Turning Red Spoilers
Can I just say how much I loved Ming (Mei Mei's mother) in Turning Red? Yes, she was overbearing as her nature was supposed to be, but she was so sweet to her daughter the entire time. I actually got the impression that she loved her, rather than the fact that she was trying to live her life out vicariously through her like movies tend to show.
When she thought Mei Mei had her period, she was incredibly supportive about it. She bought her a bunch of supplies and tried to make her more comfortable when she saw how tense she was in the car.
When Mei Mei turned into a Red Panda, she just jumped through a flipping window and went after her through the streets of Toronto to get to her. When Mei Mei was crying, and said she was monster, she didn't try to invalidate how she was feeling but instead she empathized with her.
She apologized for making her feel like she wasn't good enough and admitted she was scared. It's really hard for adults (especially traditional Asian parents) to admit things like this. To admit uncertainty, mistakes and fear is humbling in a society that stresses 'respect your elders' and 'adults are always right'.
She showed her support for Mei Mei, and I think most kids know how much that means. She always saw the best in her daughter (even though it was detrimental at times) and she acknowledged how hard she worked. She wanted her daughter to be in a strong leadership role, instead of wanting her to take over the business, or end up like she was.
I like that she didn't completely change by the end because that would be too idealistic. She had obvious flaws. She didn't let her husband chime in at all when it came to a lot of decisions she was making. She was judgemental and old-fashioned. She thought Mei Mei wanted to keep the red Panda to hurt her when it obviously wasn't for that reason. She was still likeable and tried to change when she realised the way she did things wasn't working and that is the mark of a great character.
I loved this movie. It was relatable and sweet and sad and let me just say I love Ming Lee so much and that scene of her crying as a kid was a great way to show the 'perfect' child finally breaking (and the explanation for generational trauma). I also love a movie finally SET in Toronto instead of just filming it there and editing out the CN Tower. Sandra Oh is the Asian-Canadian representation we don't deserve but desperately need and I loved her voice acting.
APPLAUSE FOR THE TURNING RED CREATORS EVERYONE!

Happiness
Hey. This has no topic but I feel happy today. I didn't feel happy the whole day because I woke up late and I wasn't feeling good in many ways but I'm happy now.
For me, (I don't want to sound cliché or like I'm asking for sympathy or something) feeling happy is hard, as I'm sure it is for countless people. I didn't try to feel this way, I just felt it even though nothing special happened. I realize that I probably won't feel this way tomorrow, knowing my track record or maybe for another week or month or year but I feel this way now so who cares?
I wanted to be here today and I just want to say: live in the now and love yourself. I am in no position to say this because I don't love myself. I don't even remotely like myself but I do want to tell people something positive rather than continue to be pessimistic and negative like I usually am.
Believe me, I know how hard it is to love yourself and to love life and to love the day knowing how the future might be like and I'm not even saying I feel that but honestly (I realize how useless this can sound) one day at a time. The future is bleak, the past hurts but neither of them are happening in the present so I want to tell anyone who needs it to know that I care and I want them to feel good.
Here are some things that make me feel happy so I want to share them (not everything that works for me will work for you):
Favourite Musical Sountracks (just being clear, I like the SOUNDTRACKS, not necessarily the musicals or casts)

And finally: Music. Always Music.
I hope someone has or will have a good day, too.
One day at a time.
Okay so I'm still hooked on the Golden Girls (I have been for like 3 months and refuse to watch the last episodes because I haven't cried at a sitcom before and I don't plan on starting now) and I swear since episode 2, I've been shipping Blanche and Dorothy mostly because I'm a sucker for the hand holding and sweet gestures. Also because they'd just make sense together so yeah. This is just an opinion, don't yell at me.
Also, I wanted to colourize more black and white photos of Bea and Rue again, so I did.
Here's the issue, though: the app I use for colouring and sharpening is great (it's called Remini, by the way) but it's also faulty (what free app isn't). Sometimes it'll get the faces all wrong and make it look odd or the colours will be just incredibly off and I can't fix it (with the Airbrush app). So unfortunately, not every photo I find works when it comes to colourization. There are fewer images this time and if anyone finds any more pictures that are relatively clear, I'd be happy to edit them. But again, there are no promises as to how they'd turn out.
Anyway:
Sharpened and coloured
First off, she looks like the Queen of some country: this whole photo is gorgeous.
I added the process which basically shows the steps to getting the photo clearer and such. This one was relatively straight forward but I must say, it feels quite odd to hyperfocus on specific features to do touch-ups and colour changes.
Either way, it turned out decently so:
Sharpened and coloured
A couple things about this photo:
She looks like someone's rich aunt in the best way. Y'now, the kind of aunt who's had 4 husbands and currently owns a Cadillac with a 3 garage mansion?
I don't like how the colours turned out as much. The lips and eyes are a bit sharp but I couldn't really do much about that so...
Also the apple: every time I saw this photo, I would be so annoyed by the apple and the fact that it looked bruised. I don't know if it was done on purpose or not but I wanted to 'fix' it so I did.
I also had no idea what colour it was. I assumed yellow or green so that happened.
Here's the process:
PART 1
So I recently got into the Golden Girls by finding like YouTube episodes (I haven't finished the show but so far, I love it). I looked up the actresses and - wow weren't they just wonderful. Standing up for Animal Right and the rights of LGBTQ+ people and teens. Amazing. Not to mention how progressive the show was when it came to racism, homophobia, ageism and reproductive rights.
Dorothy is easily my favourite character, with Blanche being a very close follow up.
So I used a few apps to edit/sharpen/colour photos of Rue McClanahan and Bea Arthur from their earlier years and...
I mean they were gorgeous in the 70s and 80s (and further) but doing this felt like bringing these photos to life!
Anyway:

PART 2
Okay so Kathryn Hahn won the MTV Movie Award for Best Villain
Incredibly well deserved and expected, by the way.
Elizabeth won for Best Performance
(also very well deserved, might I add)
But I just love Kathryn's reaction when she wins because she's fine for about 40 seconds until the guy screams:
"WE LOVE YOU KATHRYN!"
with everyone cheering in agreement and she just:
looks like she's gonna cry. That was sweet because the thing is, she’s never been on an awards show stage by herself accepting an award for being a great actress before (which is confusing to me). She also hasn’t had an entire audience screaming about how much they love her so, it would be overwhelming.
Also, this interview between her and Elizabeth Olson where Kathryn is complimenting Lizzie and saying things like how excited she is to see Elizabeth being celebrated and how hard she’s worked,
until Elizabeth comes back with:
“Kathryn’s just saying that because she stole the show and she had a #1 one hit that climbed the charts and so she just feels the need to say that,”
and then Kathryn does that thing she does when she ducks away her face and laughs,
and then she’s just crimson (or scarlet) and full-face blushes and,
Its. Too. Cute!
I just think she’s lovely and seems sweet and humble so that’s just a boost of serotonin for the day.
She deserved the award for sure.
Movie Idea!
Okay, I need a movie with these 4 comedians: John Mulaney, Sacha Baron Cohen, Richard Ayoade and Bill Hader. (I chose these guys because they're all my favorite male comedians. That's literally the only reason)
So, three of these guys end up getting framed for murder. It's kinda like they have been stalked by these 3 criminals who have purposly set them up (why? I don't know yet). Now, these criminals don't exactly look like them, persay. It's more like they adopted their clothing style, mannerisms and basically chose people who had similar heights and statures (though I'm now realizing that it will probably be difficult to find like 3 other funny, famous, 6ft tall skinny guys who look like these dudes).
They end up meeting at the police station where they get questioned (none of them have alibis because the criminals purposely set it up that way). Of course, no one believes them except for this one cop (played by one of the 4 comedians) who decides to help them with clearing their name. So he breaks them out and everything but like 15 minutes into meeting him, they realize that he's probably the most incompetent police officer ever.
And so, hilarity ensues as they try to catch the actual criminals.
(I just wanted an excuse to put these 4 guys together in a movie regarding crime, tbh)
WandaVision Agatha Redemption Idea
Spoilers for Wandavision
In this essay, I am going to use clues from the show to work on a totally ridiculous, insane and incredibly incorrect fan idea: what if Agatha is actually a good person/character?
If you don't want to read the whole thing (which I totally understand) but are still interested, just skip to the third-last paragraph. It's kinda summed up)
Okay, so I am aware that Agatha Harkness is a villain in the show. I think that the writing and design for her character is really good. That Kathryn Hahn's ability to jump from cheeky nosy neighbour to sassy evil witch to desperate downfallen villain is absolutely amazing and she deserves some sort of award just for the last scene she was in, if nothing else. And I am aware that while Agatha might not get entirely redeemed in the future, I made up a totally fictional situation that would paint Agatha as good, rather than the villain they wrote her out to be.
So, first of all, Agatha mentioned to Wanda that she tried to slowly nudge her awake. She would drop clues and change her behavior to try and get Wanda to "snap out of it" as it were. I don't know if this was because she was trying to be empathetic or was just worried about what would happen if Wanda woke up all at once, but for this situation, let's go with empathy.
She then showed Wanda what she was doing to the townspeople. She broke them out of their spells in front of Wanda and waited for Wanda to get them out of the accursed town before she proceeds to try to... y'know, really destroy stuff. On top of that, Agatha seemed really keen on making Wanda destroy this curse on the town, instead of keeping the pre-cursed town to herself to take over or something.
Okay, third point is that she didn't actually kill anyone in the 21st century timeline. Her killing the coven and her mother would be something like self-defence but that's another thing. She didn't actually kill a person in that town. Billy, Tommy and Vision weren't actually... real. They didn't really exist. (Sparky was also fake but I understand that it doesn't make it any less upsetting). She tried to kill the soilders but they had guns trained on her and Wanda so I don't really blame her.
And then comes Episode 8, where Agatha takes Wanda through her memories. They are depressing and dark and Agatha says that she really wants to find out where Wanda's trauma comes from, but I just kinda saw it as untrained therapy. It was like she was trying to tell Wanda how what she was doing was almost as bad as what others had done to her. It was a real wakeup call, to be fair. It worked.
So finally, the thing I really think made me twist Agatha's character 180⁰ was their last fight scene where I thought: What if Agatha was trying to save the world?
Sounds far-fetched, right? Hear me out.
When Agatha and Wanda are fighting, Agatha comes off as this insane, amazing, crazed, and power-hungry witch, telling Wanda that she wants all her power. She says so over and over that she wants to take all of Wanda's magic. It comes off like she wants to be more powerful, herself, but what if it was really because she was trying to prevent Wanda from destroying the world? Agatha would rid Wanda of her magic and was willing to trap Wanda in her own perfect little world if that meant that the rest of humanity was safe.
After Agatha realizes Wanda defeated her by using her own trick against her, she starts to get genuinely scared. Not angry, not annoyed, but she shows full on fear, because she was the last person who could stop Wanda, and she blew it. She then keeps telling Wanda more than a couple times that she has no idea what she's dealing with and that she will need Agatha's help. It seems like Agatha is trying to reason with Wanda one last time to save herself, but Agatha had shown herself to be very proud. Even tied to a stake in front of 8 powerful witches, she continues to be snarky. Why would she beg in her last few moments instead of taking it in stride like most Marvel villains do? Of course there are instances where Agatha has shown herself to be a bit more emotional than most Marvel villains, but I'm pointedly ignoring that.
What I'm thinking is that Agatha Harkness is trying to save humanity. When she sensed Wanda's magic and how powerful she was, she knew that this witch had the ability to officially end humanity and life on Earth. She sees that Wanda has created this town for herself and has to figure out how and why. Realizing that it was made subconsciously out of grief, she wonders how far it could go if Wanda gets more upset, more powerful or if someone takes advantage of her magic. So, she takes it upon herself to wake up Wanda Maximoff, take her power, release everyone from the town and therefore keep the Earth safe for the near future. Not to mention that Agatha Harkness is a morally ambiguous, but "good-side" leaning mentor in the comics on top of everything.
Again, this is only a fan idea, one that I know is incorrect because so much more points to Agatha being truly a villain, but this was so much fun to think about. Anyway, if you've read this far, thanks for listening to my rambling and please tell me your ideas, if you want.
So, here's Agatha doing magic because the choreographer for her hand movements deserves a raise no matter what they're getting paid. Not to mention applause to Kathryn for being able to make it seem like her character has been doing magic for longer than Elizabeth's character has (hence the sharp yet graceful movements) despite having only been part of the live-action MCU for, like a year:
Homophobia in Religion
I know this is long, but I implore you to read it
Okay, there should be a discussion about the thing with religion and homophobia. Like, first of all, where did you learn that? From a 2000 year old book written by men?
Sexuality was so unexplored back then that I doubt these people knew what homophobia was. I don't think it would be a thing. Homophobia is the hate against homosexuals and as far as they would have been very likely concerned, no one was gay back then.
(Obviously, this is statistically impossible, but the fact remains that men and women would most likely push down their attraction to the same gender in order to not get shunned).
I have seen interviews, read comments, watched movies and shows, listened to people speaking, etc. about homophobia. In almost all of these instances, they refer back to the Bible. They say that "the Bible says it's wrong, and so therefore it is." And that's it. No hesitation, no questions. No second guessing or extra thoughts over something so important. Just because, in a book that is over 20 centuries old, there is ONE line in it that says;
"You shall not lie with a male as with a woman; it is an abomination." Leviticus 18:22.
Okay, let's deconstruct this.
First of all, this English citation of the bible from its original Hebrew language has been PROVED to be inaccurate. In fact, the original saying is supposed to be;
"You shall not lie with a boy as with a woman; it is an abomination."
This is a reference to PEDOPHILIA not HOMOSEXUALITY.
Well then, homophobic Catholics, Christians and others might say:
"Well, in that case, why wouldn't it say 'children' instead of referencing only males to avoid confusion?"
To that, I say;
The Virgin Mary, (arguably the most famous woman in the Bible) would have been 12-14 when she had Jesus. When Samson met Delilah, he was 18. It would only by realistic to assume Delilah was younger than Samson (looking at the ages of all the other women in the bible compared to their significant others) and that would also mean that she was, at oldest, 17. Both of these women, by today's standards would be considered children. So, by that logic, most men in the bible now would be considered pedophiles. But, I digress.
What I am trying to say there is; girls were considered to be much lower than men (they kind of still are in some ways, but that is a point for another rant), and therefore didn't get the luxury to grow up before being forced to have a child by an adult male. Boys were different, because they can't birth children, and therefore, men were told not to take advantage of young boys. (THAT ADVICE STILL HOLDS UP NOW. DO NOT GET WITH A CHILD OF ANY GENDER, PLEASE AND THANK YOU)
Despite the sort-of-well-known knowledge that the Bible is inaccurately translated, religions dedicated to following the Bible still insist that gay people will go to hell.
This brings me to my second point.
Let's pretend that the Bible really does say "gay people won't go to heaven" or something along those lines.
If God really did think that people of the same gender falling in love / having attraction towards each other was wrong, he wouldn't create people with those attractions.
I can say, that being gay is 100%, for sure, NOT A CHOICE. This has been said before and it should be said again. BEING GAY IS NOT A CHOICE. How do I know this? I know this because being straight is not a choice for me. If I DID have a choice, I would not want to be attracted to the gender that I am attracted to. At least, not only this gender. So I'll say it again: BEING GAY IS NOT A CHOICE!
And that isn't a bad thing at all. No one, and I mean no one, should ever be made to feel ashamed for being gay. No one has the right to make gay people feel bad for something they can not control. No one has the right to make someone ashamed about having attractions and feelings for someone of their gender, something that is completely and utterly fine in every way I can picture.
It isn't a bad thing that being gay is not a choice and I emphasize this because something being seen as 'uncontrolable' is usually seen in a negative light. It's not and should never be seen as bad that gay people were born gay.
Okay, so, third of all, why would they go to Hell? The Bible never actually said that gay people will go to hell. Those words were never written down, nor have they ever been said by God, Jesus, or anyone else in the Bible. This is all just a load of crap made by people picking and choosing verses to listen to.
Do they know that the Bible also said to stone adulterers? I am pretty sure that stoning people for cheating in their significant others hasn't been incredibly popular for a while.
The point is, people pick and choose what to listen to. If they don't want to stone adulterers because "that's only how it was back then", then they can give that much-needed leniency for gay people as well.
Finally: what if they're good people? What if they are nice to everyone thet meet? What if they are the nicest person to have lived? What if they're brave, happy, generous, loving, accepting, forgiving, clever? What if, this person is the picture of kindness?
Are you telling me that religious homophobes would throw that all out the window just because the person is gay? All of that, all of those personality traits that would otherwise make them perfect for Heaven, all of them forgotten because this person is gay. They will go to Hell over something they cannot control, over something completely natural, over something that should be accepted. Just because they have an attraction to the same gender?!
So, the next time someone thinks that people should go to hell over being gay, think about whether they would go to heaven for literally every other amazing part of themselves. And being gay is definitely an amazing part of themselves.
If you are religious and a homophobe, you are entitled to your opinions. But please, don't shame other people for being part of the LGBTQ+ community.
Original Carmen Sandiego Script Headcannons
(Hopefully these are in character)
Zach: okay so you know how there are people in this world who look exactly like us? Would I be a narcissist for falling in love with them? Or would they have similar DNA to me making them my twin?
Ivy (sleeping in the same hotel room as him): ZACH IT'S 3 AM-
Carmen (also in the room): no, keep going.
(Btw, I know that looking similar to someone doesn't mean that you have the same DNA as them, just a disclaimer)
Coach Brunt (doing a crossword): what are the things at the bottom of a cat's paw called?
Dr. Bellum (without hesitation): toe beans.
Coach Brunt: wrong. Needs to be 10 letters.
Dr. Bellum: then the crossword is incorrect. They are toe beans.
Professor Maelstrom: actually they are called carpal pads.
Dr. Bellum: well how am I supposed to know that?
Countess Cleo: you have 3 cats and a PHD in biology?
Julia (after Chase is in the hospital from Brunt and Shadowsan): how bad was the Inspector's evidence board?
Zari: Well, there was red string leading to possible, helpful connections to Carmen Sandiego and at one point, he just put a pin on a picture of himself so-
Cleobellum Headcannon
Saira joined the faculty first and Cleo joined later on. Neither of them were immediately taken with each other
Saira wonders why Cleo got to the faculty seat because she just saw her as a snooty, stuck-up woman
Cleo didn't really talk at faculty meetings and wouldn't plan any capers. She just voted, mostly
So, Saira didn't really like her
That is until Cleo finds Saira doing a caper, by herself in the faculty room
The caper is being done virtually with a drone or any other technology and the Countess quicky informs the Doctor that the object she's trying to steal is fake and is a distraction because the authorities were informed that this artifact would be stolen or something (idk)
So she basically saves Saira from getting caught red-handed
And then Dr. Bellum starts to pay attention to how the Countess acts when she's with the faculty
She realizes that Cleo is actually kinda shy and no one talks go her, hence her having a lack confidence
So Saira takes it upon herself to ask Cleo things more often, or to include her in discussions
And then Bellum kinda gets a crush on her when she sees that Cleo plans the capers really well and that's that
Because I also HC that Bellum would start to like the Countess after seeing that she's relatively smart, because Saira does not just base attraction off of looks
Cleo is kind of the opposite and judges peoples' looks a lot
She thinks that Saira looks ridiculous and that she has no pride at all
Shed think this because of Bellum's physical appearance and the fact that she never seems to take things seriously
But she has to admit that the Doctor is very smart and has a really interesting way about going about capers
The Countess and Doctor Bellum basically subtly avoid each other for the first few months after they first meet because a conversation is something neither of them want
One day, Cleo goes into the faculty room and sees the Doctor doing a virtual caper and realizes that she will make a mistake
So she tells her and then after that, Saira communicates with her more and she's actually quite happy to not feel like an outsider
She refuses to believe that she has a crush on Bellum because Cleo doesn't just go around and have crushes on people like a highschool kid
Cleobellum moments in To Steal or Not to Steal Part 2
Evil girlfriends!
I still cannon them as pining but sometimes their personalities work together as if they've been in a relationship for a while
Supportive girlfriend!
Bellum popped up when Brunt called on her, and Cleo shows up when Bellum's caper gets messed up.
So, does this mean that everyone is in one room and they're just sitting off to the side and popping into each others' requests like kids in their parents' zoom calls? Because, yes.
She's really trying to keep up lol
Bellum changed the name like 3 times, I don't blame the confusion
I just thought confused Cleo was cute because she's always so put together and for a moment she's just like "the heck is this thing called, again?"
