It’s not just any church, it’s a church known for being homophobic, which says a lot considering how many churches and their members operate. The church is so known for its anti LBGTQ beliefs that Elliot Page called him out for this YEARS ago.

Like for a church to be known as that homophobic and an actor specifically singling Chris out for going to that church, yeah, Chris has earned his disdain. Ans that’s just one of the reasons not the only one. Even then, this is reason alone to dislike him.

If AOC really wanted to make a statement about classism and the 1%, why did she attend in the first place? The Met Gala is a function that the vast majority of people will never have an opportunity to attend. (I mean, lol, a ticket is as much as what a lot of us make in a year lmao.) She was still attending based on privilege and position, it’s not some Cinderella story.

I would’ve had So Much respect if she’d posted a photo of the invite on twitter and been like “hey, btw, I received an invite, but I didn’t accept it because this is a frivolous waste for the privileged class to show off with and that’s not me” or “thanks, that’s really nice of you, but since the people I represent could likely never attend an event like this, I’m going to have to decline.” That would’ve been a statement and, since it would’ve been made by AOC, it would’ve gotten attention. But, she didn’t ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

And, if she was going to attend (and obviously did), why did she work with an already established designer who sells thousand dollar handbags, to make her statement? There are TONS of people in New York working on becoming fashion designers. There are schools full of students trying everything they can to catch that break. Why didn’t she turn to them? Instead of adding to the investment opportunities of a Canadian fashion designer, she could’ve promoted the work of, and increased opportunities for, the people she claims to be working on behalf of! But again, she didn’t ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

So, being given a ticket and a dress because she’s in a position of power and authority does not mean she’s above scrutiny and that there weren’t better ways for her to respond to the situation.
