HYPNO5E?? IN MY OCEAN??? IT'S MORE FUCKIN LIKELY THAN I THINK HOLY SHIT
text: [ “Some of you have forgotten that only three years ago you were perfectly capable of writing an essay, writing a eulogy, telling a bedtime story to a child, and it should worry you that powerful companies have convinced us we can’t do things we’ve been doing for 5000 years.” ]
And they're absolutely specifically pushing it, make no mistake. It's not just a matter of "it's there, it's convenient, so people are going to take the path of the least resistance", it is a legitimate and concerted effort on the part of these companies to get people to outsource all these things to their models.
They're preying on insecurities to do it. Yes, you can write an essay - but can you write a good essay, they ask you. Do you not want to improve your output? Do you not want people to think of you as competent and very clever? Why go through the mortifying process of failing and failing and failing until you succeed if you can just skip the "learning" part of doing, and simply generate a ready-made product?
I'm preaching to the choir here obviously but it's a concerning thing to witness nonetheless. My kid is 6 next week and I've been teaching her that failing at things is morally neutral and in fact necessary even before the advent of AI, but it's becoming ever more important that we teach the kids that criticism and failure and discomfort aren't necessarily bad things, but just a part of the growth process.
AI companies are heavily invested in making themselves relevant. They want people to believe they can't do the things they have done unaided before and to make them become reliant on the AI models, so the AI models' existence is artificially justified.
New track, new music video, new line up!!! Can't wait for the album drop.
Also, the new vocals are so, so cool. Still gonna miss Loïc but with Black Idol's EP, I trust we'll still hear him in some good shit.

San Lazaro is On The Air!
The Season 0 Premiere begins now! Its first of three episodes "Patience: Zero" is out wherever you get the rest of your weird little fiction podcasts, and the second and third epidodes ("RE: FWD: The End Times" and "You Can Sleep When You're Dead") will be dropping in about 12 and 24 hours, respectively.
It takes place a year and a half before Season 1, and centers around the question "At what point during the end of the world will your boss tell you that you don't have to go to work anymore?" Overall I think it explores the upper and lower bounds of intensity for what will be found throughout the rest of the series.
Be advised of strong language, corporate bullshit from an insensitive manager, and of course zombies. Especially in the third episode (which is probably predictable enough it doesn't count as a spoiler, right?).
Season 0 features the voice talents of (in order of appearance) Alex Povey, Lea Lawson, Matt Bartlett, Bella Garcia, Jason Francey, Rae Lundberg, Sparrow Delgado, Jesse May, and Alex Chew; and lots of behind-the-scenes effort and expertise from Ani Engdahl, James Edwards, Eva J Hansen-Smith, Chloe Briggs, Ani Rey, and Haven Gay (that's me!).
For your enjoyment,
And now for part 2 of 3!
It's very fun releasing them all close together like this and getting everyone involved extra excited by making it An Event. 12 hours was about as close together as I was willing to go so as to try and avoid problems in the RSS feed – but we felt that since Season 0 is so short overall, it made sense to put it all out at once, relatively speaking.
I am so thrilled about how it turned out. Episode 2 started out as the weakest of Season 0, but the addition of a few scenes really made it shine. I'm so grateful to everyone involved for truly understanding (and often improving) the vision of this show.
It really is an example of just how good a volunteer project can be if everyone likes the concept, believes in the mission, and shows up with the skills to make something amazing.
And now the finale!
You can now listen to the full beginning, middle, and end of a zombie apocalypse show without even leaving this post! I mean, it will still take you an hour though, so... you can multitask.
I want to give a special shoutout to our sound folks on this episode, and a listener warning packaged with it. Ani E, with James' help, really took this episode beyond what we imagined – when Ani Rey and I first listened to the design of the instense scene that's flagged in the episode notes, we just sat in stunned silence for a few minutes. When writing episode 3, we had just expected a quick scream and a cutoff at that part. What they'd made with what Eva and the VA had provided (plus a certain sfx clip) was viscerally disturbing in such a masterful way that we couldn't not include it in the final cut.
And that's far from the only case of someone catching the vision of this project and delivering more than I imagined of it. Eva, our acting director, provided so much skill and professionalism to recording sessions and helped our VAs deliver amazing performances. Chloe, our production manager, did more behind the scenes stuff than I can count, and you'd probably be reading this in January of next year if not for her.
I can't wait for Season 1. Our writers Chloe, Quinn, Bel, Mya, and David have cooked up some amazing stories for your ears, and our cast (now up to nearly 30 people) has already begun bringing it to life in spectacular fashion.
We've got something special here, and we're going to keep making more of it as long as we can. Stay tuned.
Keep cozy out there, and we'll see you after the end of the world.

Teaser Trailer Out Now!
Our RSS feed is now up and running with the release of the Season 0 teaser trailer!
https://feeds.acast.com/public/shows/radio-san-lazaro
It will be a few weeks yet before the first episodes start releasing, so subscribe to the feed and stay tuned!
Radio San Lazaro is a semi-anthology. Every story thread will be different and the story will change and evolve over time. The teaser is loosely related to the plot of Season 0, which itself is loosely related to the plots of Season 1.
No story lasts forever, but what they leave behind always lingers.
Let me be the first to officially say:
Welcome to San Lazaro.
Morally grey enemies
Monster who is protecting its young but also attacks by grabbing its young by the legs and swinging them as weapons.
Monster that eats people but also regularly re-blogs signal boosts for important social causes.
Monster that's really cool. If you kill it, you won't get to hang out with it anymore.
Monster that, for no clear reasons, makes a random baby explode every time it takes damage.
Monster that thinks humans like being eaten alive due to excessive extrapolation from some highly specific message boards it found.
Monster that insists that if it dies the sun will explode and, sure, it's probably lying but what if it's not, you know?
Monster that's never hurt anyone but you would really like its stuff.
Monster who must be defeated to save the kingdom but also the IRL GM is in an IRL saw trap where if the monster drops to zero HP all their insides will become their outsides.
Warning ⚠️ long rambling thoughts on Doctor Who ahead 👀
