There are hardly any female werewolves because they break all the classic rules of femininity. They force you to confront female violence, strength, size, grotesqueness and uncontrollability. Historically female shapeshifters always shift into something dangerous (snake) or sleek (cat) or dainty (bird) but female werewolves ignore the masculine gaze completely. They're distorted beasts that have no ulterior motive except to destroy. Nothing about them is nurturing or modest. They're the opposite of what a woman "should be." Their omission from pop culture is not an accident.

I do not think this kind of denialism is unique to bisexuality I'm just talking about bisexuality specifically because I'm bi but it's kinda crazy how The Newsreader and The Bisexual are shows with the most specific, compassionate and complex portrayals of bisexuality ever brought to the small screen where the bisexual protagonists make their bisexuality extremely clear over multiple episodes and relationships. and YET! people with eyes and ears will view these shows and think to themselves "ykw I don't think this character is bisexual actually" like. shut up!!! shut up!!!!!

i know i said i did not want to talk about the nolan odyssey but i do have one more nodyssey post in me. i actually think the idea of odysseus understanding his story as existing both in and out of a historic timeframe is a fun way to handle the liminality caused by the story being part of an extensive oral tradition. however having him say "our age of bronze is collapsing" is perhaps not the way i would have done that

Sorry to be grumpy Classicist here, but guys.

He doesn't mean the archeological bronze age.

he's referring to the greek myth of the ages, as set down in Works and Days by Hesiod (who was a contemporary of Homer's, possibly, but the myth obviously predates him). At first was a golden age of gods when man did not have to work and the land gave up it's fruit freely. Then there was the silver age of gods. The bronze age is the age of violence and war, followed by the age of (human) heroes, and then the age of iron, where all men must toil and live short, hardened lives.

Please just read like the first 200 lines of Hesiod and then come back to reevaluate that line.
