Resulting Aftershocks IV
The trip into town was kept as short as possible. The bank was the drive window instead of going inside. An emergency shopping trip was invading the small variety store for dog food and a new set of food and water dishes. A few snack type things made their way into the cart too before she made it to the checkout line.
Lou sat in the passenger seat of the jeep with his nose shoved through the opening at the top. He huffed has the bags were loaded into the back. He was headed back to the nice lady's house. Where he knew there was a bed of his own, treats, food, and all the cuddles he could ever want.
When the pair got back to the house Lou raced for the door as Ronnie collected the bags. She found Lou prancing around a brown plain box by the door. Everything was dropped in the kitchen before collecting the box.
It was medium-ish in size. Her brow furrowed. She wasn't expecting a delivery. Not that this came through the post. There were no postage labels or stamps. Just her name in black block letters across the top of the box.
She was standing at the table staring at the box as Lou raced back into the kitchen. He sat down at her feet and looked up at her. Apparently she was taking too long to set up the bowls...he barked and nosed at the bag on the chair. Ronnie laughed. Right. Bowls were washed and filled and put down. Her new companion stood in front of the water dish slopping all over the floor.
A knife was taken to the tape on the box. Ronnie gasped as she started to pull items out into the open. A leash and collar, the same designs that Lou had been wearing that day albeit in different colours. A bag of treats with a note attached reading "Good boy." The last few items were left in the box An exact copy of her outfit from that day, right down to the pattern and colour of the plaid. A tear fell onto the flap of the box. She wasn't sure she'd ever be able to wear them, though the gesture was very appreciated.
She was deal with the contents later. Ronnie followed Lou to the bedroom where she let him up on the bed. He sprawled out next to her. For the first time in the last month Ronnie felt at peace as she hugged Lou close.
