Ada's family moved from France to American when she was just a baby. They settled in Chicago and that was the life she knew until she was older and started college, she met a boy in college named Laurence Evans. The two immediately hit it off and they began dating. He was seemingly perfect and Ada quickly decided the she wanted to marry him some day. Despite the disapproval her parents had for Laurence, Ada eloped with him, moving to his hometown of Salem, Massachusetts with him. This is where they settled down and had their first baby together. Their first son was healthy and happy, and several years later they had their second son, Wes.

October 24th, 2000, Westley Alexandre Michel Evans was born a healthy and happy baby boy. They were a happy family, Wes and his brother were great in school and got along, Ada was a sweet stay at home mother after their youngest was born, and Laurence was a well respected officer on the Salem Police force. At least, this is how everyone viewed the Evans. Things weren't always great behind closed doors. Laurence had a temper and he and Ada would fight often, but it never got far beyond little arguments. That was, until an awful night on the force for Laurence. That one night led Laurence back to his bad habits of abusing alcohol. His bad temper worsened, the fights between him and Ada got louder, and finally, he began to accuse Ada of having cheated on him, claiming Wes was a result of an affair. This wasn't true and anyone could see it, given the resemblance between Wes and his father, but Laurence wouldn't let go of that narrative.

Things eventually got physical, Laurence taking out his anger on Ada and it eventually fell on the kids too, especially Wes. Wes did everything he could to protect his siblings from this, especially his little sister, and as he got older he would learn to fight back. And once Wes could handle his own, Laurence stepped away from hurting the family. As long as Wes was around anyway, Wes' older brother had left long before the rest of them did.

Life wasn't easy in the Evans' home and Wes started being reckless, going to parties, drinking, and sleeping around as he hoped to feel anything other than the emotional pain of living in a broken home. And one night when he was gone, his little sister was hurt by their father, and that was finally the last straw, where Ada decided she would leave him. Wes, his mother, and his sister left and moved to Chicago to be with Ada's family once more. At this time, Wes was nineteen years old.

Wes, his mom, and sister lived with his grandparents for a bit before they could get back on their feet. Wes' grandfather helped get him a job at a restaraunt in the city, and eventually helped Wes get an apartment in Marina. Marina is where Wes would meet Holland.

Holland was his neighbor, her laugh was contagious, she had a smile that could melt the coldest winters into summer, she was beautiful and instantly found a place in Wes' heart. They started dating soon after Wes moved in and they stayed together for years. When Holland discovered she was pregnant, they were both scared but they'd both talked about hoping to have families of their own some day, so they decided to keep the baby and figure things out.

It was exciting and terrifying all at once, but it soon turned to a tragedy, yet something beautiful. Holland went into labor November 12th. It was over twenty-four hours of labor that turned into one complication after another. There was an emergency C-section and Ivy Mae was brought into the world, but Holland didn't make it.

Wes was crushed because he loved Holland and wanted to marry her and have this family with her, and Wes often wondered if the universe was punishing him for something with how hard of a life he'd had even since he was a child, but he pressed on. Ivy was a reason to get out of bed every morning, a reason to smile again, and became his whole world.

As years went by, Wes got help in therapy as he tried to find a way to heal from his past and learn how to navigate grief in suit of fatherhood. Things have not been easy and Wes is still trying to work through these feelings and fatherhood, but he's trying and he believes Holland is watching him do his best and watching their daughter become a beautiful soul, just like she was.

reese knocked on wes' door, hoping he'd be in, she'd got herself locked out of her apartment. "c'mon dude, answer" she muttered to herself, she had no idea when her roommate would be home.

Wes' mother had stopped by earlier that day at took ivy out with her since Wes had worked a late shift at the restaraunt, so while most people were up and about, Wes had fallen asleep on the couch fully dressed, as he was still exhausted. The knock on the door woke him up and he immediately assumed it was his mom, but when he checked his phone, it wasn't anywhere near the time she said she'd bring Ivy back.

Hoping it wasn't something annoying like the kids from down the hall who'd relentlessly been asking him to buy candy so they could raise money to go to a summer camp, he opened the door. "I never have cash on me, okay-- Reese? What's up?" He furrowed his brows, lazily leaning against the door as he looked down at the woman in his hallway.

"Well for the record, she seems very sweet." Unlike the demon spawn screaming like the world was ending because it was forty-five minutes after his usual naptime. Little moments like these, Liza's feeling of being overwhelmed was all-consuming, but she had to remind herself that it'd only been two months since both her and Jamie's life had changed for forever, and he didn't have much a way of communicating his confusions and upsets like she did. So she had to give him a little grace--even in times like these where she just wanted to lock herself in a closet to get away from it all.

She realized then that along with the stroller he also had her house keys now and she swallowed, letting out a breath as she thought it over for a moment, "I--yes please. If it's not too much trouble.: She breathed, taking a little step to the side so he could unlock the door as she gave him (and Ivy) a little smile, allowing herself a second longer to watch him since it wasn't all that common to find a man who was this....kind and patient in a situation like this "I'm Liza. And this is a missed-his-nap, very cranky Jamie." As she introduced them she led them inside, a flush coloring her face because there were still boxes lying around and toys scattered everywhere. "Gosh I'm sorry. Please excuse the mess....I-I only just moved in a couple weeks ago. I promise we're not usually....like this."

Wes unlocked the door for Liza as soon as she gave him the okay to, and he looked over his shoulder to hold his hand out to Ivy as he walked in with her hand in his right, while his left hand pushed carried the folded stroller inside.

"Please, don't apologize. I understand how chaotic moving is. I can't imagine moving with a toddler too, though. I've lived next door for some time now." Wes let out a little sigh as his eyes scanned the apartment. This one used to be his. It was the one he'd first moved into before he and Holland got serious and moved into her apartment, which was the one he lived in next door. It was so strange being back there and it brought up far too many feelings that he wanted to keep buried.

"Well, uh.. I know when Ivy is a bit fussy, I turn on music for her to listen to. It helps calm her down. And when she stops crying, if she hasn't fallen asleep yet, I'll read to her." And saying that, reminded him that he was still holding Liza's keys, and Ivy was still holding her library books. "Oh, right. Here you go." He handed the keys back to the woman while he took the books from Ivy. "I feel like this maybe isn't a good time, but if you ever need anything or just need someone to show you around, we're next door." He offered, smiling at her with a gentleness to his features. "It was nice to meet you. And you too, Jamie." Wes moved to the door then, ready to get out of the apartment that held so many memories for him. "We'll see you around. Tell them bye, Ivy."

At the absolute very least Liza was glad in that moment that she had shorter hair which meant Jamie's grabby little fingers couldn't tug at much during all of this. But still. She was just feeling very overwhelmed and when the thought of 'I want my mom' fluttered through her head, she nearly lost it altogether. So when there was suddenly a new voice piercing through her nephew's wails Liza's head jerked up, knowing she probably looked a bit panicked (and maybe even her eyes a bit glossier than normal) as she stared up at the man who was suddenly there.

"I..." she could barely get anything else out as suddenly he helping her, easily hitting levers and buttons to collapse the stroller- and again, Liza felt like she might start crying, but this time from sheer relief.

"Thank you, I.....I'm clearly not very good at this.." It was then that Liza saw the little girl down next to him, her hands holding books and Liza's keys down next to her feet and she struggled to try and haul the diaper bag up on her shoulder and keep Jamie from just tumbling out of her arms altogether long enough to say anything else. She vaguely recognized him too, pretty sure she'd seen him coming or going from next door, remembered her cousin mentioned a man next door with a kid and god, that meant he probably heard Jamie crying some nights when Liza couldn't get him to sleep because she wasn't his mom...--

"I-I um...I'm sorry about him. If he...--if you're ever kept up at night. That saying about terrible two's is very real I guess.."

As Wes folded the stroller, Ivy had spotted the keys on the floor and she handed them to Wes, which caused him a smile down at the little girl and he took them from her with a soft, thank you.

"I'm not very good at it myself." Wes made a face, saying it quiet it enough for the woman to hear him. "Please, don't worry about it. Do you need help carrying any of this inside?" He asked, nodding towards her door, but it was after that when he finally got a good look at the woman. He caught himself staring at her for a moment, realizing how pretty she was. "I-I'm Wes, by the way. This is Ivy." He shook his head, snapping himself out of his daze.

Evie glanced up from the little terminal she was currently placing orders in, a brow arched as she stole a peek out the waiter's station onto the floor. After spotting a specific table with a specific elderly couple, her lips formed a tight line as she shook her head. "Uh-uh. You have the Johnsons. No thanks. I'd rather be hit by a bus than have them in my station." They were needy, always sent food back, tried to get their entire meal comped. No. Nononono. "If it makes you feel better, my last table only tipped eighty-five cents. Left it at the bottom of their shake."

"Right, 'cause nothing says you've done a great job like making you dig quarters out of ice cream." Wes made a face of disgust at the thought of it. "I would offer my tips for the night to you if you took them over for me, but I need them." Wes let out a deep sigh as he felt that knot in his chest tighten. It was ridiculous how stressful a job like this was and even more ridiculous that people suddenly lost human decency the moment they spoke to a server.

"They suck. Did I ever tell you about that time they tried to get me to discount their meal because they didn't like it, but they ate the entire plate?"

As much as she tried to drown out the sounds from the apartment walls, there was only so much she could do. It was strange that she could still hear all the business happening on either side of her in the walls and she sort of hoped that she wasn't as bad as the others. However when she heard an unexpected knock on her door, Kalina got up and paused her recording.

" Hello?" She asked as she opened her door and came face to face with who she was pretty sure was her neighbor. " Oh, hi" @wesxalexandre

Wes wasn't angry but he was annoyed, however, when he saw the girl open the door, he felt some of that dissipate. Mostly because he realized he should be a bit more civil than telling her to shut the hell up like he wanted to. "Hey, I live next door with my daughter" He began, softly, " and she's trying to sleep now and I can hear you going into way too much detail about some dude getting murdered, so like, I would appreciate it if you kept it down and wouldn't give her nightmares." Okay, so maybe he wasn't as civil as he could've been.

Liza had only been living here for a few weeks, and she'd really only been a 'parent' for all of two months, so really, it wasn't too shocking to find she was a bit discombobulated and struggling as she got home. Her nephew Jamie was cranky, the boy never napping on their walk like she'd hoped, and with her cousin not home yet, it was all up to her to get things settled. So of course that's when his stroller refused to close up right and the diaper bag continued to slip off her shoulder and the boy was just wailing, squirming around in her arms and fighting his sleep as Liza tried to just get the keys out of her pocket--only for them to slip out of her grasp and make Liza nearly started crying then herself. "Jame, come on please.."

Ivy had spent the holiday weekend with her grandmother while Wes took extra shifts at the restaraunt for time and a half pay, so when he picked her up from his mother's house, Wes took the little girl out for lunch and then to the library where they grabbed a few books to read.

The father and daughter made their way out of the elevator and down the hall, where they both immediately heard the wailing of a child. Ivy pointed out to Wes how loud it was, but Wes didn't think much of it until he saw the young mother struggling to hold her things with the baby screaming in her ear. She was right next to his apartment, too.

"Would you like some help?" Wes asked softly, nodding at the strolling because maybe he could at least help her out with that if in no other way. He felt sympathy for her, considering he'd been through much of the same himself over the years. "Ivy, sweetheart, will you hold these while we help our neighbor out." He asked his daughter and he handed her the books they'd gotten from the library and the little girl nodded as she took them, happy to help.

"Here. These things can be tricky." He huffed out a little laugh, hoping to lighten the mood as he took hold of the stroller and started working to fold it up for her.

Wes stared at the ceiling in his bed room as he could hear every word his neighbor was saying as she continued talking to whoever it was about a gruesome murder. Wes wasn't actually sure if Ivy could hear what was being said from her room, but Wes didn't want to chance his three year old hearing this and he was honestly tired of listening himself.

So, Wes got out of bed and went into the hall way where he knocked on the apartment door next to his where the Robert Stack wannabe was residing.

"I'm this close to asking you to swap tables with me because they're pissing me off." Wes held up his hand, showing Evie how close together his fingers were to represent how close he was to losing his mind. "Actually, how are your tables? Tonight seems exceptionally hell-ish."

It was Wes' day off and he was supposed to meet Ivy his mother down in the lobby of the building since Ivy stayed with her grandmother sometimes when Wes worked late. But before Wes went down to meet them, he decided he'd stop by Clara's room, knocking softly on the door and smiling when he saw her face. "Hey, Ivy’s been with her grandmother, but I'm heading to pick her up now. We were going to head to the library and maybe get lunch if you'd like to join us?"
