I lowkey hate when programs talk to me in a friendly way. "don't worry, nearly there!" Shut up. It should say "loading 64.3% completed. Do not turn off device" and absolutely nothing else. You arent my friend you are computer. Act like it
I was talking about this with a friend but a really interesting cultural shift over the last ohhhhhh ten years maybe is that many people in fandoms view themselves as stakeholders and not audience members. Because of that, they think that the fandom should be running things, or at least have an acknowledged say in how something is run. And every reminder that they are not in control, no matter how small, bothers them.
btw it's so fucking stupid you can be anxious physically in your body even after you've decided mentally you don't care. I'm supposed to be in charge here
1. Buck loves working for Air Traffic Control. It was never a place he’d pictured himself, growing up, but it’s not just sitting at a desk, it’s fast paced, he gets to interact with so many people, he loves the data and the information he deals with, he loves getting to see the planes take off. He’s at a smaller airport and a lot of the planes taking off are private planes. He gets to know some of the pilots when they cross paths in the main building. There’s one guy he hardly ever sees, but gets to talk to all the time. He flies for a private charter company and Buck keeps him laughing by making outrageous guesses of what celebrity is on board this time.
2. Tommy ends up flying for a charter company when he gets out of the army. He eventually lands (ha) in LA, flying out of a small airport outside the city. There are a few other guys who fly with his same company, and he’s friendly but not close with them. He’s there to fly, after all. It’s the best part of his day. He gets a reputation for being quiet and professional, no matter who is on his flight. He gets requested a lot of the time. He’s booked as much as he wants to be. There’s a guy in the ATC tower who likes to guess who he has on board — he guesses one of the other guys spilled that Tommy gets the celebrities most often.
3. Tommy finds himself getting to his plane earlier than he needs to so he can talk to the ATC guy. Evan’s funny, even if he has no movie knowledge. Tommy starts leaving him with a quote and a movie title, telling him to watch it before the next time he talks to Tommy. Their movie preferences don’t always gel, but Tommy likes hearing his movie analysis regardless.
4. One day Evan says they could just meet inside the employee break room, rather than Tommy having to cram himself into his cockpit so early every flight. Tommy laughs and points out that Evan is always on the radio, so even if Tommy is inside, Evan wouldn’t be. Evan stammers through an explanation where Tommy eventually finds out that Evan just makes sure he’s on the radio when Tommy’s scheduled. Tommy checks his schedule and asks if Evan’s free for dinner his next night off. Evan says yes.
5. It’s not until Tommy is picking Evan up for dinner that he realizes he’s never even seen Evan before. He’s contemplating how crazy this all is when an absolutely adorable man waves at him from the entrance of the apartment building, and Tommy’s trying to make sure his face isn’t doing anything weird when this beautiful man smiles and gets in his car. Tommy takes him to a cute little restaurant that he likes, and though the evening starts off slightly awkward, because they’re not used to being face to face, by the time dessert rolls around, they’re relaxed and it feels like they’ve known each other for years.
