Late game bannerlord sucks ass, especially when you realise just what these idiotic lords are doing.

Girl, i am the head of a high level clan with more money to my name that most *kingdoms*. I own multiple cities and have a reputation of literally smashing my way through five consecutive castles with armies in the thousands. My core raiding party is two hundred and fifty strong, fast enough to chase down most others with ease and consists of the highest tier units from every kindom, imperial elite cataphracts behind vlandian banner knights with hundreds of khuzait khan’s guards ready to decimate any approaching enemy in conjunction with my battanian fian champions. I have the most skilled engineer in the whole of calradia riding by my side with enough knowledge to turn any wall, no matter how reinforced, to scrap.

And *STILL!* These lords decide that despite vladnia having taken over literally over 7/8s of the continent, its *definitely* in their best interests to defect to the rapidly shrinking khuzaits or aserai. That’s definitely going to go well for you, isn’t it?

At the end of the day, they loose horribly and i have to spend most of my time going back and form stomping rebellions down. Urgh.

I feel like there's an often overlooked detail about the whole 'monsters being imprisoned in the underground' that I've only just realised with the anniversary stream (god knows how long ago that was lol)

Humans... won. They succeeded. They pushed what few monsters remained to cower beneath them, then trapped them underneath a mountain.

Why?

Why did they do that, when the other option was simply to wipe monsterkind out? For heck's sake, the act of imprisoning them cost human's their magic as a whole. That's an incredible sacrifice to make for a race that was so feared.

But then I think of Gerson, of his (potential) partner, of the many, many friendships that monsters and humans had prior to the war. I think of the cost of that spell, removing magic from an entire race for the imprisonment of so few. I think of that, and I wonder whether that imprisonment might have been an ACT of MERCY.

Of course, it was still horrendous - being trapped for possibly eternity deep underground with no light is an incredibly cruel fate, but what is the alternative? By what little reports we hear of the war, it was brutal beyond comprehension, humans' driven by fear of what a monster with a human soul could do. I have doubt that there were many who would have called for monsters' total eradication, to slaughter every last one until nothing remained.

But they didn't. Instead, they gave up their connection to magic in order to imprison them instead.

Gerson's friend/partner was among the magicians that cast the sealing spell.

I wonder what they thought while they created the barrier. Was there sorrow, was there pity? Regret?

But did they think that what they were doing was kinder than the alternative? Was it a form of protection, however twisted, against obliteration by others more angry, more scared of monsters?
