I cannot recommend watching the rest of Wizard People, Dear Reader highly enough.

I’m so in love with him
King Kong (1933) Tumblog
There were two things that stuck out the most to me. The first was that Ann was still scared of Kong by the end of the film. Everything the audience learns about Kong, other that what he physically does, is based from Ann’s interactions with him. So when she was still scared and screaming near the end, we just don’t give a shit about Kong and barely bat an eyelash when he dies. Beauty didn’t kill the Beast; she was scared of him and kept running away. This is completely different from the 2005 remake; Ann and Kong technically became friends and even danced with each other on ice in New York for a while. As a result, Kong’s death, shortly after, had a much bigger impact. The second was how Charlie was portrayed: a stereotypical Asian with “bad” English, wearing a Chinese hat, and having a minor role. To make matters worse, his actor, Victor Wong, was uncredited for his role, along with a shit ton of other films he was in. But if there is one thing that I’m grateful for, it’s that at least his character wasn’t bullied. Ann was kind to him and none of the other characters bothered him one bit, at least as far as I remember. Additionally, when Charlie realized that the Natives kidnapped Ann and started shouting “All hands on deck! Everybody on deck!” I was completely shocked in that not only did no one laugh, ignore him, and throw some racial slurs, but everyone actually took him seriously and listened to him.
Disney animator Millicent Patrick never received the deserved credit for her role in designing the iconic Gill-man costume for Creature from the Black Lagoon (1954)
