just for kicks, imagine if jaime and brienne’s sword fight had received this sort of treatment. like what if it had received half this level of care and commitment? just for shits and giggles imagine it for a second
but do not for even a moment consider what no chance and no choice could have been in hands such as these. do not turn your mind to the inn at the crossroads, that way lies madness
tarth this tarth that, but the pennytree lore? that one was for jaime
Yea sorry that’s not a Targaryen, that’s Galladon Lannister of Tarth, Heir to Evenfall Hall.
ahem before everything gets stupid i would like to remind the assembly that a storm of swords precedes the publication of the sworn sword by a few years and grrm was in the thick of his feastdance jb diversion when he published the novella thank you for your time
drunk so will delete tomorrow but oh my god sometimes I can’t stop thinking about how jaime x brienne had the potential to be the best ship ever and how d&d squandered it for the sake of rushing their show like it’s NOT FAIR
Favorite Braime moment? (both books and show)
When he tells her that the color blue suits her and matches her eyes, while his inner monologue is screaming that her eyes are astonishing... honestly, my King of Denial. I mean, my friend Jaime Lannister goes from a mental narrative where he’s calling her ugly every two seconds to one where he not only pays her a verbal compliment, but internally he’s literally flashing back to those zaphir eyes. And on top of that, he’s a complete idiot and doesn’t even realize it because he has zero brain cells left, it’s just that so much is lost in the show because, deep down, Jaime is a total himbo in the books.
In the show, I feel like we lose so many things that clearly happen within their internal POVs, although it's saved by the fact that Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and Gwendoline Christie had insane chemistry. They carried all that shitty writing on their backs; they must have at least six herniated discs by now. But they have these moments of incredibly intense staring —like, really intense— that are just top-tier. I’d watch them and think, 'This is the content I deserve,' because I am all about that yearning and pining, even if it never gets resolved.
The swords kissed and sprang apart and kissed again [...] steel rang, steel sang, steel screamed and sparked and scraped [...] A red flower blossomed [...] "Come on, come on, my sweetling, the music’s still playing. Might I have this dance, my lady?”
Jaime III, A Storm of Swords, George R. R. Martin
knight x princess here, knight x maid there, when KNIGHT X KNIGHT IS RIGHT THERE (and it’s jaime x brienne from asoiaf)
brienne is honestly one of the most fantastic "knight" characters ever, and i hope that the fandom acknowledges her as such now that she is confirmed to be duncan's descendant.
the whole theme of knighthood is so well-enwoven into her story. she is the embodiment of a true knight while deconstructing the structural flaws of this title.
her whole hang-up about not being a proper lady is in a way connected to the theme of knighthood too, as there is a lot of rigidity associated with this title that is rooted in "purity" culture. it's also connected to her insecurity about not living up to the title of knight as she is not a man either.
yet, it's interesting how jaime sees her as both a lady and a knight:
"in this light she could almost be a beauty, he thought. in this light she could almost be a knight."
you have 20 minutes left to live
brienne deserved to be one of the leads in the show the way she is in the books, and her "no chance no choice" deserved to be adapted with the same treatment and energy that dunk's "are there no true knights among you."
honestly, we need her story to came to a fulfilling conclusion in the books and it to one day be adapted again!
Ser Loras stood. "I shall. On my honor."
"We are done, then."
The younger man started for the door. But there he turned back. "Renly thought she was absurd. A woman dressed in man's mail pretending to be a knight."
"If he'd ever seen her in pink satin and Myrish lace, he would not have complained."
"I asked him why he kept her close, if he thought her so grotesque. He said that all his other knights wanted things of him, castles or honors or riches, but all that Brienne wanted was to die for him."
Ouch, it must have hit Jaime right in the heart.
Brienne who asks nothing of Renly but to die for him while Cersei cannot even come to him one without wanting something from him.
Did he fall even more for Brienne at that moment?
"Cersei." He spoke slowly, like a man waking from a dream, still wondering where he was. "What hour is it?"
"I remember. It was Eel Alley." She wants something of me. "Why are you here, at this hour? What would you have of me?"
"The hour of the wolf." His sister lowered her hood, and made a face. "The drowed wolf, perhaps." She smiled for him, so sweety.
"Do you remember the first time I came to you like this? It was some dismal inn off Weasel Alley, and I put on servant's garb to get past Father's guards."
For a moment he dared to hope that all she wanted was the comfort of his arms.
I just know Jaime wants to gnaw on Brienne's biceps. Source I'm also in love with a buff woman.
Here we go! ❤️🔥
i have nothing to caption this with. grrm release winds of winter
