Dallas indie outfit Valise jumped off the page (er, stream) at me earlier today with their very unique and intriguing track Charlie Gray. It’s the first single from their upcoming album Young Bloomer, and it starts off greatly reminding me of Arcade Fire with its stringy, complex beginning (which does continue through most of the tune). Then, I realized it also reminded me of earnest, humble sounding and slightly lo-fi synth flavored Death Cab For Cutie, or The Postal Service. On top of that, there’s a constant drum and bass like percussive roll, plus some vocals and vocal melody that evoked emo alt bands of yore, like Ludo and Relient K. It’s quite an alluring, captivating package. And these guys are about to share the stage with Death Cab and Iron and Wine at the KXT 91.7FM Summer Cut concert in Dallas on August 15!
