This is why I will never again like Scott or Allison. Don't get me wrong, I've read some good fic where I don't mind their presence and sometimes even enjoy them in the story, but that's because the writers of said fic basically overhaul their entire characters. Which is fine, if done well! OOC in the best way, you know?
Because this scene right here? Happens the same. fucking. night. as all of this:
Yeah. Even if it is two episodes, "Battlefield" and "Master Plan" are all one continuous night.
See, I enjoy a good morally grey/complex/flat-out bad character. Even if I dislike the character, I can enjoy them as a character because they're fun to look at and examine and dissect. But what irritates the everloving shit out of me about these two is that there are no consequences for them for this shit, ever.
All the other characters make some messed up decisions, and those choices, right or wrong, have consequences. Stiles chooses to lie to his dad, and their relationship is in complete shambles, hell, the Sheriff nearly loses his job. Derek is too hard on his Betas, and they run away from his pack. But these two do some fucked up shit, and NOTHING. Allison leaves with Chris for the summer, and when they come back, not a goddamn thing happens. Her and Derek have a single small exchange and she's still all fucking self-righteous about what she did. "My mom died." Bitch, your mother killed herself, with help from your father, according to your family's code! All Derek did was unintentionally bite Victoria whilst, oh yeah, saving your boyfriend. And even so, that has fuckall to do with Erica and Boyd, whom you nearly killed when they were running away and then turned over to be tortured in your house, or with Isaac, who you stabbed halfway to death when he's trying to stop the giant murder lizard.
We never even see her with Boyd! She never has to deal with that. Derek is one thing, he's older and they don't need to interact unless it's intentionally, but Boyd goes to school with her. They have at least some classes together. Derek is easy to avoid, but imagine also being on the shit list of a 6'3", built-like-a-brick-shithouse, member-of-the-JROTC werewolf who you are going to see five days out of seven. She even ends up with Isaac for a while! (IK Crystal and Daniel were dating IRL at the time but it's still a bad character choice.)
Also if "my mom died" is an excuse for you to do that shit, Derek would be justified in killing every single Argent in Beacon Hills. If you wanna be even-steven about it? Ten Hales died in the fire (originally 11, but I'm subtracting Cora), so even with all of you dead (Kate, Gerard, Chris, Victoria, Allison), he'd still be owed five more lives. So how about drinking a nice tall glass of shut the fuck up?
And Scott. Scott, buddy. You fucking suck right now. He's been an inconsistent friend this entire season, hanging up on Stiles or just flat ignoring him, not to mention the bullshit he pulled in S1 with Lydia. Even if I personally think Stydia is a garbage ship, in the context of their friendship, that was a shitty, shitty thing to do. Absolutely against Bro Code. If Stiles ever tried that with Allison, Scott would've thrown the mother of all fits. He tossed Isaac around just for wanting to kiss Allison. Speaking of being tossed around, I've touched on Stiles’s injuries before. Imagine seeing your friend looking like that (when he should look So Much Worse) and saying absolutely zip about it? I think we get one throwaway sentence and that's it. That's it??? Are you fucking for real? Even if a hypothetical conversation happened off-screen, it doesn't count because we don't see it. It's Schrodinger's canon. You can't prove it didn't happen, but you also can't say it did. Stiles walked around like this
and got no response from his best friend. Yeah, I'd go hang out with Derek and solve a missing person's case too.
Sure, sure, you can argue that Scott faced some degree of backlash when Melissa found out about the lycanthropy, but that lasted for what? Half an episode? And then she's forgiving him and telling him to do whatever he has to. I wouldn't call that very impactful, y'know? And after all this bloody, violent, backstabbing, underhanded BULLSHIT, we are given THAT. They kiss and make up the same goddamn night. A single fucking scene later.
So at the end of the season after fucking shit up, down, and sideways for literally everyone else besides himself, Scott still has his mom, his "friend," and his girl, and at the start of 3A, there is basically zero confrontation with Derek even though he's the one who got fucked over hardest.
The Conses do not be Quencing, my guy.
