So! This is a perfect case study in situations where you should be wary of misinformation.
Take a moment and ask yourself, a project like this requires a lot of time, money and dedication of resources, why would scientists dedicate that time to something that could just be done by a tree?
The answer is they wouldn't. So that means this claim requires further investigation!
This project is called LIQUID 3, and it's not meant for cities with wide open spaces, it's meant for cities like Belgrade in Serbia. These cities are densely populated and heavily polluted, to the point where pollution actually chokes out current trees and makes creating green spaces difficult.
Liquid 3 was a PhD scientists answer to these problems. The microalgae tank is intended for spaces where you either:
Don't have enough space to plant full trees, or
Don't have enough time to plant trees and wait for them to grow up.
The tank is extremely efficient when you consider the amount of space needed compared to the amount of CO2 turned into oxygen. The tank can operate throughout the winter. And most importantly, it can be quickly set up in areas that desperately need relief from air pollution NOW not in 10 years when trees are done growing. Children currently suffocating on polluted air can't wait for trees to grow, they need to be taken care of now, and Liquid 3 is one of the ways to take care of them. Depending on the species of microalgea used, a number have shown a pretty amazing capacity to pull heavy metals out of the air which is something trees can get choked up by.
The tanks aren't just tanks either! Liquid 3 have solar panels placed on top, they have lighting and mobile phone charging, and they work as public benches. The designers of it want to encourage green spaces where there's room, but where there isn't room or time, Liquid 3 can step in. Realistically, this isn't a replacement for trees. It's replacing boring metal city benches with new, cooler benches that also clean the air (and have at least some heating during the winter).
Not only that, but the microalgea that grows is native to Serbia and all that microalgea has a ton of great uses! It makes for great fertilizer, compost, wastewater treatment, cleaner biofuels and even for helping create new tanks for further air purification. They only require a quick algae divide once a month, and the produced algae can be carted off to where ever it's needed. This makes them effective solutions for areas that can't sustain complex installations.
So yeah, there's actually quite a lot of places that would like these. Lots of people currently breathing in terrible quality air would much rather have their boring city benches replaced with really fucking cool algae tanks that clean the air and can be used to help create + sustain future green spaces in cities. I dunno about you, but I'd take that over a dumb metal bench any day. Put these at every bus stop and I'd be delighted.
can ppl pls reblog this version
Well damn. I was also like wtf is this stupid slime tank and then I read the rest and my mind got blown
Amen
I still hope and pray that justice will be served. "The mills of god grind slowly, but they grind exceedingly small". Here's hoping every single one of those fuckers gets ground into DUST.
Legal experts say employers must take AI-related religious objections seriously, as a 2023 ruling raised the bar for denying such accommodat
"The funniest possible outcome of the AI mandate era is about to be HR departments discovering that 'sincerely held religious belief' under Title VII has a much lower bar than they assumed, and Pope Leo handed every Catholic employee a written excuse," wrote Corey Quinn, a software-startup founder in San Francisco, on X.
Employers could wind up in court if they outright dismiss workers who request a faith-based exemption from using AI, said Ashley Herd, a former McKinsey counsel and head of North American HR who now advises managers and employers on workplace issues.
"Playing priest, and telling employees their request isn't legitimate, does not tend to bode well for companies," said Herd, also a cohost of the "HR Besties" podcast. "A jury doesn't like it when employees get made fun of by managers or HR."

You know the parable about how the foolish man built his house upon sand and the wise man built his house upon rock and it’s always about having a sturdy foundation well there is also the fact of location which is that the sand probably used to be rock except it’s been eroded to sediment because it’s a FUCKING FLOODPLAIN

With news of the death of Paramount+ as they prepare to merge it with all of the mergers they've merged with, let's reflect on its legacy:
It wasn't very good
Remembering when CBS All Access launched and besides Star Trek Disco it only had a random assortment of CBS shows they still owned the rights to, and I opened one soap opera and it immediately tried to load a list of thousands of episodes at once and it crashed the app
Paramount+ had it all. Did it work? No. Did it have a wide library of content? No. Did it feature all of Star Trek, its explicit and only reason for existing? Well they sold off one show to another service, and would sometimes remove episodes for no reason, and never had all the movies at the same time, but,
Paramount+ using AI to generate the rest of a photo of Captain Kirk bc the Star Trek company neither has access to photos of William Shatner playing Captain Kirk or knowledge of what he looks like. Nobody was doing it like them

Attack of the Clones time!
I like this one more every time I rewatch it, not because it's perfect or anything but because it has many of the best memes in it
The Anakin/Padme romance has major Twilight vibes. Edward would fall to the dark side over Bella that's for sure
I wonder if Elan Sleazebaggano ever did turn his life around after that chance encounter with Obi-Wan. I'd like to think he did
Hey! Dex! He was in the book I just read. How delightful!
Make fun of it all you want but Anakin's sentiments re: sand are so legit. As someone who lived in sand central for a few years... yeah. Yeah
Okay but Anakin and Padme standing where Luke will stand one day, while the force theme plays... augh. Cinema.
When you first hear about "The Clone Wars" in A New Hope, it sounds like something akin to Blade Runner, as if perhaps the war was fought for or against them. But no, it's called the clone wars because there were clones there, and no other reason. It's like calling chess the pawn wars. I've always found it somewhat stupid and misleading lol
Idk if I've ever mentioned this but I love the B1 droids. They're adorable. I want them to have financial compensation and healthcare. And a union
Christopher Lee really elevated any movie he was in. Effortlessly gives star wars more gravitas than it frankly deserves, making him a formidable enemy on the same level as Palpatine himself. I love that
