Grace and Rocky saving Simon, bringing him aboard the Hail Mary on their way to Erid.

He's suspicious, closed off, confused, and angry during a lot of the journey

But then, Ryland accidentally falls asleep near him, and something about that level of trust shifts something in him, and Simon does not take it for granted, going into guard dog mode whenever it happens again

Rocky is still trying to get a feel for this new guy, but it helps that he knows to watch out for Grace in his sleep, so, he guesses that he can't be all that bad

i want that for bloodymary except not because Simon has never seen a sun before.

he's rescued by Rocky and Grace before he ever set eyes on one

i want weeks to pass before they're anywhere close to a star (and the screens chamber or whatever it was called to no longer be functionnal at that point for plot purpose)

i want Simon to have his first look at a close-up star, at what will be the sun for the rest of his life, weeks after he first met Grace and fell so easily in his orbit.

i want Simon to look at the sun for the first time and for the only thought filling his mind to be 'oh. so that's what a sun is. the sun's just as bright as Grace.'

More little bloodymary things:

- Grace vlogging: "We're monitoring the new humanoid alien to see if they wake up...it'll be difficult having to add yet another alien language to the translator but-"

Simon, in the medbay: "FUCK!"

Grace: "...okay nevermind?"

- Simon stumbling around the Mary confused and aggressive with Grace and Rocky chasing after him but then he sees the viewport full of stars and just. Freezes up.

- Grace introducing Simon to the "don't go crazy room" with all the scenes of earth.

Simon: "...do you have...trees on here?"

Grace: "Sure, what kind?"

Simon, shellshocked: "H-how many do you have?"

Cue Grace in teacher mode going through every tree-based biome on earth and Simon just wide-eyed absorbing everything.

- Simon is skeptical that he'll ever get to earth. Grace is reassuring him up until they figure out they have to go back and save Rocky. Simon lets out 1(one) big scream before plopping himself in the cockpit like "Alright, fuck it, point me there."

- Simon stepping onto an actual planet for the first time. And it's not earth but still. A planet. Full of life. With a sun. Wow.

"Grace I can live without ever going to earth if it means i never have to get in a damn spaceship or submarine or whatever ever again."

Grace, who is known only by his last name. Who has only been called Grace, Mr. Grace, Dr. Grace by everyone around him for years. Who only heard his first name in passing, during introductions, when he was working back on Earth. Who is called Grace by the Eridians but when any of them other than Rocky say it, he can just hear the emphasis. The awe. It's no longer a name, it's become a title. Grace, who hasn't been called by his first name in years, perhaps since his parents died.

And Simon, who values his own name. Who values the identity it gives him. Who hates being called by some moniker, to be dismissed as just some convict, just another meaningless body to be used and discarded.

Simon, who makes a point to always call him Ryland.

Can you imagine streamer Simon and science teacher Grace? Grace’s students don’t know that they’re dating or live together so Grace often hears his students talk about Simon and what games they really want him to play live (and if Grace suggests them to Simon and Simon plays them then he’s not gonna tell his students. He feels like a spy)

Cut to, one night, Simon’s streaming and he looks to his left to see Grace bringing him some water and food and Simon gets this lovesick look on his face and says “thanks Star.” And the chat are going crazy because “Simon has a partner?!” They hear a man softly telling Simon that he’s welcome and asking what time he’s finishing streaming so he can finish his marking before then so they can actually spend some time together (Grace watches Simon’s streams whilst he’s working on lesson planning and stuff)

Simon mumbles something about another hour then he’s “all yours” and Simon goes off screen a bit to kiss Grace as Grace doesn’t like being on camera. What Grace doesn’t know is that some people in chat saw his fox cardigan (like the front bit). Grace leaves the room and chat is going crazy speculating who it could be.

The next day, Grace makes the mistake of wearing his fox cardigan to class because his students who watched the stream last night are freaking out.

"problematic" age gap bloodymary. simon is the younger one. grace does NOT know this until they've been together for a few months and rocky asks when simon's birthday is. simon says 'yeah i'll be 28 in... like 2 months? idk time is weird here' and grace is like '28? two eight? twenty eight? fudge i'm a cradle robber. whats the male equivalent of a cougar?' and he's freaking out and rocky is laughing.
