I don't post alot but this is a really important bookmark in my and many other generations in the UK. When we look back in our history books this point in time will be a black festering stain on how the government could get it so wrong! I don't want to get into a history lesson but today I wake up and I am simply shocked at the government could even try to deport an entire generation of immigrants that have been here for 50 plus years! You must be kidding! This must be some sort of sketch show because this is true maniac chaos. All of this happened because of one vote! This subject effects us all. In a time in our culture where we are breaking all previous records,being celebrated and recognised for all its aspects. Today goes to show how important it is to keep the discussion going and never stop. Don't stop celebrating, creating and successeding. Don't stop going to carnival! Don't stop celebrating and endorsing our people! Don't forget all those we have lost all to soon! April 16th will and should go down in British history as a "day of shame" ! The day the Birtish government tried to deport thousands of afro carribeans from there homes, lives and jobs. Spread the word so this foolishness cannot happen again! #dayofshame

The Paperboy

Show and Tell

This southern-fried bayou Gothic tale takes off at lighting speed with director Lee Daniels at the helm of the 1950s inspired tale. The feature follows Matthew McConaughey as Ward Jansen, a civil servant looking to extend his career for fame by proving a death row convict innocent. As the film is nostalgically narrated by Macy Gray, gains pace it becomes apparent that the plot serves only as a basis for the deeper construct of what the film is really about.

Yes it’s dramatic, riveting, emotional, it ticks all the boxes but the authentic raunchy stench of real world ambiguity smells just like momma’s home cooking. The originality and obscurity of the script gives the A-list cast enough breathing room to truly push boundaries and challenge you as a viewer on the interpretation of what actually happens within the 107 minutes. Sure its strange and unpredictable but because the characters are based firmly in the familiar reality of the post civil rights movement you find a home amongst stereotypes. Sure it’s strange to say but being starved out recently of all the latest Hollywood mediocrity and remake this feature nestles deep in your stomach like a fresh pot of jumbo (or your favorite home cooked meal).

Even as The Paperboy gains speed at its second half you still feel strangely at home, as the relationship between the young, misguided Jack Jansen (Zac Effron) and sexually rampant Charlotte Bless (Nicole Kidman) quickly changes gears into darker territory like the leftover burnt bits of your home cooked meal, you know you shouldn’t be eating them but you’ve been snacking on microwaved pizzas for so long even the charred bits taste good.

Making it strangely refreshing for a well known cast to start tearing up the scenery and spitting out weighty character driven dialogue into the violently disturbing atmosphere. Not since Gus Van Sant’s To Die For has Kidman played such a haunting despicable yet beautifully tragic character in only away that she can manipulate the duality of the human condition.

The Paperboy is by no means perfect but

This makes me so happy, and yet so sad.

He was smart, he was a writer (you could tell by his phrasing) and this is something he TRULY cares about. That boy has a heart and he cares. He sees the truth for what it is and he refuses to sit idly and watch as the youth of america just stumbles by.

BUT the teacher was done. She didn’t care. She was fed up.

BUT the students were uncaring, even laughing, as this young man walked out

BUT this video was put online to be deemed as a joke and embarrass that boy.

THAT is unexceptionable

THAT is not right.

If you are this young gentleman if you are his relative, or if you have ever done something similar.

I am so proud of you

To take your opinion and share. NOT ONCE did he threaten her, NOT ONCE did he raise his voice above a proper projection so that the class could hear his words NOT ONCE did he insult her in any means past how she was behaving with her job. He didn’t undermine her. He didn’t hurt her, and yet he gave his message and left in peace.

That makes him a true, undeniable, super hero in my eyes.
