There's No Place Like Home

It's been twelve tide-turns since Elphaba last saw home.

She is tired, frustrated by her lack of progress and sometimes, dare she say it, lonely.

A tiny article from Munchkinland gives her a spark of hope- enough for her to risk returning to her homeland. Not for the place itself, but for her sister. For someone who knows her.

Because sometimes home isn't a place, it's a feeling.

This is basically what I thought "There's No Place Like Home" was going to be vibe-wise before I saw the film.

So, it's been a minute.

Honestly, I haven't written much in months. Other than Trope & Error in September 2025, I haven't been able to get anything done.

I have started a lot.

I have had many ideas.

But everything stalls a few paragraphs in and I think "I'll come back to that" and then... never do. And this is why I don't post anything before it's finished.

Life has been a lot and I've just... shut down, it feels like.

Life is... well, still shit tbh and is still a lot. But I'm now trying to move from shutting down to sparking something. Key word, trying.

Anyway, the point is this: I had an idea that it might be easier for my brain to actually do something if I wasn't writing something... but rather re-writing.

When I moved all my fics from FF.net to Ao3 a few years ago, the struggle to not re-write everything that made me cringe was real.

So, I am considering giving one of my early fics a "glow up" (as the kids say... right?).

I'm talking the fics I wrote my first year-ish in the Wicked fandom:

Everything from Ever Ever After in October 2010, to One Night With the King that was posted in that period of time between 2011-2012 when time isn't real- the dot above the i in "Jeremy Bearimy", as it were. (iykyk)

But I don't want to do this if no-one wants to read it. So! I would love if you would take a minute and fill out this handy Google form to help me decide which fic- if any- deserves a bit of a makeover.

The OG version would remain on FF.net and Ao3 as is. The glow up version would be posted separately.

I was Reading your "Life's Epochs" story "Until the End of Time" and I have to know what was the inspiration behind Pinar❓

What made you decide to create an Original Character as Elphaba's Roommate as opposed to just having her room with Galinda from the very beginning and possibly using one of Glin's Friends in place of Pinar?

Was it because of "Certain Things" 🤔 that happen later in the Story❓

It was two fold, really. The first was that, yes- "certain things" do happen later on. And I just couldn't see Galinda being that bad.

The second was just... canon. Galinda has a private suite. She only ended up rooming with Elphaba in the show because Frex hadn't bothered to tell the school that she was attending alongside Nessa, and so Galinda "volunteered".

In the Life's Epochs universe, that didn't make any sense. Frex gave a damn, which means there'd be a dorm room allocated to Elphaba. I still could have gone the "oops, paperwork error" route to make her room with Galinda, sure. But it's also a much nicer character growth moment for Galinda to invite Elphaba to be her roommate later on. And we stan personal growth.

Majoring in creative writing was a colossal mistake that ruined my life financially artistically socially and spiritually BUT i got to read aloud from My Immortal to a crowd of twenty horrified bystanders for academic credit. So I broke even

The assignment was to bring a story written by someone else and share the first paragraph with the class. Nowhere in the assignment description or the syllabus did it specify that the story had to be good

so my body deals with grief and stress by just making all my joints hurt. It's a fun time. Caught myself singing a little song inside my head while walking into work this morning- "everything hurts, everything's painful" but sung to the tune of Dancing Through Life.
