I really went for the majestic look in the final composite
My final project for 3d modeling done in zbrush
Next project I'm attempting is charizard in Zbrush
3d model of blastoise made with Maya and mudbox. Took longer than I thought and the model lost more detail than I would have liked but for my first full character sculpt and texture I thought it went pretty well.
Working on some musculature on blastoise
Some progress shots of my blastoise model
This is not a city but its a cozy little house. It took me way too long to be able to texture this house so from now on my textures will look much better.

The magazine cover I used really makes me laugh. The subject matter of the image has absolutely nothing to do with cars. Two breasts popping out of a shirt that is way too small, really has no similarities to taking a car and making it go fast. I find incredibly amusing that a car magazine would make a magazine with the focus not on cars. The binary I see is cars vs. sex. Although the ad may not deliberately show the contrast, the fact that Hot Rod Magazine would make a car magazine about beautiful women and no cars means that sex appeal trumps over making a magazine about cars. The girl on the cover isn’t even pictured with any cars near or even on the same page. Media today has a large emphasis on objectifying women and turning them into objects. The magazine blatantly advertises “hot girls” and turns its back on what the point of a car magazine is. The magazine effectively uses girls to sell and as an owner of the magazine I can say from experience that their marketing scheme works. There is no doubt in my mind that this issue of Hot Rod Magazine is the companies best selling issue of the year.

I chose the December cover of Hot Rod Magazine. The cover shows a blonde woman with her hand over her mouth and unzipping her polka dot shirt. Hot Rod Magazine is a magazine about old cars and beefing them up. As one would assume the target audience of the magazine are males aging from sixteen to fifty years old. The promiscuous cover cuts off half of the girls face so you aren’t even able to see her eyes. The main focus of the image is the woman’s breasts. The background of the image is a bland white just to make sure you don’t get by distracted by anything else. All the writing on the cover is designed to be sexually enticing to the target audience. Although her expression shows the look of surprise, one could infer that her shirt did not unzip itself. The third biggest text besides Hot Rod and girls, is hot in all caps with an exclamation point. This special editon includes old pictures of cars in the background of beautiful, seductive women. The main intent of this cover is to use sexual appeal to sell as many copies as they possibly can. This magazine isn’t about cars at all its only about women and their bodies, in fact there is little to no text inside the actual magazine.
Ethical analysis
The case of the notorious Reddit blogger Michael Brutsch, or more commonly known as Violentacrez, really caught my attention. As a fellow Reddit user I am astonished by what he has attributed to creating on the site. The list of what Violentacrez has unjustly posted on the internet is a lengthy one, consisting of scandalous image of underage women, racism, porn, and incest. The horrific things he has posted are wrong and undoubtedly disturbing. Brutsch’s new project is a sub-reddit called “creepshots” which consists mainly of licentious images of underage teens who are unaware they are being photographed. Not only is this ethically wrong the number of posts is just terrible. Violentacrez had even used his powerful position on Reddit to become untouchable. He was immune to criticism and continued to spread his filth and abuse the free speech that Reddit provides. I oppose the things Violentacrez has gotten away with over the years. This problem affects anyone who uses Reddit for joy. Violentacrez has plagued the site. Users who have taken a stand against this tyrant should be congratulated for letting the world see this internet monster. I can’t believe that Reddit has supported the pedophiles that commonly gaze at Violentacrez’s sub-reddits. They should be put to a stop because what they are doing is ethically wrong. The photo shown below is a picture from the subreddit creepshots
aura
Walter Benjamin brings a great point to the table about aura. Benjamin believes that because of the invention of easily re-produced imagery such as film photography, that these images don’t have the same effect on the viewer as a one-of-a-kind work of art like a painting. Due to the fact that photography and other forms of now digital art can be accessed by anyone with internet access, these pieces of art don’t have the same effect because a certain quality they lack because of the ease of reproduction. Not only can these images be easily reproduced they can be manipulated in a way that the image is no longer what the artist has created. Knowing that the images can be changed in this way with such ease makes the viewer perceive what they see in a different way. The art no longer is viewed as a unique piece of art, but is seen without the same awe as if looking upon the ceilings of the Sistine Chapel.
As a photographer it is often unsettling knowing how difficult to awe the viewer and creating something unique and different than any other image. I experience this with every picture I take. I took a picture of an osprey flying low to the water with a rainbow trout in its talons. I saw the picture as spectacular, but the image received little attention because anyone can look on Google and see thousands of the same thing happening. My photograph had lost its aura. Instead of being unique and awe-striking photo it was reduced to being another one of “those” images. An amazing capture of time that had captivated me had not had the same effect on anyone else because the photo was no longer unique. I could not convey through the photograph how slim the chances are of capturing the same picture again. The split second was in a sense one-of-a-kind, but because of technology the photo could be seen as an everyday occurrence which is quite un-encouraging. On the other hand my photograph of the osprey can do things art in museums can’t; it can be seen by anyone with a computer or smartphone and reach masses of viewers easily. Someone who has never seen an osprey catch a fish or even simply seen an osprey can experience it too. Someone in Tokyo could look at my picture and see a sight they cannot with their own eyes. The internet has allowed for people to see amazing things they may not ever be able to otherwise.
Facebook has allowed for me and my other friends who participate in photography to learn from each other. It is a tool to see other ideas I might not have thought of. I can learn through others experimentation to see what works and what doesn’t. As well as seeing amazing photos from my close friends I can experience how they see the world and all of the things in it. There are many things I would not know how to do or even thought of because of Facebook.
As a photographer who was already fairly confident in editing photographs i liked this class because I was able to learn techniques to further my abilities in creating pieces of art from scratch. I would say my strengths are photo manipulation and creating digital art in photoshop. My ultimate goal is to further my abilities as an artist and to make a living once I graduate. My final project was my favorite because before this class I wasn't confident in creating images using the techniques I knew from before and after taking this class.I want to be something along the lines of a graphic design artist so this class helped become closer to that goal.
