Facebook Transition Advice Needed
Ok, I'm ready to go public everywhere but my full time job. Part of this is going to be updating people on Facebook. Do I:
Change my name and gender on my existing account? If I do this, what does that do to past tagged posts and pictures?
Create a new account? Should I tag it in an announcement post on my old Facebook? Should I "friend" myself?
What's the best way to do this? What are the pros and cons?

Teach boys about periods
My mother also talked about periods to my brothers.
When I first got mine I had terrible cramps. Crippling cramps. I once was camping with my family and a few of my big brotherâs friends when my period came. My cramps were so bad that my mom gave me a full pain killer ( I was 13 and before that she only gave me pills cut in half).
I literally laid down on my parentsâ air mattress and cried in pain for an hour before the pill kicked in.
My brothers friend came in to the big tent and I was just curled up and sobbing. Now, I was quite the tomboy and was known to rough house with my brothers and their friends and made sure I wasnt seen as just âa little girl.â So my brotherâs friend was confused to see me openly weeping in the fetal position (seriously, these were the worst cramps I have had in my life. My vision went white). He asked what was wrong with me.
My big brother stood up immediately and suggested a nice long hike. During this hike I am sure he had a pretty awkward conversation with his friend explaining menstrual cramps, because when they got back the pain pill had (mostly) kicked in and I was sitting up at a table when my brotherâs friend sheepishly asked me if I was feeling better. I said I was better, and he said good.
When we made s'mores that night my brother and his friend kept me well supplied with chocolate.
Making sure sons know as much about periods and menstruation as daughters makes them better brothers, better sons better fathers, and better men. A man that understands a period will not lightly accuse a woman of âbeing on her periodâ if the woman is in an argument.
Raise better sons Teach them about normal bodily functions.

Taking place in England the owners of the yard slowly kept adding sections to the contraption so when the squirrel learned one section and got the nuts, theyâd add another section. It took over 2 weeks to get to the final product you see in the video.

Any advice for avoiding misgendering yourself? I do it a lot because Iâm hardcore closeted and it makes me insecure in my gender sometimes.
Using gender neutral terms (like child or person) to refer to yourself. Give yourself a gender neutral nickname. My dead name and chosen name both start with D and my last name starts with J so my friends call me DJ. -Dakotađ
Also itâs something you have to get through. Because all those years youâve called yourself something and you would like to change it. For me it really helped to write stories about me with the right pronouns and name. Even something as simple as â(preferred name) went to the stop and bought some ice cream where the nice lady wished (preferred pronouns) a good dayâ. If you repeat something a lot it will come easily. Also donât beat yourself up for it! Youâve heard it for years, so itâs harder to get it out and replace it with something.
This is great advice! I may have my friends call me "V" in public instead of my deadname (dying name? Lol). People can just assume it's a nickname and move on.
As far as misgenderimg myself... Phew. I do this all the time and it's frustrating. Moreso, I keep answering to my deadname even when being my fully realized self. The other weekend I was hanging out with a friend and her husband, who shares my deadname. Everytime she'd call for her husband, I would respond reflexively. I had to keep repeating in my head: "I am Vanessa. That is my name. I am Vanessa. That is my name."

Itâs like watching a car repeatedly drive straight into a wall. Itâs unexplainable, it looks like it hurts a lot, but ultimately it ends up being darkly, ironically funny.
From my personal experience being an American on tumblr is like being the person in the BACK of the car praying that the person driving will STOP ramming into the wall. A lot of us know this shit is stupid and weâre looking out the window like âLOOK THOSE OTHER CARS ARE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD LETS BE LIKE THEMâ But the driver is like âFUCK YOU! BUILT FORD TOUGH! USA USA USA DONT LIKE IT, GET OUT!â but the doors are locked and the car is now smoking and threatening to catch fire.
