wanna know something incredible? at the beijing olympics opening ceremony, a nine year old girl is a red dress sang the national anthem with a beautiful voice and wowed the stadium….but it was exposed that she wasn’t the actual voice, it was a recorded take from a seven year old girl that they deemed too ugly to perform herself, so her voice was used, but a prettier little girl was the face.
i would happily unalive whoever made that decision.

It’s a TON of work. It’s not doing nothing???? It’s taking pictures at the ass crack of dawn to make a hotel stay “look like a vacation” it’s eating cold food because it took forever to get that right lighting. It’s editing photos and videos for hours because shit has to look professional af. We need a series of books set in a world where there are no men. Just women. Romance stories, action and adventure, coming-of-age. stories of all kind, set in a women-only world. Men just don’t exist.
Actually, it’s a reoccurring idea in science fiction. The single-sex society. From wikipedia, there is a long tradition of women-only worlds, but not true for the opposite, as “Joanna Russ suggests this is because men do not feel oppressed, and therefore imagining a world free of women does not imply an increase in freedom and is not as attractive”. (A world free of women would mean no class of people for men to oppress and have their way with, so obviously not attractive).
I highly recommend everyone to read feminist science-fiction.
The Celaeno series of lesbian fantasy novels take place on a world where there are only women and are really good :D

Yall should check out Jane Fletcher then because 90% of her books are about societies where men literally don’t exist. My fav being “Dynasty of Rogues” which focuses around a group of rangers, and ofc it’s cram packed with lesbians :)
The Celaeno series (Shadow of the Knife, Rangers at Roadsend, The Temple at Landfall, The Walls of Westernfort, and The Dynasty of Rogues) are set on a female-only world. The other series she wrote (the Lyremouth Chronicles) is set on an earth-like world with a mix of male and female characters but the majority of the 4 book series is about the relationship between two women, one from a female dominated culture and the other from a culture where bisexuality is the norm and where men and women are equal due to the prevalence of magic.
Another highly recommended book is Ammonite by Nicola Griffith. It’s a sci-fi story about a planet where a native virus kills any man (and some women) who sets foot on its surface. The story follows a female researcher sent from Earth to research a cure for the virus and trace it’s history. It’s one of the better lesbian books I’ve read.
@emilywithopinion I have a ton of posts in my “to read” tag, too, if you want to check there! Some of these sounded like what you were looking for.
I would posit that there are actually a LOT of books that demonstrate, or come close to demonstrating, men writing a world without any women in it. Consider that so many works of fiction by and for men don’t have female characters that aren’t there to be sexed up or saved. Consider how may men craft entire worlds without a single meaningful female role. Like, The Hobbit comes to mind, they mention female characters rarely if ever. I think his (Bilbo’s) awful cousin is the only named female character? There is not a single line, anywhere in the book, that is spoken by a woman or girl. The Bechdel test exists because women just don’t get on screen.
What sets the Hobbit apart from a lot of other books is that there is no romantic sub plot. I want you to think to yourself, how many books/movies/shows etc, if you cut out all romantic or sexual subplots, and all the characters that were solely there for those purposes, would have any women left? (LOTR gets to survive that one because the few women characters actually have stuff to do besides). If you removed women who were only there as damsel in distress motivators, how many would still count?
Men write endlessly about worlds where women don’t exist to them. Anyone remember that kerfuffle when someone supposedly made an “Avengers Endgame” edit where they cut out all the cootie girl power bits to make a mega-straight he-man’s bro-cut of the film - and still had 99% of the film left with a coherent plot? Cutting it all out didn’t impact the film hardly at all; women just didn’t contribute all that much to the movie. Or, rather, a film department of a major corporation staffed mostly by men wrote a film where they didn’t let women contribute much to the plot or the dialogue of their big movie.
Taking into account all those statistics and studies about how women only make up some 25-30 % of background crowd shots, how people consider a dialogue to be equally gender balanced if women are speaking only 30% of the time, how if there is one woman on the entire team and people are like “the feminists are taking over”…men just don’t write a lot of stories where women are 50% of the population. How crazy would it seem, four seasons into a show or eight books into a series, for the characters to sit around for some downtime and world building, and discuss amongst themselves that women are extinct or nearly so, and that’s why they’re out numbered 4:1 everywhere on this entire fictional world. How many media franchises exist where such a scene could be easily inserted, not only changing nothing but canonically backed up by 99% of the rest of the series?
Men don’t realize that they’re doing it, but they’re telling on themselves all the time. We have thousands upon millions of creative, imaginative men crafting worlds that demonstrating that to them, women are invisible, the only time a woman is worth mentioning is when he’s going to own her, save her, kill her. If it weren’t for the ever-present wish-fullfiling indulgence of demonstrating the lead male’s heterosexual progress with his chosen target, would they bother having women in the story in the first place? For a LOT of men out there, they’re already completely saturated in media where the vast majority of female characters are only there to remind them that the main character, and by extension the reader, is a heterosexual. The entirety of all women’s dignity, value, contribution, presence, voice, and demands are easily erased.

I'm gay. I don't always necessarily identify as a man, but I do feel very connected to gayness and gay masculinity. My attraction to men feels gay, I'm not gay because I'm a man, but I'm a man because I'm gay.
And sometimes I just wish people would actually see me like that. I wish I could walk into a gay/queer bar and immediately be understood that I'm most likely a man attracted to other men.
I just want to be able to visibly queer, visibly gay, instead of looking like a straight girl the second I take a step back towards femininity.
Being gay is not a costume to be worn.
