This is a project that I've wanted to create for a while. This is a space kept by Strix, a guardian owl spirit who protects the letters that can never make it home. If you need a safe space of release, feel free to write to Strix as they do not judge.
Have questions that need human answers? Then you may reach out here. Otherwise, scream into the void and archive the things that can never be said to those who will never hear them.
If I could actually draw well, just know I'd be drawing Teia and Illario busting down the door to Lucanis' study going "You two are having sex!" while Rook puts her book down and goes, "We are? Lucanis why didn't you tell me?" in the most deadpan sarcastic voice ever. Meanwhile Lucanis is lying down with his head in Rook's lap and not even making a token motion to reach for his weapons like he would before because the man is blissed the fuck out from Rook running her fingers through his hair with her free hand while she reads aloud from the official Mourn Watch guide to all 376 species of carnivorous beetles and how to identify them.
It's just very important to me that those two are incredibly domestic but also super weird at the same time. They're very much a "sex is great and all but have you had a quiet night talking with your lover about anything and everything before falling asleep in each other's arms" sort of couple.
Tagged by @genjyoandgojyoandhakkai @serensama @woodlandeelf!! Merging all tags into a WIP whenever. I am working on the next chapter of Rookie (trying to get another one done before eventually tackling Magekiller's Bride some time this month... haha.... totally not avoiding it...)
Viago vents to Rook about Teia (and House Dellamorte)
Viago shrugged. "Caterina is more than seventy years old now. Her time will be over soon, and we've done this well without her. I suggested we just let her retire!" he scoffed with a wave of his hand. "But Teia didn't like that. Didn't like that we are 'leaving the First Talon out of things'," he mimicked. "She wants us to co-operate. Be a family." He banged his fist on the table and gestured violently. "The day House de Riva is family with House Dellamorte, will be the day I die."
Rook choked on her bread.
She fell into a red-faced coughing fit—which had Viago blinking out of his seething fury to give her bewildered look. "What is wrong with you?" he frowned. He flagged down a waiter. "Get a cup of water for the girl."
She spluttered a little longer in hot-faced mortification—and shoved the thought of ever telling Viago about her and Lucanis to the back of her mind. Not now, she told herself as she desperately gulped down the water the waiter brought. Definitely not now.
The hole Rook is digging herself into is a mile deep but it's still easier than facing Viago 🙃

“You open doors. You don’t close them” is such an important line to understand Lucanis and Rook relationship, because.
Whether you’re romancing him or not, slowly but surely, you’re making him lower the walls he raised around himself. Rook “Break apart [his] perfectly gathered clouds of doom.”
All the people we see as guardians are people he loves but who still make him feel inadequate, somehow (don’t make me start on his grandmother, Harding and Neve were really suspicious of him, Illario betrayed him).
Rook never does that. They’re always here for him, they support him, they got him out of the Ossurary, they helped with Treviso and they keep being by his side, again and again.
You don’t have to fight the guardians (because he would never perceive Rook as a danger). You barely have to convince them, because I think that deep down, Lucanis wants Rook to help him. He wants to grab the hand they’ve been offering him for so long, but he’s just afraid to do so.
In one of her tweets, Mary Kirby said that Spite and Lucanis trust Rook above everyone else. Inner Demons is a proof of that. He doesn't see them as someone keeping him locked inside his misery. He sees them as the person getting him out.
That’s why, even if I admit with shame that I’m a little jealous of hearing Neve and Lucanis flirting sometimes, I will never truly be mad. Because they’ll never have what Rook and Lucanis share. It’s such a unique and special bond that Lucanis only have with them, and I love it so, so much.
Rook: Yeah, but I'm definitely not as practiced as you or Neve.
Emmrich: I only ask as you seem to prefer to rely on bow and blade in battle, most mages rarely carry weapons outside of their mage knife.
Rook: All Crows are taught rogue skills, even the mages. I do rely on it more than most I guess, but that's only because I've had a couple of… less than ideal situations before.
Emmrich: May I ask what was your specialization?
Rook: Lightning. Way too flashy and bright for most assassination jobs, unfortunately.
Davrin: Don't let Lucanis hear you say that something is "too flashy", you'll crush his ego.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Taash: So… you can make lightning? Like, out of no where?
Rook: *laughing* You spit fire, I don't wanna hear it.
Davrin: Sometimes I think that I'm the only normal person on this team.
Rook: Your child is a previously extinct Griffon and you literally drank archdemon blood. Willingly.
Davrin: …Point taken.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Davrin: So, what was the "less than ideal situation" you mentioned before?
Rook: Tried to stun a guard wearing metal plate armor with a lightning charged arrow and nearly blew up half of a seaside villa.
Lucanis: That was you?
Rook: Maybe. Still finished the job though.
Davrin: Of course that's what you were concerned about.
Lucanis: A Crow never abandons their contract.
Rook: Exactly, the thousands of electrocuted fish were just an unfortunate side-effect.
Part three in which I just needed to get this cute little moment out of my head.
Part 1: Anything but Average
Part 2: Interest Demands Action
Character Daemon List
3. Too Many Cats
She honestly didn't know what she expected to walk into when she heard Davrin's slightly frustrated, but amused tone upon opening the kitchen door.
"Assan isn't a daemon, he's just Assan," the elf stood between two large, but very different cats. It was quite a sight honestly. Assan to his right, ears flopping as he studied Taash and the massive bird behind them. To his right stood Nessine, a tawny mountain lion who's expression mirrored the amusement of her human counterpart.
"You can tell me if you have two. I won't judge you, you know," This from Taash as they eyed the group of three with unsatiable curiosity. Aqun scratched at the ground in frustration when she noticed my presence, the cassowary was never one to hide her annoyances.
"Too many cats…" she muttered, one of her large talons poised to scratch into the kitchen floor again. The floors around the Lighthouse had become littered with these marks since the Taash and Aqun had joined. It actually amused Rook to think how annoyed Solas would be if he could see them.
"I don't have two. Assan is actually just Assan. You've seen him wander off on his own before," the griffon emphasized his point by running over to meet Mahvir as they walked to join the group. The cheetah was a frequent playmate for Assan, especially when Nessine tired of the rough-housing.
"Assan doesn't even talk, Taash, how would that work?", Rook let out a soft laugh. These were her favorite moments, when the team allowed themselves to be silly and human.
"I don't know, I mean Nessine barely talks so it would make sense."
Rook shrugged, "They've got a point Davrin."
"Don't encourage them," Nessine and Davrin answered in unity. Rook grinned. Mahvir and Assan were playing, Aqun was watching them critically, and Davrin, Taash, and Nessine were locked in on their friendly argument—no party willing to concede. These moments were definitely worth fighting gods for.
hopelessly charmed watching this exhausted man's fight against his unhinged little plus one result in his needing to lean on literally every available surface or otherwise bobblehead on his cot trying to stay awake. you're doing horribly, sweetheart 💕
Rook: Oh Spite… Thank you for checking on me. I'm okay, a lot has just been happening recently.
Lucanis (Spite): Rook is. Scared. Of Lucanis?
Rook: I'm not scare of Lucanis… I just don't want to hurt him.
Lucanis (Spite): Rook. Can not hurt. Rook heals.
Rook: Oh…
~~~~~~~~~~~
Lucanis: You seem distant. Is it something I've done?
Rook: No no, you haven't done anything.
Lucanis: Did Spite do something?
Rook: No, he's been uncharacteristically sweet actually.
Lucanis: Now I am really concerned.
Rook: I'm okay, really.
Lucanis: If you are sure.
~~~~~~~~~~
Neve: Dumat's Breath, just talk to each other all ready.
Rook: What?
Neve: Watching you both avoiding each other is maddening. How are we supposed to take down gods if you can't even manage to look each other in the eye?
Lucanis: We are not avoiding each other.
Rook: Neve…
Neve: I'm not arguing. Just be adults and go talk, it's not that hard. And don't give me any of the "Crows don't talk out their feelings" crap. I've met Teia and Viago, and they do nothing but talk about their feelings.
Lucanis: Teia and Viago should not be your standard for communication on any front.
Rook: I grew up with that man, so I'd have to agree with that.
Neve: Look, you're already agreeing on something. Was that so hard?
