I'm reading a study on how nurses define the term 'drug seeking', and what makes them more likely to put the 'drug-seeker' label on a patient's charts and. well. let me just throw down some quotes
"Needy, unable to cope" (<- you try coping with chronic pain)
"Comfort seeking" (<- you mean.. having a preference for not being in pain.. how criminal)
"Using or trying to obtain drugs on a long-term, chronic base" (<- do you understand what 'chronic pain' means.)
"Asking for pain med then returning to sleep."
"States he’s level 10 pain, but does not appear to be in pain (or ‘5= on appearance)." (<- it is well-known that chronic pain patients tend not to display pain in the same way as acute pain patients)
"Dramatic response to pain" (<- notice how this directly contradicts the comment above. you cannot win)
"Gets IV med, then leaves unit to smoke or walk around" (<- wow requiring medication and then going off to do something you needed pain meds to be able to do is so suspicious)
the article itself put it best when it says: “some comments depict patients trying to apply sound pain management principles, such as continuing to take medication for persistent pain”. no wonder all the other literature on the matter says that women of colour are the most likely group to be labelled drug-seeking. this shit is entirely vibes-based (read: based on the prejudices of nurses and doctors)
"Stop scrolling and please help me spread the word, because if I've landed on your page you're most likely either a black woman or someone who cares about black women and the simple phrase I'm about to share could help save a black woman's life.
Doctors are to black women what police officers are to black men. That may seem controversial but I believe it to be true and I speak from personal experience.
If you've seen this TikTok you know that a 2016 study showed that 50% of medical students and residents thought that black people couldn't feel pain the same as white people.
And we learned from this video that because of a 1999 study, to this day, there's a black correction factor for the creatinin levels in black people's kidneys, meaning we're less likely to recieve a kidney transplant if needed.
So if you go to a doctor, feel you aren't getting proper treatment or they refuse the treatment you've requested, say to them the following:
I will need you to document on record that you are refusing the treatment (or medicine) I've requested, and the reason you are doing so."
This works. I have used it in other situations. If medical staff have to document and take responsibility and be on the hook legally for doing shady shit they behave much differently.
If you weren’t already going to spread this advice because black women are at risk, then spread it because it’s applicable to everyone else as well, including you reading this.
But particularly women, and especially black women.
Do not let these milktoast muppet white men content creators convince you that we are doomed. They are selling fear and profiting off of it.
His health is failing. The cult has lost its’ momentum. The Epstein victims are actively making their case and trials will be happening, worldwide. The GOP is fighting amongst themselves about everything. Dems are winning their elections at the state and federal levels. The military is being sent to cities to then stand around and be mocked. Judges have also ruled it’s illegal for them to be sent to blue cities in the first place. Alligator Alcatraz got shut down. They’re desperate to hire people for ICE because people keep quitting. Protests are happening every week, everywhere.
We are in a very scary and chaotic time. Project 2025 is terrifying. People are being emboldened to be violent, and people are being traumatized and harmed. The country has been divided and damaged, but not beyond repair and rebuild. We will get through this, we just can’t give up and comply in advance. Don’t let the bastards get you down.
Alligator Alcatraz isn't quite shut down – a federal judge has ordered they stop any new construction, stop bringing in prisoners, and take down any temporary fencing, light fixtures, etc. The order was passed on environmental grounds, i.e. this place is bad for the ecosystem of the Everglades. There's a separate case for the prisoners' legal rights that's only just now getting its first hearing today, September 4.
OP is still right though. Everyone is fighting back against these bastards, and they will crumble to pieces in the face of it.
Just to raise awareness at the situation in Canada right now to my non-Canadian followers: Toronto has been ranked as having the worst air quality in the world right now due to wildfires.
Toronto is not a wildfire-prone area. It is extremely close to the USA border, and the smog is currently affecting NY right now. There is literal chunks of debris in the air. The sky is orange, and the sun is nowhere to be seen.
Climate change and its effects are right outside your door. Data centres are the cause for the insane heat waves across the globe, and the increase in wildfires and other natural disasters.
You will watch recordings of the world burn around you, and only when you are behind the camera will you realize there is no going back.
Stop the data centres. Protect our planet.

Discord is supposedly saying this is going to affect "only 10% of users", but I really don't believe them at all. It's always going to be way worse and affect more people than what they claim.
So in case anyone needs it:
After Discord announced plans to require age verification for all users, a free, HTML-based tool emerged that aims to bypass facial scans on
Making this clear this’ll kill people. This’ll kill children. It only helps the government in destroying privacy.
People always gloss over how mentally damaging it can be to work in retail. I fucking hate that whenever I say “I could never work in retail again” someone has to reply “You snowflake millennials can’t take a starter job because you have to INTERACT with other people” No. Fuck you. I’ve worked as a planetarium host. I’ve worked as a public speaker. I’ve worked as a tutor and as a student teacher. I can work with people. I can work with crowds. Retail was fucking different. Retail was being treated as a subhuman. Retail was being treated so poorly that you have anxiety attacks before work. Having to work retail was a factor in my last suicide attempt. If I hear you say one fucking word about retail workers playing the victim I will personally break every bone in your body. Fuck You.
The holidays are coming up. Retail workers are going to be spiraling into a nightmare beyond human comprehension. If you’ve worked retail, you know this. If you haven’t, be aware of it. Please be kind to every retail worker you come across. Please be patient and understanding. It is misery out there.
Listen, okay.
A few years ago I went grocery shopping on Christmas Eve because I…frankly, because I forgot it was Christmas Eve. I’m sure a few people got a good laugh when it hit me mid-shop why it was so fucking crowded.
Anyway I went through self-checkout and halfway through my order it imploded.
Someone came over to help me with it and kept apologizing and after realizing this was not going to be as simple as them swiping a card and tapping a number, I said “would it make your life easier tonight if I just did the rest of my order through a regular checkout?” and the attendant said yes AND STARTED CRYING.
I want you, if you have never worked retail, to ask yourself what it would take to push you to the point that a friendly, neutral-value question would make you burst into tears. Imagine it, really think about it. And then realize retail and food service workers go through so much abuse THEIR LIMIT IS PROBABLY HIGHER THAN YOURS. Because they’re used to it.
Be kind. Ask a harried cashier if they need a minute to grab a drink of water. Offer them a smile. If the machine goes down, make it clear you know it’s not their fault. Nothing about your transaction will matter an hour from now—treat it that way. Let them breathe.
(Also, speaking as a veteran of the food service trenches, you know what made me feel A LOT better when I had an asshole customer? Another customer acknowledging that the first customer was an asshole. A simple “wow, who pissed in THEIR Cheerios this morning?” was enough to let me take a breath and relax and let it roll off more easily.)
Been feeling this a lot since I work in retail. Please be nice to retail workers. As I’ve mentioned in another post of mine, you don’t know what kind of day they’ve had. For all you know, they could be coming to work to get away from a bad situation at home. You do not need to make their lives worse because of a minor inconvenience that isn’t even their fault.
Be kind. Your mean comments could be the thing that pushes someone over the edge.
I like to tell Retail Workers (as they’re helping me) that they’re doing great. I also make sure to thank them anyway even if they can’t help me.
If your customer service voice is baby talk for adults, then my “being nice to retail workers” is a “talking calmly to a child about to have a meltdown” voice for adults.
The vibe you wanna go for is “hey buddy, I know you’re tired, I know you’re hungry, I know you’re stressed, but if you can just bear through this a little bit you’ll be home soon. It’s okay if things don’t go perfectly, you’re doing more than I could ever ask just by not starting to scream and cry.”
Go for this vibe the next 1,151 days and every day after that
Okay I’m going out on a limb as a former retail employee at Walmart to say something so controversial I’m expecting more hate mail over it:
Don’t shop at all between the Wednesday before Thanksgiving and the Tuesday after Cyber Monday.
If you must shop between that time. Write down a list of what you need and only get those things. Hold so much grace for the workers who want nothing more than to be home with their families during the holidays too.
We didn’t get to choose our days off. I was a product stocker and I got harassed so much on Black Friday by customers who didn’t come in with a list. Those who came in with a list of things they needed were far more likely to go elsewhere when I said we were out at x location. Or able to show gratitude when I could take them to the things they needed.
Lean hard on those social trainings: Say thanks if workers can help you. Say thanks when they try. Say thanks for their time if they cannot get the things you needed.
And just so you know:
Appliances, electronics, and “this years hottest ticket item” that will get a replacement or upgrade in a year or two like phones or game consoles will be more cheaper late December/early January. Don’t fall for the 20/30 percent off sales. They’re never worth it when another month goes by and it’s actually 50 percent off then. No kid I know will ever argue about getting a Christmas card that has: “Xbox S will arrive on this day in January ” written inside. If they ask why the wait, you can say it’s getting shipped. Build up your kids Delayed Gratification skill in this instantaneous world we live in.
Planning meals and things ahead can be difficult I know. So if you do forget, add to the list and get just those things on your list. The retail workers will than you for your expediency and planning.
helpful on 1,151 days left- thank you

my brain has subconciously decided that tiktok is “unhealthy” but tumblr is “healthy” which i dont think is entirely true but i kind of like the idea.
i dont want a childproofed internet i am almost 30 fucking years old. give your kid an internet safety talk and stop making it the problem of every adult on the planet every time some cryptkeeper legislator gets the brilliant idea (via conservative lobbying) to push through yet another bill gutting our access to free expression + increasing the powers of the surveillance state + lining the pockets of Big Data in the name of Protecting The Kids they wont even feed. this shit is exhausting i can’t believe we’re going to be fighting about it for the rest of my life
awww the like button turns into a rainbow when you press it! that's so cute...hey staff what's with all the trans women you keep nuking?
i think we should be ridiculing them more for this. you don't get to try and go all "queer website" when your staff likes to go on nuking sprees targeting the trans fem users
would be remiss not to mention that the rainbow notably straight up just removed the trans flag colors from it. like they’re gone. it’s the progress flag minus the trans flag colors.
that’s not the whole flag, now is it
hey staff what the fuck
hey staff don't you think you're being too on-the-nose
HEY STAFF DONT YOU THINK YOU'RE BEING TOO ON-THE-NOSE
im in the pussy like turmeric in tupperware

Why is this all management literally everywhere
Where's that post about how anticapitalist satire will always get one-upped by like, someone describing their job.
