I realised that i never did an introductory post, so here I am!!

I’m Waterworks, but you can call me Sobs :)

If you’re seeing this, you probably followed me for Pokémon Horizons stuff (particularly likodot comics, my horizons ult-sister oc Sukie, and generally for being a huge Ult fan lol) or occasional mixed fandom artwork!

Heres a couple facts about me:

— Im a 16 year-old artist from Britain!

— Im aroace & go by she/they <3

— my fave pokemon is munna & musharna (because of the bw manga) and my fave games are Sun/Moon, Scarl/Violet & B2W2!

— my fave art media is watercolours with gouache, but i love coloured pencils, graphite and collage too :)

— ive been drawing since i was tiny but ive been taking it seriously and working hard since 2020!!

— I have tendonitis and hypermobility issues that make drawing painful most of the time (if i stop posting for a while, im usually having a flare up), but i still love art more than anything!!

— I love to draw my OCs from my stories: STEM, Bluescreen, Immerset & Your Still Life (characters and their origins are usually tagged!)

Spinel actually sounding like he's about to cry in the dub when Umbreon runs off.

(also, I do like that Rubina actually wanted to help. While I do like how Spinel's arc ended, it did leave me with some questions about how he ended up like he did, and I think it would have been fun to have explored his character more. It'd be neat if they brought these two back to try and break him out and give us some more info, tho I'm pretty sure they're just done with them.)

I love Ult Pokémon horizons because at first you think “oh… this is their new comedic relief in place Roy,,, :/“ but then you watch him doing stupid stuff in the background with the pokemon and how he acts overly tough and estranged because he thinks no one loves him and you go “aww the skrunkly 🤩 like if you’d double tap the when 🥰”. Then it’s revealed that he was abandoned at no older than 6 and lived on the streets for like 5 years and the realisation of it all hits you like the battle subway trains and you’re saying “OH GOD SOMEONE ADOPT THIS CHILD”

Spinel becomes funnier the more I think about him because Horizons emphasizes the passage of time and the concept of change over said passage of time, with Liko, Roy, and their friends actually changing and growing up over the course of the show, and meanwhile Spinel, when you think about it, is...someone who has been perpetually frozen in time and stagnant for a very long time.

Not as in physically, because he obviously did physically go from that small, weak child he was in the flashback of his Eevee evolving to the adult man we saw throughout the show (though frankly he's a short, scrawny string bean of a man), but in who he is as a person, he's been perpetually frozen in being that small, weak, immature child and he never, ever grew up from that mentally.

When he had Eevee, he was a small, weak, nerdy little boy who isolated himself from his peers and was a recluse who stayed in his room, never really fitting in with anyone, and was insignificant and weak in the grand scheme of things.

He may have physically grown into a grown man, but he never actually matured from that small, weak, immature little boy in the ways that mattered. Deep down, he perpetually remained that small, weak, immature little boy for his entire life and never changed from it.

And deep down, he knew it. He spent his run on the show beefing with young adolescents and hating their guts, and he became unhealthily emotionally attached to Gibeon and even his own Umbreon. The fact that he had beef with kids is the hallmark of someone who never grew up. All the while, he never trusted anyone else he was around and saw them as tools and approached them with a "use them before they can use me" mentality.

He always got really mad whenever someone indirectly reminded him of how small, weak, and good-for-nothing he is, like when Liko, Roy, and Dot kicked his ass through teamwork, and Dot proceeded to taunt him. Or when Friede outplayed him through a mere hunch and flipped the script against him. And when Liko kicked his ass thoroughly in the last Laquium confrontation.

And in both Laqua confrontations, he threw a hissy fit. When Gibeon died and entrusted the future to Amethio, Spinel got mad and went on a rant about how he wanted to be the one carrying on Gibeon's legacy. When everyone turned on him in the timeskip, he ranted to Liko about how bonds aren't real and betrayal is inevitable, and the way he was talking was like that of an immature man-child throwing a tantrum, right up to him fusing with the Laquium. And when Liko spelled out the truth for him, he was ranting and screaming like a child and calling Liko an intolerable eyesore and a pest. Y'know...like an immature, egotistic brat.

His reaction when Umbreon finally had enough and abandoned him sealed the deal on how immature a child he was deep down. He was shocked and said "Please wait...wait!" (in the dub he goes "Where are you going? Come back!") in a tone that sounded like an emotionally dependent child pleading for love and attention from someone they're emotionally attached to, and stumbling pathetically after Umbreon like a child.

What a truly pathetic person he was, but more than anything in a show that does utilize the passage of time, where the characters not only age but meaningfully grow up and change alongside it, he's someone who never grew up for many, many years and at his core remained perpetually frozen and stagnant as what he started out as: a small, weak child.
