How To Release Negative Energy
How To Release Negative Energy
Keeping negative emotions like stress, sadness, anger and frustration inside of us is a recipe for disaster. Itâs only a matter of time before they build up so much that we blow up or have a total meltdown. Itâs much healthier to find ways to release negative energy as we are experiencing it so that we can get it out of our system and move on to better things. Here are some ways to release negative energy:
Write it out. Get rid of anger and frustration that you feel towards someone by writing them an angry letter or email â just donât send it. Tell them everything thatâs on your mind â donât hold back. Writing out how youâre feeling is an excellent way of releasing emotions. Pour your heart out and then delete it or tear it up. Youâll feel so much better after getting it out of your system.
Work out. Any kind of physical activity is a great way of blowing off steam, and it fills you up with positive endorphins instead of negative emotions. Anything you can do thatâs healthy and positive and makes you look and feel better is a bonus. Not only are you blowing off steam and getting rid of tension, but youâre doing something good for yourself too.

How to stay motivated?
This can be tough. We all want to live a healthy lifestyle, eat right, exercise, and have fun! But it can be hard with everything going on in life. With school, work, responsibilities, and more, our healthy lifestyles are often pushed aside and forgotten. How can you balance life and stay motivated with your healthy habits?
Eating Healthy:
Figure out a good plan. A general one- like which days you need to cook, go to the store, workout, do your assignments, work, visit with friends, etc. Making a plan can help you organize your week so you have more time to get everything done! If you have a test tomorrow then plan on studying tonight and working out tomorrow!Â
Find new recipes- donât get bored of the same old foods that you eat everyday! Try something new every week! It is more fun and gives you a great opportunity to try new things!
Buy a health book! I love reading about healthy eating and learning about all of the benefits! It really motivates me to eat right!
Shop at health food stores! I always get so excited when I get to go to Trader Joes or Whole Foods! I love going there and picking out healthy foods and it definitely motivates me to eat right!
Cook with a friend or family! It can be really fun cooking with someone and your family will definitely love the extra help!
Make healthy versions of your favorite foods! It doesnât have to be boring! There are so many good, delicious, & healthy recipes out there!Â
Flavor up your water with different fruits!
Working Out:
Set goals! I love having a running plan to follow throughout the week! You donât have to follow it perfectly but having a basic plan can definitely help to keep you on track!
Remember your goals. Whether you write them down, make a motivation board, etc. Find what works for you! It is important that you keep them in mind! Remember what you are working for and why you are doing this!Â
Record your progress. Whether it is in the amount of reps you can do, distance you can run, weight you can lift, progress pictures of you, or whatever you want to use, being able to track your progress over time and see how far you have come definitely helps!
Find a friend! Friends make most things more fun! Start working out with them, going to the store, cooking new recipes, and just having fun! You two can keep each other on track!
Try a new gym class! Now that I belong to the gym I go often! They have all kinds of equipment (so you can mix it up!) and a bunch of classes! From yoga, to cycling, to kick boxing, to aqua aerobics! Find something fun and new ! It is always great to try new things!Â
Buy some new workout gear! It doesnât have to be nice or expensive but sometimes just having something new is motivating! I bought a $10 running armband and I always use it and I was so motivated to run once I got it!
Mix up your routine! You can change your running path, change your workout routine, try something new, do it at a different time of day! Whatever makes it more fun for you!
Make a new playlist! Who doesnât love when that one song comes on that really gets you going? Make a whole playlist of songs like that!
Remember how it makes you feel! I love how I feel from eating healthy & working out and it definitely motivates me to keep it up !
How to stay motivated during recovery:
Always remember what you are working for. Remember who you want to become and how amazing your life will be once you rid the disorder. Imagine it, write it down, whatever you want- never forget why you are recovering.
Tell yourself everyday that you are beautiful - 10 times a day! It helps- it may feel weird at first but it does help! You will feel happier & better and self-love is so important during recovery!
Find support. Whether it be a professional, a friend, your family, whoever. Find someone who supports you and can help you during times when you are struggling! We all slip up and it is important to have someone to go to when you need help!
Find someone who inspires you. Let them be your motivation to keep going! You donât have to be just like them but you can use their successes to inspire your own!
Become an inspiration to others! The way you deal with your recovery and hard times will greatly inspire others when they are struggling as well! Keep your head up & never give up!Â
I hope this helps you all stay motivated ! I am here if you ever need any help or anything else (:

How to read journal articles critically
So one of the biggest problems Iâve had when I first started doing research was reading journal articles. I remember the first time reading my very first journal article. It was about HDL-cholesterol and different methods in isolating them. It literally took me DAYS to understand what was going on in that article. Since Iâve now had my fair share of journal articles to read, I learned how to critically read them and which ideas to look out for. So I wanted to share my own personal approach on how I tackle these crazy (yet very very useful) journal articles!

I've always struggled with school, paying attention, studying, etc. Still managed to get B's and A's. Year 11 is so much harder now and I'm struggling to cope with it. Went to the school psychologist and she said I have ADHD. Do you have any tips?
General Study Tips:
Find a study environment which isnât too distracting. Some people like working with background noise and others donât. If you like working with background noise then I suggest using something non-lyrical like white-noise so that it doesnât become a distraction. Use this space for studying only.
Iâve read a few times that people with ADHD can find it easier to focus while moving. If this applies to you then move around while you study, even if itâs just pacing the room.
Ask your school if they can provide any extra resources or tutoring. Not all schools do, but itâs always worth asking.
Take breaks while studying. No one can study for hours on end. Itâs important that we take breaks. I usually have a 5 minute break for every 25 minutes of work.
Be realistic. Donât set yourself unrealistic goals because it will make you upset if you donât achieve it. Being realistic means that you are more likely to achieve your goal and will feel a sense of accomplishment when you do.
Give yourself enough time to study. If you think that youâre going to get distracted then youâll need to allocate yourself more time.
Similarly, you might need to allocate extra time for essays and assignments so that you have enough time for editing. Ask your school; they might be able to give you extensions when you need them most.
Test yourself while you study (e.g. making up practice essay questions). Use the practice questions from textbooks if you can.
Use a laptop to take notes. Iâve had a lot of asks from people with ADHD who get distracted while taking notes by hand, or canât read them when they return to them later that day.
Study during your prime time (the time of day when youâre most active).
Work out if you work better alone, or with other people.
Review your notes as soon as you can after classes.
Know your learning style and use it to your advantage.
Organisation:
Keep your desk clear to avoid distractions.
Use folders to organise your notes.
Leave space to add extra notes later; if youâre using a laptop to take your notes you donât need to worry about this.
Keep stationery and other items necessary for revision within the area of the desk.
Use a small notebook to keep track of deadlines, library due dates, etc.
Time Management:
Invest in a planner. Plan all of your time so that you know exactly where you need to be. Hereâs a guide to different planners so that you can work out which style suits you best.
Have a list everyday of what needs to be accomplished. Tick items off as you complete them.
Develop a regular studying routine. The simplest way to do this is through a repeating timetable. Stick to this plan and avoid distracting activities.
But leave yourself a bit of wiggle room in case things take longer than expected.
Carry your planner with you everyday so that you can add events as you plan then so that you donât forget anything.
Procrastination:
Learn what motivates you.
Stick to your daily plan. If you didnât complete an item the day before, do it the next day. Donât let things keep rolling over.
Remember, work before play.
Avoid the TV while studying.
Use little rewards through the day to keep you going.
Give yourself a bigger reward when you finish a piece of coursework or an exam.
How to prevent Emotional Eating.
We all emotionally eat from time to time. Why do we do this? Most likely to take our mind off of whatever is wrong and distract ourselves with something else, food. According to  Dr. Susan Albers, when you are stressed out, your body is flooded with cortisol, a stress hormone, which makes you crave carbohydrates, sugar and fatty foods, which may be another reason why we turn to food.Â
But how can you stop this?Â
It is important that you recognize the times when something is wrong and you are turning to food. How can you recognize this?
Emotional hunger isnât satisfied once youâre full. Instead you will continue to mindlessly eat to the point where you may feel sick.
Emotional hunger isnât located in the stomach. Instead you are focused in your head. You are craving specific foods, smells, tastes, etc. You do not actually feel hungry.
Emotional hunger often leads to regret, guilt, or shame. You feel this way because you know you ate poorly and you know that food was not needed- you were not actually hungry.
Emotional hunger craves specific comfort foods. When you are truly, physically hungry - you would be willing to eat almost anything- including healthy options like fruits & veggies. However when you emotionally eat you often crave your comfort foods like sweets & other unhealthy options. Â
Emotional hunger comes on suddenly, while physical hunger comes on more gradually.
How can you stop/prevent emotional eating?
Learn how to recognize physical vs. emotional eating. Catch yourself when you are about to emotionally eat and ask yourself if you are really hungry. Figure out what is wrong and causing you to turn to food.
Is it stress? Many people emotionally eat when they are stressed out with something! You need to realize emotionally eating will most likely make the stress worse- you are not actually dealing with what is wrong and you are going to make yourself feel worse by overeating.
How can you manage your stress? Figure out what you can do when you feel stressed. Instead of turning to food, call a friend, go for a walk/run, take a bath, go on tumblr, whatever relaxes you and will take your mind off of things!
Also, figure out how to deal with what is bothering you. While you can go for a walk or take a bath to take your mind off things for now and hopefully prevent yourself from overeating, that may not actually solve what is wrong. Talk to someone about what is wrong and try to figure out what you need to do to get through it!Â
If you are eating out of boredom then find a new activity you can do! Take up a new hobby, make plans with friends, look for a job, or something that you would enjoy that would keep you busy more often!
Learn to deal with your emotions. Instead of turning to food when you are angry, upset, lonely, or even happy, find another outlet for your emotions! Whatever would help you personally. Write it down, as mentioned above, call someone, whatever helps YOU!Â
Emotional eating can be put to an end and you will feel so much better if you learn to deal with what is stressing you out rather than turning to food! Follow these tips and do your best to work through these situations! It may be hard at first but eventually you will be able to work through stressful times with no problem at all! I know you can all do it ! And I am here if you ever need anything!Â
If you have trouble with binge eating - I have a post about that here.
And if you just binged or had an off meal - I have a post about that here!
I hope this helps and my ask is always open if you need anything !Â

OMG OMG! Â LIKE DRINK YOUR WATER!Â
The 42 year old Englishwomen hoped that drinking more water would alleviate her headaches and poor digestion somewhat, but she never expected the additional benefits of staying well hydrated. The woman, who is known as Sarah, took a picture of herself before beginning her experiment and at one-week intervals for four weeks. In addition to her headaches disappearing before the end of the first week, her normally sluggish digestive system also began functioning normally.
The additional benefit that Sarah did not expect was a more youthful appearance. The dark circles and wrinkles around her eyes were completely gone after four weeks, and her usually dull skin appeared fresh and dewy. Although Sarah did not lose a lot of weight, she did lose two pounds, her waistline shrank by an inch and the cellulite she once had disappeared. Overall, Sarah says she looks and feels 10 years younger, and will continue drinking water at the same rate since realizing its benefits [X].Â

As a student, Iâve always been curious about how learning happens. I came to realize that studying traditionally - in a school, going over the material youâre supposed to- is only one way of doing it. Thinking of that, I started to search for directions to make myself a better learner - one who is not restricted to the guidelines of my university course but rather sees the opportunity to learn from multiple sources and about a wider range of topics. Afterall, I believe people are not single-minded - we have multiple interests and weâre fortunate to be able to learn about them. I came up with a short list of âdirectionsâ. Feel free to add to these if youâd like to contribute w/ your own experience. :)
#1 Get rid of the weight of expectations As a medical student and a perfectionist I feel always under pressure to know everything âotherwise Im never gonna be a good doctorâ. As irrational as it sounds, we all do it. âI have to know all of this or Im gonna fail my exam/Im never gonna get into collegeâ, or maybe âI need to be good in Chem because my parents want me to be a chemical enginneerâ. Whatever the expectation, it is probably weighing you down. If youâre too concerned with your outcomes you lose focus on what really matters: your learning. Figuring out a way to keep the expectations out of your mind while youâre studying would do wonders to your concentration and could help you notice if your plans for yourself (or othersâ plans for you) are compatible to what you enjoy learning.
#2 Avoid prejudgement Having an open mind is key to learning new things. In order to embrace different cultures or POVs we need to be open minded. Therefore, going into class or talking to someone while being receptive to the information they have to offer, even if it opposes to your prior opinions, is beneficial to you. Not only that would end up in healthier discussions but it would also help you view the other side of the coin you would have otherwise missed if you had been stubborn and close minded.
#3 Take some time to be lead by your curiosity It could be 10 minutes everyday or 2 hours of your sunday, for example. Taking the time to wander around websites, books, watch TED talks or youtube playlists about the topics that honestly interest you is a great habit. Find the themes that get your blood racing and make you feel like youâd want to be involved with that. I found that sometimes Id choose topics that I thought âI should be interested inâ because I do something related to them, but I realized I was missing the point. Donât go for what you âshould be interested inâ, go for what youâre curious about, even if itâs a netflix documentary with a 2 stars rating. Be free.
#4 If you stumble upon something amazing.. dig a little deeper! If that article got you wondering about things, google its keywords, search for related articles or publications by the same writer. If youâd like, write down your ideas and opinions. Luckily for us, the internet is an endless sea of information. You can also go looking in your local library or even universities. In many of them you can contact any department you want, even if youâre not enrolled in their courses.
#5 Have an opinion and debate! Thatâs literally it. Ancient greek philosophers build a lot of their knowledge by simply debating. A friendly reminder: inform yourself and THEN have an opinion, and always be respectful when discussing your ideas with others.
#6 Engage in projects if youâre studying independently, be inventive and make up a set of skills or topics you wanna cover and start checking it. A few other options are: choose topics, write about them and share what you wrote; create a blog; join a forum; look for groups/clubs you can join; teach other people; simply start a conversation with someone about your views on the subject.
#7 Donât let inertia undermine your drive You know that language youâve always wanted to learn and even bought a book but never got around to actually reading it? Well, it ainât gonna read itself. When we learn freely, with no commitments to cover an agenda, deliver papers or take exams, itâs easier to procrastinate and end up not doing it. And that is an awful thing because thereâs a world out there to be discovered and even though you want to explore it youâre just not doing it. Beat the thinking inertia and just START! Once you get the hang of studying without obligation youâll see how much you were missing.
