currently big into hockey history and culture - i am reading soo many books abt it. have read and would recommend: 'we breed lions' by rick westhead, 'levelling the ice' by steven sandor, 'open net' by george plimpton, 'the down goes brown history of the nhl' by sean mcindoe, 'the greatest game' by todd denault, and ‘call me indian’ by fred sasakamoose.

i welcome any nonfiction hockey book rec :)

not to rehash anything, but I just thought of another thing related to hockey fandom that I don’t think I’ve said yet but is worth mentioning for perspective. one of the reasons that I think it’s helpful to keep rpf in tags that are separate from the main team tags is that having some tags that are more hockey-focused by default can be really nice if you’re a new fan who’s still learning about hockey (the sport).

I feel like I’ve mostly talked about this from the point of view of being inclusive to people who want to enjoy the hockey without necessarily having to scroll through lots of rpf, but it can also be good for people who enjoy rpf to have a place to go where people talk about the sport itself. it’s hard to get new fans to actually engage with the sport and help explain what’s going on with the game when posts about the sport are buried by rpf
