stop stop stop making appeals to some 'natural state of humanity.' war and slavery and xenophobia are in fact some of the most universal human behaviors ever recorded. humans do not have any kind of innate Noble Spirit that is being corrupted. You can just say "war is bad because it hurts people" you can just leave it at that! that should be an effective statement just by itself! shut the fuck up about Essences!
the term 'toxic yuri' has been driven into the ground. Enough
every time a fandom buzzword starts being used in marketing copy it should be immediately be retired and humanely put down
On the northwest Belgian coast, there is a little known tradition: shrimp fishing on horseback. The activity consists of what its name describes: fishing shrimp on a horse. In the 15th century, shrimp fishing on horseback was still practised on the North Sea coasts in France, the Netherlands and even the South of England. This activity represented an extra revenue needed for the household. Nowadays there is only one place in which it is still ongoing: Oostduinkerke, a sub-municipality of the municipality of Koksijde.

this post and all its wonderful additions (look in the notes) is circulating again. these photos and many of the ones added in the notes come from the US Southwest.
right now the trump administration is attacking the public lands in the Southwestern US. most recently (July 2026), in Utah the Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante national monuments have been cut by over 90% to allow for mining. these lands are sacred to multiple Native nations in the area and contain irreplaceable archeological sites. additionally, the commission of Native representatives who aided in management of these lands has been dissolved leaving Native people without a voice in caring for the remaining land. (read more here)
here in New Mexico, the 10 mile buffer zone surrounding Chaco Canyon preventing oil and gas drilling is under attack. Chaco Canyon contains incredibly old and incredibly fragile archeological sites sacred to Pueblo people. these sites are threatened by mining and drilling. (read more here)
The attack on the Chaco buffer zone is currently in a public comment period open until July 29. PLEASE leave a public comment to save these irreplaceable places.

namesakes of temperature scales and how real they sound:
Anders Celsius: yeah sure that's the name of a scientist I'll believe that
William "Lord Kelvin" Thompson: there's something really british going on here with that title but I suppose it checks out
Dan Fahrenheit: literally shut up

i think it’s really funny to get the perfect #aesthetic reading setup (a pot of tea, cute little snacks, lofi music, cat purring in my lap, sweater sleeves halfway over my hands etc) to read like the dirty secret of early modern capitalism: the global reach of the dutch arms trade, warfare and mercenaries in the seventeenth century by kees boterbloem
(Yoinked this from LinkedIn, genuinely interested in seeing how responses align with demographics) (so far it’s those of us over 35 being indignant but I wanna see how those fully plays out) (it’s cultural and technological history/memory, bruh)
