There was something almost chilling about the outright disdain with which Mei dismissed the notion that she cared whether or not Gabriel helped people. The drive, the determination, they were powerful qualities—just focused on completely different goals than what you’d expect from someone going to a school for heroes, it seemed. When she leaned towards Gabriel, he couldn’t help but to reel back a little bit. This girl was creeping him out.

“You’re… really going to do this, aren’t you?” He asked cautiously, not really looking Mei in the eye. A part of him felt ashamed that he was even considering this, but… “Letting that kind of technology just sit around and collect dust doesn’t feel right. Not when it could be being used to save lives.”

Gabriel wasn’t a capable hero, not by a long shot, but with Mei’s help, maybe he could become something approaching one. The thought gave him a bit of hope. If he got to help others in the end… Wasn’t it all worth it?

“If I we were to go through with this, what would I need to do?”

     Her grin only widened. She might not show it at all times, but she was excellent at reading people and deciding exactly how to nudge them toward her own goals. With her fight against Iida, it had been to appeal to his sense of fairness and his naivete. With Midoriya, it had been gushing over heroes- whether it be tech or quirks. And with this one...

     He wanted to be a hero. All he needed was the tech to make it happen, and he wasn’t going to let perfectly good tech go to waste. 

     “ I am! And it’s simple. All you need to do is give me a call- or give me a number I can reach you at. Once I finish something, I’ll bring it out- most of these are basic clothing items and won’t be too hard to hide- and you’ll test them out! I’ll use your input to improve my designs! I’ll advance even quicker with real live feed back! Won’t that be great? ”

“I’ve thought about it,” he shrugged. He could certainly use learning a thing or two about throwing a punch—or taking one, for that matter. Would’ve made situations like getting beaten down the way he did during that last fight a whole less humiliating. “It’s mainly a thing of convincing my father to let me go through with it, I guess.”

Gabriel’s father could be a bit of a worry wart at times, and Gabriel wasn’t so sure he’d like the idea of his son taking up martial arts. Still, maybe it was worth a shot, trying to talk him into it. He would’ve liked to learn something like Taekwondo, maybe Muay Thai…

“Yeah. Sometimes I have to wear two or three layers of clothing, depending on how far I’m flying. And there’s a certain point where the air starts getting too thin for me to breathe, but I think if it weren’t for that, I could go even higher. Who knows, maybe even into space. Hey, what’s that you’re drawing…?”

Before Gabriel could even finish his question, Mei slid the napkin across the table towards him. His attention was instinctively drawn to the surprisingly intricate sketch of an outfit, a hero outfit that seemed just tailor made with his needs in mind. There was an excited glint in his eye as Gabriel read over the specifics, taking in the details. “Are you being serious…?”

The excitement went as quickly as it came, however, and after a hard moment of contemplation, Gabriel slid the sketch back towards Mei, shaking his head. “No, I’m sorry, I can’t accept this. I really appreciate what you’re trying to do here, but… You’re a UA student. You have a future as a support specialist, and you could get in serious trouble for trying to help me with this. If something like that happened to you, I wouldn’t be able to forgive myself.”

     Ohhh, maybe an oxygen mask for the air problems? Or, at the very least, one that could filter out some of the other gases, or even one that could convert the present gases into oxygen and make it easier for him to breathe-

     Wait? He was saying no? That got a little pout on her face- especially since he seemed to be doing it for her benefit. She leaned forward onto the table, tilting her head to the side. “ I know you wanna help people, but I can take care of myself. I make so many inventions just to make them, and spend so much time alone in the workshop that nobody would notice. ”

     She grinned and leaned back against her chair. “ I won’t get in trouble if I don’t get caught. All I have to do is switch up my tech’s style a bit. It’ll suck not to have it be recognizes as mine, but... I want to build this. I’m going to make the suit, whatever you say because it’s new and interesting. If you don’t want it, that’s fine. I’ll leave it in my pile. If you change your mind, on the other hand... ”

     She takes the napkin back and scribbles her number on it. “ Give me a call, okay? ”

HOW I RUN MY BLOG

SPEED: It ranges. I can go from not wanting to look at my blogs because I’ll be overwhelmed by replies, to banging out all the replies in .5 seconds flat, to just sort of replying between doing other things. 

REPLIES: I tend to try and match length, but sometimes I get too excited or can’t think of enough or my muse is tired and not responding. 

STARTERS: My enthusiasm for starts ranges from zero to a hundred depending on how good my ideas are. This is why I kind of prefer plotting to starter calls, haha;;;

SELECTIVITY: I retain the right to not follow or RP with people who don’t have a rules or about, or who I might not agree with. For example, if you smut with the minor characters, I’m not going t follow. I try not to be too harsh, though!

“It is. I can’t really imagine any medical-focused capes are eager to help unlicensed heroes like me. And doctors ask too many questions…” His hand drifted to the area in his torso, bellow the left pectoral, where he’d been struck earlier. It still ached. Nothing broken, most likely, but he couldn’t rule out the possibility of a fracture, and it would certainly leave a very noticeable bruise.

Not the worst way he’d ever been hit, but it was certainly up there.

“I’m not sure what my ‘focus’ is right now,” he said absentmindedly, not seeming to catch Mei’s drift. The possibility of anyone wanting to help him was far too distant in his mind. “I’m not much of a fighter, in case that’s what you’re asking. But I can move really fast, and I’m good at getting people out of danger. I have this… intuition, you know? Like I can sense when somebody is about to be hurt. It’s helpful, but not great for actually taking down the bad guys.”

He sighed. That was kind of the thing with his powers: They weren’t bad, and Gabriel knew they weren’t bad—he’d kind of pulled the winning lottery ticket with them, in a way—it was just that they weren’t good for the one thing he wanted to do, which was being a superhero. Flight was a practical ability that he could use in his every day life and had pretty much no drawbacks, but how was it supposed to help him stand toe-to-toe with the likes of All-Might or Endeavor?

He couldn’t, it just didn’t work that way.

“But… yeah, not dangerous, I don’t think,” he shrugged. “It’s just that when the situation calls for it, I have to try and help. Can’t stop myself, I guess.”

     “ Hmm. You’re a speedy type, but not too fighty, huh? You should probably try and take some basic self defense classes, than- that might go a long way in helping you out. ”

     She glanced around and grabbed a napkin, retrieving a pen from her pocket and sketching. It was too late- the ideas were bouncing around her head now, and they wouldn’t get out- not easily.

     She spoke as she drew, as if it were idle doodling and nothing else. “You fly around a lot huh? Up high with all that wind... I imagine you get pretty cold up there, huh?” Add in layers around the arms, legs, and torso to help retain heat and cushion blows, but leave the joints with a lighter, stretchier fabric to aid mobility. And then there was the goggles, and the leg braces- Oh, and a helmet to keep his hair from getting in his face, and speaking of the face, a face mask would help hide his identity so he didn’t get recognized-

     A part of her was trying to tell her that this was a horrible idea that could get her in big trouble, but as had always happened in her life, that part was drowned out by the much louder hum of ideas, mental puzzle pieces falling into place to create the sketch- 

    There were all of her ideas for him, laid out in graphite on a napkin. She’d unfolded it completely to have enough room without even realizing ... Oops. 

     “ ... If... entirely hypothetically, of course... you could have a hero outfit... do you think something like this would be good? What else would you add? ” Hypothetical were legal. Making pretend hero costumes was totally fine- 

     Who was she kidding with this she was in way to deep and she just kept going deeper.

‘Shame I can’t make you anything.’ Man, that was one hell of a way to dampen his mood. He’d kind of been feeling a bit like a hero back there, so much so that he’d allowed himself to forget the reason why the cops were chasing him in the first place. His expression probably showed it too, but not for long — he was all smiles and happiness again in no time.

“Well, you know, that… doesn’t exactly sound healthy,” he said, sounding genuinely concerned. “But I certainly can’t deny the results. I would’ve been toast back there without your capture gun to help me out.”

Besides, he could understand that level of obsession. He suppose he’d been that way about his physical training, working day in and day out, before taking his entrance exam for the UA.

Shame that hadn’t worked out for him.

“Oh, I’m just, uh…” What was he, anyways? Not a hero, certainly. “Just a guy who wants to help. I guess you could call me a vigilante, if you wanted to go that far?” 

     ... Huh. Was that a trace of disappointment she saw? It vanished quickly, but she kept it in mind, studying the boy as she did. Hmm.

     “ I’m glad it worked so well! And I’m even more glad that you didn’t wind up hurt! It must be hard for you to get any kind of healing considering you aren’t exactly licensed, huh? And it might not be, but it’s how my brain works! And the only way I can stop it is by doing something to get the ideas out. I used to only be able to make small things, like toys- any actual tech had to be kept as hypotheticals on scrap paper until I got accepted into this program. ”

     She leaned back against her seat. She really could imagine so many things for this guy. He obviously didn’t have a quirk like hers, but he could use some special vision enhancing goggles- maybe some things to brace his legs? If he did the fancy landing, it would be hard on his knees. Even some minor shock absorbers would help to take the strain off, and he really needed a more stream lined suit. Gaaaah, dammit. 

     “ That’s probably the best fit, yeah. It means someone who acts as a hero without being licensed. Some of ‘em get pretty dangerous. ... But you’re focused on capture, right? You seemed ready to leave as soon as the villain was tangled up. So you’re not a dangerous vigilante... You’re just trying to help, the best you can, right? You wouldn’t ever use this stuff for evil, I bet. Hmmmmmm. ”

Gabriel didn’t talk much, he just sat by and listened. He had to admit, overwhelming as she could be, there was something fascinating and endearing about the passion with which Mei dealt with her inventions. Perhaps he didn’t understand much of what she was doing, but he supposed he understood why he did it — he felt the same way about being a hero.

“I’ll have one of these,” Gabriel said, quietly as to not break Mei’s flow, finally addressing the waitress. “For now, I think you should bring her this tea too. She said she likes it.”

If she didn’t want that type at the moment, they could just order something else. He could just take the tea in a cup and drink it once he got home. No point to wasting good food.

“So, you’re part of the support course, right?” He asked as the waitress excused herself. “Like, officially UA? You seem to really like what you do.”

     “ Yes! I am! I’m one of the support courses best students, if I do say so myself. ” She kept a straight face for only about two seconds before laughing. It wasn’t a loud laugh- she was still trying not to draw attention- but it was still there.

     “ Nah. I can’t call myself the best. You only know you’re the best when people choose you over all the other support companies, and I’m not there quite yet- But I am the most prolific of the support course. Of course, that’s because I usually only leave the workshop to eat, bathe, and sleep, but... I just have so many ideas running around in my head! And I spent so long growing up with no way to let them out- and it’s like... now that I can do something to let them out, I just don’t want to stop- because they’re all there, and they’re all bouncing around and demanding to be brought to life. Who am I to tell my super cute baby ideas that they have to wait for mama to do things like eat? ”

     That mad scientist look in her eyes only increased as she spoke, but... once she was finished, she breathed out a slight sigh and leaned back into her seat. 

     “ What about you, huh? It’s a shame I can’t really make you anything. I already have so many ideas. ”
