neil does ultra marathons. everything from the utmb to the moab 240 and andrew hates it. not bc he has to crew for neil, he is glad to be able to be there for him. but bc neil seems to be relishing in the recreation of his trauma. in the minutiae of it all. the unpredictable weather. the overnight treks through darkness. having to carry everything he needs on his back. his willingness to ignore injuries and discomfort (blisters and rocks in his shoes) to keep his pace. the anxiety that grips him as he hears steps behind him in that brief period before dawn, heartbeat racing, just to realize it’s another runner. attempting to pass. neil barely notices the scenery, the truly beautiful landscapes. content to count his steps, repeat the mantras mary taught him for when he’s exhausted and running on fumes, empty his mind, deplete his energy, and just run.
i was training a young person at work, and she referred to sexual assault as "SA" out loud, and i immediately was like, "no, it's sexual assault, call it what it is," bc idgaf if the algorithm overlords have taught y'all that you should fear direct language, how tf do any of you expect to ever address real issues with any amount of seriousness if you can't even say the words? imagine an advocate looking a sexual assault survivor in the eyes and asking "did he grape you?" it's absolutely fucking absurd, but these young interns and new hires are coming into an environment where we deal with survivors of all different kinds of abuse, and they're coming with the mindset that the words are as bad as the actions, and that makes them shitty at the job and look juvenile af
i HATE self-censorship for a lot of reasons, but being in crisis work makes it even more frustrating. who are you censoring for? like i am being so fr, WHO are you censoring for? have you even thought it through? people who have been raped know that they have been raped. if someone attempts suicide or is grieving someone who did, saying "sewer slide" isn't going to protect them from any of the feelings. a murder victim's family isn't going to feel better bc you said "unalived" instead of murdered. if anything, it's just extremely invalidating and othering. it's saying "what happened to you is so bad that i won't even say the word," which is NOT trauma-informed care. you are not protecting survivors/victims when you self-censor. the ONLY things you protect when you self-censor are the puritanical ideologies that are being encouraged by rich fascists who want your money and obedience
say the fucking words, guys. just say the goddamn words before i go insane!!!
I headcanon that after Thanksgiving the Foxes can tell the difference between the twins because Andrew has a scar on the side of his head from where Drake hit him with the bottle
BAD NEWS: it will not be the same forever
GOOD NEWS: it will not be the same forever
the only way i would trust an aftg live action is if it was done by a group of college students with a vintage camcorder and a bunch of thrift shopped outfits and diy props committing to the bit literally for the love of the fucking game where the acting and the music and the cinematography end up being immaculate due to pure passion and devotion to the both the art form and the source material such that by the end you forget you're watching some low budget grainy video made by rubbing two pennies together cus you're too busy watching the final moments through your tears
that or if the people who did heated rivalry did it but thats IT
One time I was at a pub trivia night with some writer friends and we almost won but there was a tie. As a tiebreaker they asked us and the other team to write down as many moons of Jupiter as we could in two minutes.
None of us are very into astronomy so at first everyone was like oh we’re gonna lose but there were three of us at the table that night who were either former classics majors or otherwise super well read on Roman mythology and the three of us were like give us that paper right now and we just took turns writing down all of the lovers of Jupiter from mythology that we could.
So of course we won lol

the kids are calling them "stone fruits." they start off small—think cherries. then they're hooked and they need a quick fix, they get peaches, maybe some nectarines. it's all they can think about. before you know it, they're trying the really hard stuff—apricots, plums. once they taste a mango there's no going back.
I passed a flower shop next to a tattoo shop and at first I laughed because I thought it was ironic and then i freaked because IMAGINE YOUR OTP IN A FLORIST/TATTOO ARTIST AU
OMG I COULD TOTALLY IMAGINE THEM LIKE THAT IT WOULD BE SO PERFECT

headcannon that even german/french speaking people can’t understand the foxes cause neil probs learnt it in france and canada (mixed with learning other romance languages at the same time), german in germany and the netherlands and the cousins learned through school (bar nicky), kevin through jean’s accent and whispered lessons combined with everyones terrible pronunciation so no one has any clue what anyone is saying
I don’t think healthy people every really get chronic illness.
I have a friend I know from when we were both 6. She is the only person living nearby and so she saw me go from walking through limping to wheelchair on a daily basis. I keep her updated on my health even tho we rarely hang out anymore. She was gonna come over yesterday and I had to cancel. She asked if I can’t hang out later that day. When I said i won’t feel better later, that if I feel that bad in the morning later will only get worse she got annoyed and “joked” that I’m just finding excuses. And I was surprised, she knows all about me being disabled after all? So, a bit taken aback, I told her it’s a normal thing for me.
“But you got the diagnosis now, aren’t you better?? I thought you’ll get better now”
She was honestly surprised and it made me realize a thing. They don’t get it. They don’t get that getting diagnosed only equals benefits like welfare or parking spot for us, and sometimes better pain meds but that is just like pushing luck. That it’s a forever thing. That that one day we felt good a week ago was just a bright spot and doesn’t mean we won’t need our aids anymore, cause chronic illness is not linear and will make a great comeback in next four hours, and the next good day is planned on when we’re 70. Cause when abled people are sick, they get better. And our illness is just an excuse for them. And when we say we will never get better they think we’re being dramatic and pessimistic. And I don’t think they’ll ever get it, cause to get it you need to live it. And I want my friends to stay healthy and not go through hell.
This is definitely okay to reblog and abled people are encouraged to reblog cause maybe it’ll help others understand
Hello it’s me Lexa and this post is relevant again as I just had the Legit Same Talk with someone and I exhausted my number of fucks to give
Growing up in the middle of nowhere, half of my friends had parents that were freakily religious and half of my friends had parents who were hippies. Hide-and-seek was the go to game because there was nothing about it that was an affront to God and it didn’t bite into anybody’s screen time, didn’t involve gambling, didn’t have many rules, could be played by any number of children. As I said, I was from the middle of nowhere and this game was often played in the middle of nowhere at night. Instead of sitting on the couch eating popcorn and watching Beetlejuice like normal children, we were climbing into the far stall of abandoned barns and the top floor of structurally unsound houses no one had lived in since the 70s. We also loved flashlight tag, where you’re out if the seeker hits you with the beam of their flashlight. We’d all be standing in the pitch dark nothingness hiding behind trees barely breathing.
Also, I’m not a very competitive person. I was bad at hiding during both these games. I liked to be the seeker more than the hider so I’d let myself be found immediately so I could help search for the others. Picture this, it is a humid August evening in 2013 on a farm miles from anywhere, no light pollution, just the stars. You are 11 years old and you are totally alone looking for your friends who could be practically anywhere. You’re listening hard for giggling or the crackling of leaves. You hear something and turn your flashlight on, standing alone in the beam is me, the kid with the gay ass haircut and neon lime green knee high socks who won’t stop fucking cursing even around the adults.
the “sexy lamp test” but for disabled folks: if you can replace your disabled character with a beloved pet dog that needs an expensive surgery to survive then you have to throw out your manuscriptÂ
