Cannibal Serial Killers: the real Hannibal Lecters
Listed below are some of the most interesting (and gruesome) cases of serial killers who decided to use their victims to create grisly meals. Be warned, this isn't for the faint of heart.
1. William Lester Suff: known for killing a number of prostitutes, Suff also inserted himself into the investigation by bringing supplies to the task force working the case. Although it isn't certain, it is alleged that Suff used the breasts of one of his victims in a chili he then entered into the county chili cook off. Suff's chili won.
2. Gary Heidnik: serial killer and rapist Gary M. Heidnik kept a group of women captive in his basement. After one of the women died, he dismembered her body, cooking her ribs in the oven and boiling her head on the stove. To dispose of the rest of the flesh of this victim, he blended it in a food processor to then mix it with dog food. He served up this concoction to the other victims.
A case very similar to this one involves a man named Harrison Graham, a serial killer also known as "the corpse collector".
3. Ozgur Dengiz: after killing his friend, Denzig ate some the man's raw flesh on his way home, feeding some of it to stray dogs. He put the leftovers from his victim in the family fridge, without saying anything to his parents of their origins.
4. Ivan L.: a man known only as "Ivan L." lured a man to his apartment through a dating website. He then stabbed him to death, and made him into meatballs and sausages. The 21-year-old chef video taped himself cooking his victim and posted the video to the internet, and apparently planned to lure up to a dozen more people to his house to eat them.
5: The case of three homeless men in Russia: the men in question killed another man, and after eating part of the body sold the rest of the meat to a local restaurant.
6. Jeffrey Dahmer: often counted among the most notorious of serial killers, a large part of Jeffrey Dahmer's crimes revolved around cannibalism. Not only would he perform experiments on his victims, but he would also consume their remains, often keeping intestines and heart in his freezer. Because of the assumption that Dahmer praticed cannibalism, many neighbors feared that he had fed them human remains among the times he had prepared food for them.
7. Negromonte, Cristina and DeOliveira: In Brazil, a man and two women were discovered to be cannibals, and one of the women had been using human flesh from their victims to make meat pies which were then sold to local townspeople. Astoundingly, the murder of their victims was described in great detail by Negromonte in a self-publshed manuscript. Therefore, it would seem the crimes could have been prevented.
8. Zhang Yongming: selling the flesh of his victims at the local market as "ostrich meat", this man admitted to killing 11 people. He kept human eyes in bottles of wine, and would dry and cure human flesh in his home. He also reportedly had bags of bones hanging around his house.
9. Katherine Knight: was the first Australian woman sentenced to life without parole, after killing her husband and attempting to feed the meat to their children. Fortunately she was apprehended by the police before that could occur. She had boiled his head in a pot, and cooked his buttocks in the oven.
10. Nikolai Dzhumagaliev: is serial killer and cannibal known for his set of metal teeth. Rumored to have killed between fifty and a hundred women, he also served his victims to unwitting friends. The victim's remains were eaten at dinner parties thrown by Dzhumagaliev. It was actually a few friends that he had invited over for dinner who alerted the authorities, after making the gruesome discovery of a severed head and some intestines in his fridge.
Perhaps the most terrifying fact about this case is that he is currently a free man, having been released after 10 years of rehabilitation.
Bonus: In 2014, a restaurant in Nigeria was shut down. Eleven people were arrested, including the owner, after the restaurant was reportedly serving roasted human flesh to it's patrons. Two human heads were found on the premises, wrapped in cellophane. The human heads were even listed as a specialty on the menu.
Looks like in some cases you really are what you eat.
