Google’s doodles can go a long way in delighting the user and providing a memorable, interactive experience – even I’m one to screenshot the creativity! If Google were to extend its UX details to the core functionality of its search landing page, users might be even more impressed. This bottom concept of category filtering pre-search can eliminate the frustration of having to view the default web result before clicking to view the content you were really searching for, such as Images. The additional filter for Country and Date are interesting, and could either steer the user away from or emphasize the biased/default results that search engines provide a specific user (based on the user’s location and search patterns).
