you cannot just let religious people "practice their beliefs as long as they don't force them on anyone" because

a) they will force it on their children

b) the essence of religion is that you accept your belief as universal truth. anyone who accepts other people's religious beliefs as anything but false and blasphemous does not view their religion and god as objective reality that cannot be doubted and questioned. this goes against many religion's main dogma, Christianity and islam in particular. you cannot be a devout Christian/Muslim and accept that there may be an equally valid interpretation of divinity or lack thereof different from yours. it's a deadly sin.

c) any criticism of religion IS criticism of god for religious people because they believe their religious tradition to be passed down to people by god and approved by him. doubting the morality of religious tradition therefore is inherently synonymous with doubting God's authority and the goodness of his intent

the critique of religion is inherently offensive to religious people because religion to them is SACRED. that's the POINT of religion. in an everchanging world people cling to one thing that can always be reliably stable and untouchable, out of reach from the rest of humanity. implying that religion might be man-made means destroying an escapism route and coping mechanism of millions of people who hope that suffering today will earn them good afterlife - guaranteed. (and don't forget the sunken cost fallacy)

im against religion bans and disturbing religious people genuinely minding their business, but if you're gonna ask religious people for permission to criticise their beliefs you'll never achieve anything because for believers any part of religion is above critique
