I honestly think this is one of the best showing of their friendship and camaraderie with each other and it’s barely 20 pages into ChOG. It makes me sad that we get so few of these poignant moments with just the four of them. I like how others are brought into their group over time, but I wish we got more of The Merry Thieves. Just being boys and being silly and funny and enjoying life.

Also, we should bring back the use of the words ‘awful pill’ and ‘mopstick’ as insults. Brilliant stuff, truly.

It features Dru Blackthorn (and yes, future covers will feature Kit, Ty, and Ash, in some combination!) I am so happy to be working with Cliff Nielson, who has designed all the Shadowhunter covers since City of Bones, to make Wicked Powers both stand out as its own vibe and also fit with the rest of the Shadowhunter books. It’s so weird to think of counting down to the last one!

And as much gorgeousness as there is with the cover, the trade edition (the one you're seeing here) has such a beautiful gold-stamped cover and lovely Kitty endpapers* (swoon, thank you @frostbitestudios!), so swipe to see those, too. I know that Cassandra Clare will never kill Alec Lightwood because I read a post that said he was based on a friend she had lost when she was younger and she wanted him to have a happier ending and I think that's so beautiful I literally teared up this has touched my soul.This is such a lovely way to remember someone by forever immortalizing them in a book. And it makes me wonder about Alec's fear of being forgotten it's like Cassandra is saying "I'll never forget you I'll put you here in these pages". I really just needed to share this with everyone. Alec has always been so special to me and this added layer is making me love him even more which I didn't know to be possible.

ok we gotta circle back on kieran’s whole “you were together while i was away i hoped you would be the thought gave me comfort while i was in the scholomance” statement. the more i think about it the more insane it gets??? so here kieran is hiding in what is essentially a college dorm room, whiling away time by doing this (rightfully) petty-ass literature review of the scholomance’s faerie academia, and he is????? lying awake at night fantasizing about his ex boyfriend and his ex boyfriend’s situationship girlfriend??? fantasizing about them being together together??? tucking himself in cozy-comfy thinking about mark and cristina getting off with each other okay king ! flex that lack of jealousy! we keep joking about cristina’s fujoshi tendencies but kieran is matching her freak 4 freak. it’s not even in like a purely lustful way i truly believe that he was comforted by the idea that his partners were not lonely, the way that he was comforted in the hunt with mark as a lover. which makes it worse. lying there fantasizing about his partners curled up in each other’s arms after having sex for the first time get outta hereeeeeee

The Good Storm - 7/10 if this had been a different couple it probably would have been lower but TESSA AND WILL!!! OMG I MISSED U GUYS! And Jem showing up too was nice, I enjoyed it, good read

The Beautiful Ajatara - 4/10 James and Cordelia are so uninteresting that their novella story was focused entirely on Lucie lmao, and I love Lucie but Cordelia and James have always been kind of bland to me

Who The Wolf Loves - 8/10 Hoooly shit I have never cared much about Luke and Jocelyn but this did it for me, that ending really got me and now I'm rooting for a more of them in Wicked Powers

Zachary's Day Out - 9/10 This. Was. So. Cute. So silly and nonsense but at the same time had a strong thematic core about Alastair repeating the same mistakes as his father and still being a child inside, all the while being e x t r e m e l y funny

The Judgement of King Kieran - 8/10 I loved this, I'm always happy to read about Kierarktina and the actual faerie plot with the siblings voying for their father's title was actually super interesting to me? Like, I'd probably read a separate novel just about that, even if it wasn't Shadowhunter related

A Surfeit of Annas - 7/10 I really liked this one! Anna and Ari have never been that interesting to me (I like both their characters but they never compelled me as a couple) but I really enjoyed this and it got me on board with them

Bred In The Bone- 10/10 holy shit Emma and Julian can do no wrong, and a continuation of Thule/set up for Wicked Powers? hell yes.

City of Broken Hearts - 9/10 I HAVE BEEN REMINDED OF HOW MUCH I LOVE SIMON POV! And his insecurities make so. much. sense. and Izzy'a response to them felt very thoughtful and realistic. I love the Mortal Instruments gang when they're not saving the world and just being casual, and Jace trying not to insult the gig was just so funny. Also Anjana and Krog had me kicking my feet and little over their kiss? It was very silly in all the right ways. Loved this one, was smiling the whole way through

The Time of Two - 10/10 something about modern Jace and Clary REALLY works for me and I love seeing them do mundane things like errands. The plot set up for Wicked Powers. Lightwood family being expanded. This had everything I wanted from it, and now I am on the edge of my seat for that wedding, if it ever comes

Too Wise To Love - 11/10 jesus fuck I did not expect this one to knock me out. "And yet, no story can be defined by its ending, any more than a life can." I have not felt the need to highlight a line in a book in a LONG time, but this did it for me. NENE! I'm so sorry I've never thought twice about you before. Wicked Powers is going to (and it better) break my heart
