obviously thereās nothing morally wrong with the projectionist lens through which a large portion of fandom operates but it does get kind of tiring to constantly feel like. hey guys what if we stopped talking about ourselves and instead talked about the character
and of course a degree of projectionism can be a very useful lens in certain circumstances, such as having unique insight into a character who shares certain aspects of your own experiences. but at the end of the day you still gotta recognize that there are going to be aspects of them that diverge from yourself
imo the term "walkable" in "walkable cities" should be understood to mean "wheelchair accessible" as well, not just literally "possible to walk in". the act of walking in a city doesn't automatically make it walkable
also "walkable to people who can't walk far all at once" by having things like shaded benches, water fountains, public restrooms, etc readily available.
(Tw for brief mentions of mental health struggles)
It may take some time and patience, butā¦
It IS possible to survive hallucinations and thrive.
It IS possible to survive paranoia and thrive.
It IS possible to survive suicidal ideation/attempts and thrive.
It IS possible to survive mood swings and more extreme, long-term elevated moods/mental states and thrive.
It IS possible to survive intrusive thoughts and thrive.
It IS possible to survive SH and thrive.
It IS possible to survive SA/CSA and thrive.
It IS possible to survive traumatic experiences and flashbacks and thrive.
It IS possible to survive depression and thrive.
It IS possible to near-constant panic attacks and still thrive.
It IS possible to survive through cognitive changes and changes to your abilities and still thrive.
Your mental illness is not the end. Your disability is not all that you can be. Your struggles will not end you inherently.
It IS possible to find acceptance. It is possible to find people who care about and love you or to grow to appreciate your inherent self worth.
It is not a moral failing to struggle. Youāre lovable. Youāre valuable. Youāre alive, and that alone means that you have a chance in this world.
Itās going to be okay. Hold on, itās okay to find that balance between rest and fight for a better life, in whichever way that best fits you.
Donāt give up.
No more waiting, no more debating, go get your hrt. "I don't know if I'm really trans!" You are. Now go. "I'm scared!" We all were. Now go. "There's a long wait to be seen!" Go get your name on the list then. DIY if you need. "What if my friends don't accept me?" They weren't really your friends. Now go. "What if my spouse doesn't accept me?" Get a divorce. Now go. You do not need to continue to live in agony and depression to pretend to be someone else. Go get your hrt.
Anyway here is my take:
I think trying to make a movie out of The Odyssey (not the story of Odysseus, but The Odyssey as in the poem) is a bit of a doomed endeavour as the structure of The Odyssey simply does not jive with the structure of the Hollywood movie
I think you COULD make a good movie out of the odyssey but would need to engage w the fact that it's a work which veers back and forth between fantasy and realism; that it's a story told out of chronogical order; and also that it is a Trickster Hero story first and foremost. It is perhaps best done as a comedy but with the occasional shocking swerve into graphic violence.
Here are my opinions:
The Odyssey should be a musical but āļøonly some of the time. When Odysseus is narrating? Musical. Penelope and Telemachus on Ithaca? š āāļø
Odysseus can break the fourth wall during the parts where he's narrating.
Movie opens with Odysseus inside Charybdis, whirling around and around clinging to a tiny raft and screaming. *Freeze frame* yeah, that's me. You're probably wondering how I got here.
In essence am I implying it should be tonally similar to the emperor's new groove but with ultra violence? Perhaps
#but more to the point of the original post: i wish moviegoing audiences were more skeptical of the ability of Hollywood#to adapt any and everything#like. i still think about how jeff smith's bone has floated around in development hell over several different iterations for DECADES#and like. HONESTLY? good. it doesnt need to be anything other than a comic.
this is a bit tangential but. yeah. it is straight up hollywood propaganda i think. everything must eventually become a hollywood movie. books must become hollywood movies. comics must become hollywood movies. successful movies from other countries must become hollywood movies. & ur mainstream hollywood movie is a pretty narrow category of what a movie can be.
[scrolling social media] Who the fuck is Jimothy?
[a brief internet search later] Ahh yes, ok I understand. Jimothy is my religion now.
Instead of using Chat GPT to write fics you should just send your mutuals your plot bunnies/prompts so you can spiral into insanity together like real men.

Overlock Stitch by @clothes_reetzy
Damn, that's useful
Finally a hand sewing tutorial on a hemline that isn't just the ladder stitch! the ladder stitch disappears when you tighten it, but it's not meant for hemlines because it breaks really easily! The overlock stitch is more stable, so it holds much longer, and it won't pucker or warp the fabric!

the translation is significantly more Soviet in tone than the original, which is great
Anytime i see someone defend the bans of veiling, burqinis, traditional arab dresses, etc in certain spaces as being for secularism and thus good and fair because sƩcularisƩ c'est bon, i just wanna go rabid. Like you guys think ur better than the muslim bans and ICE in the US but its all just another side of the fascism nazi coin dressed up to seem liberal.
Tell me how wearing a hijab and a modest dress affects her ability to go to school, quick. Maintenant. Allez, allez dis-moi, espèce d'imbécile fasciste
If you see this this is your sign to transition. Do it. you'll be happier.
jkr is literally posting upskirt photos to her social media. when will it finally get through to harry potter fans that their support makes her feel confident and correct enough to do things like this
If the holocaust denialism SOMEHOW wasn't enough for you to shut up about your favourite kids book as an adult; JK Rowling just committed a sex crime IRL against a transgender woman.
When do we start to care.
idk i would personally rather give up access to certain products seasonally or locally than have people enslaved to give me the ability to have any product any place any time. i think i can go without tomatoes in january.
This looks like a fucking parody post, or an edgy edit, but itās 100% official real Flintstones.
Clarification: I donāt hate this book, I love it, itās amazing. Itās just that taking a step back and looking it out of context is still really funny. Especially the lineĀ āWe participated in a genocide, Barney.ā
ok but imagine them in their cartoon forms saying this dialogue iām
can we have some context to this, perhaps?
Bedrock is having a mayoral election. One of the candidates is a violent war mongering asshole that riles people up against the lizard people. This reminds Fred and Barney of their time in the army.
Back then the father of said violent candidate was riling people up against theĀ ātree peopleā. Fred, Barney, and other soldiers fought what they believed to be a defensive measure against the tree people. Turns out, it was actually an invasion, in order to kill off the tree people and take over their forest to build Bedrock.
Thatās what Fred means when he says he and Barney participated in a genocide. They literally did.
(Extra fun fact, Barney adopted a tree person baby after the war, and his son Bamm-Bamm is the last tree person.)
just fucking read it

There are a lot of interesting things about this post but the AK-47 shaped spear is what really got me
This is just as wild with the context
Some of my favorite moments in the series
