I like to think that Arbok's hood patterns are influenced by their environment. When they evolve, they can take on the markings of their parent, or maybe they take after the trainer who raised them (who may or may not have an intimidating look to them)

You know the hair Tails has on his forehead? For each of his counterparts, where their hair is pointing is symbolic of how much they care about those around them.

Tails and Sails’s hair points outwards, away from them. Mangey’s hair is just spiked up because he’s mostly neutral and his behavior/mindset is similar to that of a little kids.

Nine’s hair used to face outwards like Tails’s and Sails’s, but the longer he was bullied, he stopped caring about others and his hair changed to face more towards him.

Very interesting observation, I never would've thought of it like that.

Their hair styles reflect their personality and aesthetic and are designed accordingly. That they are also reflecting how their socialization is a pretty cool bonus
