Tumblr Artist
Matthew Evans aka Snowskull | on Tumblr (b.1982, UK)
Matthew Evans is an Abstract neo-expressionist painter from Cardiff, Wales. Also known as Snowskull, Matthew chose the name from a Gregory Corso poem: “I feel the contrast between the purity of the snow and the morbidness of the skull combined shows the light and the darkness of my work.” Colour and poetry are two important elements in Matthew’s work, his painting is often a dreamscape, combining colour, composition and symbolism. For him, the imagination is more powerful than knowledge, and he expresses himself through colour “the language of art”: “Rather than painting what is in front of me, I like to paint my own landscapes and realities”.
This month sees the launch of a brand new SnowSkull project – an enriched arts project comprising of a website and a music compilation featuring some of the most innovative and exciting new electronic music producers from Wales’ burgeoning music scene’s – the two components live together under the name “All Great Thoughts Are Conceived By Walking”, that can be experienced at SnowSkullart.com. The website pulls together all of SnowSkull’s creative output into one place: a treasure chest stuffed full of paintings and sketches, all reachable by clicking on different parts of the giant, sprawling painting that is the heart of the All Great Thoughts Are Conceived By Walking project. “The painting is a journey of progression”, explains SnowSkull, “and it utilises all the techniques I’ve learnt from day one up until this point to symbolize that”.
Clicking through the different parts of the painting reveals the depth and extent of SnowSkull’s creative talents. As well as his own solo paintings, there is the collaborative work with visual artist Jack Hardwicke (cf. previous posts) whose combined work under the Sleepwalk Art Collective guise/moniker offers a unique synergy of styles. Matthew can be found with updated posts on his Website, SoudCloud, Facebook, Twitter and Tumblr.

"It really does something to your mind when you stand there in all that blood, killing so many times, over and over again. The blood can get deep enough to go over the top of a 9-inch set of rubber boots." - slaughterhouse worker Virgil Butler in testimony about his Tyson experience, “Inside Tyson’s Hell – Why I Got Out of the Chicken Slaughtering Business.” HELL… it’s where meat comes from.
Oh my god this is awesome. They got a piano that appears to score people by itself (but a dude is probably playing it remotely) and it’s in a train station and all these people react to it and play instruments with it and it’s so fuckin cute
It plays piano duets with people too waaaah I’m gonna cry at this piano

Syrian Refugees Speak Out Through ‘Dear World’ Project. [PART 1]
After more than two years of fighting, Syria’s refugee crisis has grown to epic proportions.
More than 2 million people have fled the war-torn country since March 2011, seeking refuge in neighboring nations. Another 5 million are estimated to be displaced within Syria. “We have not seen a refugee outflow escalate at such a frightening rate since the Rwandan genocide almost 20 years ago,” U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees Antonio Guterres warned last July.
Despite already housing 2 million Palestinians, Jordan has taken in more than 500,000 registered Syrian refugees. Many more are believed to live in the country unregistered, often with family and friends. Testament to the enormity of the influx is the Zaatari refugee camp, a tangle of thousands of white tents and makeshift buildings that is now sheltering more than 120,000 Syrians.
American photographers Robert Fogarty and Benjamin Reece traveled to Jordan in September with the relief organization CARE International. For years, Fogarty has been working on “Dear World,” a project in which he photographs people with messages written on their arms. He worked with survivors of Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans and with victims of Hurricane Sandy in New York.
Reece and Fogarty applied the same principle in Jordan, returning with powerful portraits of Syrian refugees who want to share their story with people abroad.

Dear Mom and Dad,
This is what happiness looks like. Sorry you were so miserable in your own lives that you couldn’t allow me a chance at my own. I went out and found it anyway. I miss you, and will miss you even more this holiday season since you won’t allow me to come back home unless I have a woman on my arm. Oh by the way, we’ll still be using the family recipe for the stuffing, I’m sure it’ll be a hit with our friends.
Happy Holidays, Your son, his boyfriend, and our spoiled cat
