normally my thoughts about hitori's career are just :) math quail :) because math is cool and i love that hitori is so smart. But I just made myself very sad about it because...

Hitori is FAMOUS as a mathematician, under *Nanaki's* name. You could, in universe, google Kazuaki Nanaki and find a list of HITORI'S achievements.

No one cared when "Nanaki" changed his major, no one thought it strange how quickly he was able to make a name for himself in a new field, as though he had been studying it all his life.

Hitori didn't even have to keep a low profile to hide his identity. Kazuaki all but faded from existence the second Hitori let go of his wing and took his name.

"Kazuaki Nanaki" would not be a hard name to look up. But nowhere on that extensive list of awards would be a simple school-wide poetry contest. Why would it be? But that's the only achievement the real Kazuaki had to his name

I remember being confused that he was a famous mathematician at age 25 because irl a 25yo would be a grad student, not a professor + also that he's a 'famous mathematician' but teaching at a high school. maybe academic standards are different for birds bc of the shorter lifespan? but then that means they would have to learn all the math to become mathematicians much faster, so maybe birds are smarter than humans in this universe. hatoful boyfriend didn't do that much worldbuilding on academia and higher education in the hatoful boyfriend universe, but it does say that college exists (since kazuaki was trying to get into college). Maybe undergrad and grad school are like, combined, and prestigious high schools are also considered research institutions (like how a famous doctor is the school doctor there because he's doing terrible illegal research). Or his fame is more for him as an educator (despite falling asleep during all his lectures -- he was a good tutor in the backstory though)?

I might be missing the point of the original post but I feel like I just always personally ignored or blocked out the whole "famous mathematician" part of his character from my mind because it didn't make sense to me with the above...
