#depression makes you collapse into yourself and shut yourself off from the world #a lot of behavioral activation is gentle parenting yourself into forcing yourself to do things #it doesn’t have to be a ‘huge’ accomplishment #it could be brushing your teeth and washing your face before going to bed and seeing it as a win #Because it IS a win! You might still be sad but you did something to take care of yourself #I have to force myself to go outside. I kick and scream and sometimes the mental illness still wins #but often once I’m outside and I walk a little bit I feel lighter even if it’s just for a few minutes #new stimuli and activities give your nervous system something different to do #the idea is that over time this will become easier and hopefully enjoyable #I can feel like a real asshole sometimes when I talk to my patients about it #because it can very easily sound like ‘just stop being sad’#but as a person whose been on and off suicidal for like 17 years…..it can work really well. It takes time and perseverance

i think people are starting to confuse class analysis with bioessentialism. like... no not all men do this, but Men as a constructed social class do do this. that's still okay to say. that is regular material analysis of the world around us.

this is true, but it is not bioessentialist. both cis & trans men WILL see a mouse & eat it. this is because it is in their best interest to eat mice. they benefit from eating mice. this is essential to their class position, not their biological makeup.
