the reason men are getting more conservative is very simply that as a class, as a socioeconomic group, their power is being threatened by womens civil rights. its the same reason for the broad surge in right wing politics. its called a backlash and its also why most civil war monuments are from the era of the black civil rights movement and not actually from the civil war.
luv how male animals gotta fucking dance around and cry and shit for female attention and sex. and then men irl complain about fat women and body hair like get on ur fucking knees and beg me actually
like these tarantulas dude?? the male has to tap out a rhythm she likes and if she doesnāt?? sheāll literally eat him.
Alpha males: "This is nature. You don't see animals acting like queers don't you?"
90% of nature documentaries: "Until now the female has been very impressed by the males drag performance of Orwell's Homage To Catalonia, soundtracked exclusively by Maria Carey songs. A demanding performance like that knows to impress. But... Oh No... One note in the final tune was one cent flat. It doesn't look good for the male now. She is ordering an orbital laser strike to burn his beautifully groomed plumage from space. It will take all year to regrow, effectively ending this one's mating season early. Better luck next time, little guy. Women are a tough audience."

"i dont think thats true" powerful ward against Posts
We don't talk enough about America's permanent ongoing saturation of "Stranger Danger" hysteria. It's like this country's whole social ecosystem teaches full grown adults to perceive an invisible army of rabid bogeymen lurking around every fucking corner. And it's everywhere. Absolutely fucking everywhere, top to bottom, from true crime media and urban legends like the old Poison Halloween Candy thing to our sadistically rage-fueled, revenge-based justice system and immigration policies. The NRA and the war on drugs and post 9/11 airport security and mccarthyism and satanic panic and just E V E R Y T H I N G in America, everything that has defined its history for 100+ years is constantly nothing but this fucking FEAR TERROR FEAR TERROR for positively no reason. None.
Reasons I have found strangers in my yard at night (I'm not American):
Homeless woman, after a backyard party, starving and looking for any food we might've forgotten to take inside. We gave her some food.
Drunk man at wrong house. Not aggressive, just confused.
Lost guy trying to find the house of a family member he was supposed to be staying with. He was a few houses down.
Man with four tiny kittens who had escaped into my yard. He'd knocked on my door but I hadn't heard him. Couldn't leave the kittens in a stranger's yard all night so he slipped through the side gate to look for them. I helped him and we found the kittens. The idea of responding to strangers at your house with gunfire is bonkers.
I feel like a lot of Gen Z don't know that the ACA/Obamacare was the compromise.
The Democrats wanted Medicare for All. The Republicans wanted Free Market Healthcare (aka poor people die). Obama took a plan initially conceived by the Heritage Foundation (those project 2025 fuckers) and implemented by Romney for Massachusetts to say "hey, you can have a little free market, but we gotta cover other people too".
It was already a compromise. And the Republicans lost their shit and have proceeded to spend fifteen years crying about their own plan being rampant socialism and repeatedly trying to repeal it despite never actually having a back-up plan for healthcare, simply because they never really wanted compromise to begin with. The moment Obama got elected, they got into a meeting and vowed to tear down everything he tried to build no matter how much it agreed with their so-called values. Because racism, let's be honest, but also because any compromise they put forward is just a show.
"Meet me in the middle, says the unjust man" isn't just a hypothetical. It's literally what happened when we tried to meet Republicans in the middle with healthcare.
Iāve noticed some posts around about how you canāt romanticize your life during a fascist regime and while I deeply sympathize with this sentiment, I want you to try to understand thatās what they want you to believe.
Fascism thrives best in the cesspool of hopelessness. They want us so confused and hopeless that we give in. When you give in, you donāt fight back.
If you wait for life to look good to do the things that bring you joy; life will still be bad - you will just have less joy.
As someone who has struggled with my mental health a lot for the last thirty years, I know this struggle firsthand. And changing this belief system - the one where you spend all of your time expecting bad things so you wonāt be surprised when they happen - itās the hardest work that I have ever done. And Iām not perfect; I still have setbacks. I still experience really real fears about the state of the world and the US, in particular, because thatās where I live.
But I made a vow to myself that I will not let the choices of others ruin my life. When I made that vow, I was thinking of my parents - but it applies to the state of the government right now, too.
There are still flowers in my garden, and ripe tomatoes, and itās almost pick-your-own apples season, and I have plans with my friends to go to as many cemetery ghost walks as we can find this October.
I still deserve to live. I still deserve to laugh. I still deserve to love. I still deserve to be as happy as I can be.
And you do, too.
Dan Savage.
can anyone find me that mesopotamian clay tablet telling you to marry a party girl because she'll bring you joy
It's from the "Maxims of Ptahhotep", purportedly written by a 96-year-old vizier to pass on his wisdom to his son:
If you marry a good-time girl
A joyful woman known to her town,
If she is wayward,
and revels in the moment,
do not reject her, but instead let her enjoy;
joyfulness is what marks calm water.
yay ty. Between the above and the links in the mentions we have 3 translations total

Other sites also have the "Does anyone have this image?" posts, but only on tumblr you'll find "Does anyone have that mesopotamien clay tablet?" posts.
I do have a piece of writing advice, actually.
See, the first time I grew parsnips, I fucked it up good. I hadn't seen parsnips sprouting before, right, and in my eagerness I was keeping a close eye on the row. And every time I saw some intruding grass coming up, I twitched it right out, and went back to anticipating the germination of my parsnips.
But it turns out parsnips take a bit longer than anything else I'd ever grown to distinguish themselves visually. It's just the two little split leaves, almost identical to a newly seeded bit of kentucky bluegrass when they first come up, and they take a good bit to establish themselves and spread out flat before the main stem with its first distinctive scallopy leaf gets going.
I didn't get any parsnips, not that year, because I'd weeded them all out as soon as they showed their faces, with my 'ugh no that's grass' twitchy horticulture finger.
The next year, having in retrospect come to suspect what had happened, I left the row alone and didn't weed anything until all the sprouts coming up had all had a bit to set in and show their colors, and I've grown lots of parsnips since. They're kind of a slow crop, not a huge return, but I like them and watching them grow and digging them up, and their papery little seeds in the second year, if you don't harvest one either on purpose or because you misjudged the frost, so it's worth it.
Anyway, whenever I see someone stuck and struggling with their writing who's gotten into that frustration loop of typing a few words, rejecting them, backspacing, and starting again, I find myself thinking, you gotta stop weeding your parsnips, man.

How do they keep making later and later stages of late-capitalism
through innovative, synergistic solutions that align strategic stakeholders along key performance indicators
fun fact: there are quite a few academics and scholars nowadays who argue that we are no longer in the late stages of capitalism, but in fact the early stages of something completely different. david graeber puts it thus:
Any number of names have been coined to describe the new dispensation, from the "democratization of finance" to the "financialization of everyday life." Outside the United States, it came to be known as "neoliberalism." As an ideology, it meant that not just the market, but capitalism (I must continually remind the reader that these are not the same thing) became the organizing principle of almost everything. We were all to think of ourselves as tiny corporations, organized around that same relationship of investor and executive: between the cold, calculating math of the banker, and the warrior who, indebted, has abandoned any sense of personal honor and turned himself into a kind of disgraced machine.
varoufakis calls this new era "technofeudalism", and in his book of the same name he describes it this way:
So, what is my hypothesis? It is that capitalism is now dead, in the sense that its dynamics no longer govern our economies. In that role it has been replaced by something fundamentally different, which I call technofeudalism. At the heart of my thesis is an irony that may sound confusing at first but which I hope to show makes perfect sense: the thing that has killed capitalism is ⦠capital itself. Not capital as we have known it since the dawn of the industrial era, but a new form of capital, a mutation of it that has arisen in the last two decades, so much more powerful than its predecessor that like a stupid, overzealous virus it has killed off its host. [...] Markets, the medium of capitalism, have been replaced by digital trading platforms which look like, but are not, markets, and are better understood as fiefdoms. And profit, the engine of capitalism, has been replaced with its feudal predecessor: rent. Specifically, it is a form of rent that must be paid for access to those platforms and to the cloud more broadly. I call it cloud-rent. As a result, real power today resides not with the owners of traditional capital, such as machinery, buildings, railway and phone networks, industrial robots. They continue to extract profits from workers, from waged labour, but they are not in charge as they once were. As we shall see, they have become vassals in relation to a new class of feudal overlord, the owners of cloud capital. As for the rest of us, we have returned to our former status as serfs, contributing to the wealth and power of the new ruling class with our unpaid labour ā in addition to the waged labour we perform, when we get the chance.
so, to put it another way: perhaps we are no longer in the later stages of capitalism, a system whose defining feature is that power belongs to those who own the means of production and can therefore profit off the labor of people they hire to work their machines and factories - but rather in the early stages of an entirely new hegemony, characterized by the fact that power is largely held by feudal overlords who have claimed dominion over specific segments of daily life through technology.
for example, under varoufakis' view, platforms like Amazon or Etsy aren't really markets in the traditional capitalist sense; they're more akin to fiefdoms, where everyone who wants to participate must do so subject to the whims and desires of the overlord, who takes a cut of everything and carefully controls what people are allowed to buy, sell, or even be shown. these corporations don't just make money by taking a cut of a worker's paid labor; they make money by charging rent for any activity that takes place within their domain. sure, your employer siphons off some of the profits you generate when you work your job - but both you and your employer are also constantly paying rent, paying tribute, to Amazon Web Services to be able to host a website, to Google for advertising, to PayPal every time you make a transfer with a surcharge... thus these companies are primarily characterized by their ownership of specific domains of everyday life, rather than by their ability to profit from what their workers sell and produce.
this is obviously not the only way to understand our current economic and political climate, just one particular lens through which to view it, but. food for thought!
I honestly feel like the proliferation of LED headlights was the canary in the coalmine for the general attitude we see in the political climate these days and i'm not even remotely kidding
Very much in line with the attitude of "this choice will marginally improve the way I move through the world and make everyone else's experience SIGNIFICANTLY worse, but I don't really care, based simply on the fact that I am allowed to do it and there's nothing they can or will do to stop me" ya feel me?
i was waiting in an auto shop during the first trump administration when an older lady came in and nervously asked about getting her headlights upgraded. her eye doctor said she should have brighter lights when driving at night, but she was very concerned about blinding oncoming traffic. she wanted to know what the safe mid-range was thatās brighter than what she had but wouldnāt cause accidents or problems for other drivers.
the guy told her theyād put in their brightest lights that would be amazing for her vision. this poor woman kept trying to rephrase to get him to understand her question. āi donāt want to look like iām driving with my brights on.ā and he said, āif someone flashes their lights at you, you just turn on your actual brights and thatāll teach them.ā
like he literally could not understand that she was worried about other people, or about creating a generally safe driving environment. the only problem with LED lights is that itās annoying for you when other dumbass drivers flash their lights at you, and thatās okay because you can punish them for it.
Guys Iām going to make a hot take
The whole āI wish I could be with a woman, but instead Iām stuck with my stupid, gross husband/boyfriendā sentiment I see repeated in bi circles is just the āprogressiveā queer version of the boomer āI hate my wifeā jokes
if heās stupid and gross you should leave him and if he isnāt youāre just being cruel for internet points and he should leave you
the social norm of āits your ethical responsibility to be constantly aware of, and angry about, every bad thing happening in the world at all times, even if you canāt possibly do anything about itā is possibly the best way I can imagine to create burnout and cynicism and depression in a population, so good job guys
Computers are very simple you see we take the hearts of dead stars and we flatten them into crystal chips and then we etch tiny pathways using concentrated light into the dead star crystal chips and if we etch the pathways just so we can trick the crystals into doing our thinking for us hope this clears things up.
How does it feel to be the most Galaxy Brained person in this entire thread
Well that certainly belongs on the post
why would this distress you friend the dead star crystal chips are just singing to each other with invisible ripples in the fabric of reality itself perfectly normal stuff
the lesson I'm taking away from this election is not that the Democrats need to become more left wing or more right wing but moreso that they need to find a way to cater their rhetoric towards people who genuinly have no idea what is going on. the target audience for every speech and political appearance should be someone who doesn't know what the three branches of government are because they were drawing a Cool S during high school civics
political scientists have failed to consider the possibility that the silent majority is silent because they didn't understand the question and are trying to play it cool
"the world isn't kind" ok??? Much more importantly are you?????
"the world isnt kind" skill issue. I am
