I’ve been thinking about this recently too. It’d force the athletes to be paced a lot slower in their careers if they ever want to be world champions or make it to an Olympics (considering how many retire by 18 or earlier) and although there’d probably be a decline in the difficulty of skills (considering a lot of the harder ones are performed by the younger athletes) I think it’d be better for the sport in general

Welp, the UEG was having serious discussions about how they wanted to lower the age from 16, so I don’t think that’s going to be happening any time soon.

The problem is that with gymnastics, you still have to start young if you want to be good at it. Whether the age to compete is sixteen or eighteen, basically if you’re not in gymnastics by the age of about six or seven, you’re not going to get to the same level as the elites we see at the moment, and I think the root of the problem is there rather than in people flinging Amanars at age 12 etc. 

Personally I think we should have more objective inspections of training centres, more resources for the athletes, and we should all try to create an environment where athletes feel safe and comfortable about voicing their opinions.

Honestly we all thought Doha would be a repeat of Montrehell and WAG did suck, but we should still be happy because there was only 1 injury (please get better Andrey Medvedev and fuck Taishan) compared to the 10 billion in Montrehell and MAG was lit and Tingting became beam world champion. :)

Ugh now I’m thinking about the stupid vault code and about how people can and do medal on vault with a fall and they’re not even wildly dominant and the greatest of all time on the event like all you gotta do to medal on vault with a fall is do hard vaults and be really good but for the rest of the events if you’re gonna medal with a fall you’ve gotta be so absurdly dominant and I don’t know how to fix the vault problem but it’s a problem like vault scores in general are a problem owing to the fact that it’s just 1 (or in the case of finals 2) elements instead of 8+ and the FIG obviously doesn’t care but I wish they did

Right? I’d be interested to see what the worst vault E score has been so far this CoP. I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything lower than a 7, and that would be the shittiest trashiest vault to ever not score a zero. Whereas a beam routine like Golgota’s in AA finals here, which was shaky and wobbly but largely successful in that she did her skills and didn’t fall, got around a 6.5 E score. You can basically crap up your vault ENTIRELY and as long as you land feet first and it’s vaguely recognisable as the vault you were aiming for, you’re going to get a reasonable score compared to the other apparatus. It’s ridiculous to judge what is essentially one skill the same way that you judge a whole routine.
