DISCLAIMER : I’ll be using THIS PDF, THIS WEBSITE, & THIS WEBSITE as my reference points for symptoms & the like, but I’d like to note I am also diagnosed with a severe case of mixed-type ADHD. I will be keeping this headcanon as unbiased as I possibly can; but I am noting it for saying that I am not just throwing it on her as a means of categorizing her behavior in an ableist way by using a mental disorder.
Starting off with symptoms from the first source :
Nora has the following :
Behavioral : excitability ; fidgeting ; hyperactivity ; impulsivity ; lack of restraint ; persistent repetition of words or actions
She may also have depression. This will be held off of this headcanon for now; & saved for another.
Using the THIRD source, the symptoms ( with further detail ) she exhibits are the following :
Have problems sustaining attention in tasks or play, including conversations, lectures, or lengthy reading
Not seem to listen when spoken to directly
Have problems organizing tasks & activities, such as what to do in sequence, keeping materials & belongings in order, having messy work & poor time management, & failing to meet deadlines
Be easily distracted by unrelated thoughts or stimuli
Be forgetful in daily activities, such as chores, errands, returning calls, & keeping appointments
Fidget & squirm in their seats
Leave their seats in situations when staying seated is expected, such as in the classroom or in the office
Run or dash around or climb in situations where it is inappropriate or, in teens & adults, often feel restless
Be unable to play or engage in hobbies quietly
Be constantly in motion or “on the go,” or act as if “driven by a motor”
Talk nonstop
Blurt out an answer before a question has been completed, finish other people’s sentences, or speak without waiting for a turn in conversation
Have trouble waiting his or her turn
Interrupt or intrude on others, for example in conversations, games, or activities
She would NEVER have been diagnosed, so she lives with it completely untreated, despite knowing that her level of energy is questionable. I’d also like to quickly highlight a paragraph from the article : “ ADHD is more common in males than females, & females with ADHD are more likely to have problems primarily with inattention. Other conditions, such as learning disabilities, anxiety disorder, conduct disorder, depression, & substance abuse, are common in people with ADHD. ” ADHD is often found hand-in-hand with other conditions; so it’s more than possible that she’s harboring more than just this. Those conditions, however, are likely not anything she’s even somewhat aware of.
Moving to our other source, the most important bit of information to drop here would be this one :
“ Not every case of ADHD is the same.There are different subtypes of ADHD (inattentive, hyperactive, & combined type), & every person has a unique brain profile. As with anything else, no two people with ADHD are exactly the same & everyone experiences ADHD in their own way. ”
another would be :
“ There is a higher than normal incidence of learning disorders in the ADHD population, making need for academic accommodations more common. ” I believe Nora likely has a learning disorder, but not severe enough to the point it would affect her combat, seeing as she hyperfocuses on that.
This website also has a section for afab people’s experiences with ADHD ; since Nora is also afab, i will be delving into that as well. Seeing how the answers are provided in video format; I will not be able to directly quote them.
The first one I’d like to address deals with MEMORY PROBLEMS; detailing that afab people generally feel less intelligent than their amab peers or non-adhd peers of any gender. The solution is this is to limit the stimuli coming into your life; but Nora isn’t very available to do that. The closest to this we see her getting is when she’s listening to music & reading a book in her dorm room. She likely has problems with short-term memory, unless it’s something extremely important or something that sticks for another reason. It’s not rare for her to question plans or ideas or things from when she was in Beacon that she’s forgotten about. Sometimes, she’ll even temporarily forget important pieces of her life, or her friends’ lives, then remember them after the moment passes.
The second question I’d like to address deals with ESTROGEN / HORMONE LEVELS & how they cause AFAB / ESTROGEN EFFECTED peoples to have their ADHD work out funny. It causes everything to work out worse; raking up the symptoms to a high level. Of course, I’ll never be detailing out when this exactly happens to Nora, because that’s weird, but I do want to note that occasionally she might be acting out even more than usual, or fall into a certain routine or slump, & it’s likely a result of a hormonal change.
There is much more I’d like to address; from relationship strains to her hyperfocuses, but for now, I’d like to end this on the note that Nora has COMBINED-TYPE ADHD. I have also said that her acting out & general upbeat-ness could be a possible cover-up for anxious trauma after Kuroyuri, but, for the most part, that does not change anything about this. It is likely still apparent she has these symptoms & behavioral issues; but purposefully amps them up to hide away what she doesn’t want to have shown outwardly.
“ wow ... you’re so tall ! ” staring upwards, nora certainly acted like it was a much bigger gap than it should’ve been, bending her knees to appear even shorter in comparison to the other.
“ did you drink all your milk as a kid ? does that actually make you taller ? ” an exaggerated gasp follows her questions, hands flying to ball into fists against her mouth in a look of terror.
