Temperament:
Rowan is a gentle young man who wouldn’t hurt a flea, he’s very sensitive and sweet but can stand up for himself if need be. He’s extremely patient, willing, and kind to everyone he meets, whether they return his kindness or not. Soft-spoken, he very rarely raises his voice or gets angry, however if someone does manage to piss him off, he’ll forgive them with a little bit of begging on their part.
When it comes to relationships, Rowan is very tentative and shy, tending to let his partner let him know when it’s okay to give them affection or when they want to be left alone. Once he gets a bit more comfortable, he’ll slowly begin to become more cuddly and affectionate as time goes on. Relationships make him very nervous and uncomfortable when he first starts dating someone due to what he was put through as a teenager.
Background Info:
Rowan lived a relatively normal life with his parents and two younger sisters until the age of 13, when he had come out to his family as gay. His parents, who were heavily convinced that homosexual people should burn in hell, reacted horribly to the news and sent him away to a group of supposed “holy pastors” to have the gay ‘demon’ removed from his soul because they were convinced that he was possessed.
For six years, he was tortured, beaten, taken against his will, starved for days on end, and made to believe that being gay was a sin that he could not dare commit, lest he be in searing pain if he ever even tried to think about it. Yet through it all, Rowan never lost the quiet, gentle nature that he’d always possessed, choosing instead to passively suffer through all of the abuse in hopes that if he cooperated, he might be able to survive. At the age of nineteen, the day before he was set free, one of the pastors took a red hot knife and carved a massive, jagged cross into the center of his shoulder blades, another beneath his right eye to serve as a constant reminder that they viewed him as the Devil’s child.
During the six years of living hell that he was forced to endure, a paranormal entity attached itself to him, serving as yet another tormentor for him to deal with. After he was released and set free, the entity followed him no matter where he went, keeping him up at night with creepy laughter, shaking his bed and continuing to make his life a living hell.
Even now, the paranormal entity continues to torment and haunt his every waking moment, causing him to be exhausted and skittish whenever night falls, a time he’s grown to dread. Still, he remains as kind and even tempered as always, preferring to back down rather than fight when faced with any sort of confrontation or threat.
