on the verge of completely falling apart when he's faced with the threat of being sent back to where he came from, to somewhere where nobody ever loved him or saw him for who he was. Ofc that would send him off the edge entirely.
