one moment i have not been able to stop thinking about since seeing black swan was nina's mother's line to leroy at i think the gala that well they've both ended up in the same fucking place. i wasnt sure about changing the choreographer from being a horrible french man to being. you know. a cool interesting woman but i actually loved the parallel it created and how it put all of these women on the same playing field fighting for the same thing. it doesn't matter that nina's mother was once ferocious; it doesn't matter that leroy was once a prodigy; it doesn't matter that beth was a star. nina's the bright young dancer for a moment but it's going to come for her too. i did think it added a lot that it's a cycle that they're all playing into and they're all fighting frantically and violently against it at the same time, and nina is the casualty of it but she's also the only one able to BREAK IT. one must imagine that leroy watched nina pull that shard of glass from her stomach and for a moment was jealous.
