I feel like 14 episodes is the right length for kdramas. 16 means having too many fillers. 12 means having so many plot holes and underdeveloped storylines.
I feel like the problem is forcing a story into a length instead of just giving it the time it needs. Some Kdramas are perfect at 16 or 12 or 14. Happiness is 12 if I remember correctly and that was the perfect length for that story. Alchemy of Souls S1 was great as 20 episodes and had time for a lot of character development.
But you are right in that sometimes a story doesn't have enough material for 16 so they stick in filler and then with this new 12 episode trend, you have underdevelopment and rushed endings. Even some of the 12 episode Kdramas I liked, I felt like they could have used another episode or two.
Maybe the root cause though is just poor writing in the end. If you have 12 episodes to work with, then you've gotta pace it out properly.
Xie Zheng trying to adjust to life in his wife’s village:
anyway this drama is silly as hell but i have to rock with a plot where a simple marriage of convenience deal ends up with a man accidentally sending his wife of two days on a suicidal quest to avenge him when he fakes his own death

LOVE IN THE CLOUDS 入青云 (2025) text posts (1/?)
The trailer for "Live Long and Prosper" has been released.
Song Qianji, the Immortal
my favorite cdramas with mdl ratings way lower than they deserve
inspired by a post i saw recently about a drama i'm not watching that's getting torn apart by mdl commenters.
kill my sins (8.0): okay yes, an 8 is not bad in the grand scheme of things. and technically i have yet to finish this--i take it in small doses because it's pretty fucking dark in a makes-you-think way, as opposed to a disturbed-but-can't-look-away way. so yeah, it's not going to be popular. but only an 8???? liu shi shi and shawn duo alone are worth at least an 8.2.
a moment but forever (7.9): i ranked this as one of my favorite dramas of 2025. yeah it's an overexposed pastel-colored xianxia but it has so many smart things to say about humanity, divinity, connection, purpose, etc etc etc. and liu xue yi is a force in this, fuck. 7.9, my ass.
fortune writer (7.9): this rating is CRIMINAL! by far the best mini i've ever seen in terms of writing and acting. it's more compelling than a lot of cookie-cutter dramas rated higher. it deserves an 8.5 at least!
love in between (7.8): seven. point. eight. *eye twitches* i'm sure it's the lack of traffic star that keeps this low, plus it's a lot of episodes with some complicated dynamics and a lot of (understandable, justifiable) betrayal amongst the mains. but that doesn't change the fact that this rating is WRONG! so wrong! this is in my top 5 cdramas of all time and i just...the injustice. i can't.
under the moonlight (7.7): another one that probably suffers for lack of household names and international distribution. it only has a handful of mdl reviews and one of them gave it--wait for it--ONE STAR. all because of the ml, who i also did not like in the beginning but eventually fell for harder than the meteor that ended the dinosaurs. so i need everyone with an mdl account to watch this asap and give it the ratings it deserves so we can erase the damage that mdl user rokkan has done.
and just a reminder that the abomination that is feud has an 8.2 rating. so fuck mdl.

i can't believe y'all lied to me, unveil: jadewind is fantastic
to be fair, i think part of the problem was how it was marketed. they were promoting it as a "idol-romance first, crime second-drama" then yeah, i suppose many people got the wrong impression and they were disappointed but the moment you realize it's just csi: miami, i mean, csi: ancient china, you will have such a good time.
like this is absolutely misleading, lbr
this is how is should've been marketed:
it's a crime show, not a romcom ffs
and i do think bai lu and wang xinqyue have chemistry, but it is supposed to be subtle. they are colleagues first, he is a nerd and she is slightly unhinged cop. yeah, they could've leaned into it more but for what the show is, how it's shot, the way the plot progresses and who the characters are, i think it's fits
i'm 8 episodes in and i'm having fantastic time
oh and it's beautiful, such a stunning show and the credits are peak
hbo max blocks screenshots even when I use the snipping tool AND firefox AND ublock which is a fucking first. i will never understand streaming services blocking the ability to take screenshots thats literally free advertising for your show right there. HOW THE HELL IS SOMEBODY GONNA PIRATE YOUR SHOW THROUGH SCREENSHOTS. JACKASS
somewhere out there is a guy who meticulously takes screenshots of every individual frame of his favorite tv shows and then painstakingly etches each one onto a roll of film which he puts into his old timey projector and recreates the footage as a silent film with his own lavishly hand-lettered dialogue cards and original score that he plays on his upright piano and charges audiences one shiny penny a play. at last, big media has finally outsmarted ol' Zachary Zoetrope
PSA for everyone who doesn't know, explained simply
this is NOT because of blocking screenshots, it's because of HOW streaming sites use your computer's hardware to optimise performance, which means the thing rendering the video and the thing capturing your screen aren't the SAME thing. so they can't talk together.
you can fix this by going to your browser settings, searching for "hardware acceleration", and turning that off.
This also fixes screen sharing to other screens. It has been GODSEND
type this in the toolbar to find this setting in firefox: about:preferences#searchResults
This is how I screenshot everything by the way
lmao on the edinburgh zoo site it says “there is a daily penguin parade at 14:15 but it may be cancelled last minute as it is a voulntary parade, we do not coax the penguins with food, and they may not want to go out” lmao anarchopenguinism
this is the cutest goddamn thing i’ve ever heard
I saw the penguin parade. It was a very slow parade, because the pingüinos take their sweet time and aren’t very fast walkers to begin with.
can I volunteer to be a penguin
I feel like the world needs to know the context of the edinburgh zoo penguin parade, becausr I’ve been going there my entire life and I only found out about this the other year.
So a while back (I can’t remember exactly when but I think it was some time around the 40s/50s), a bunch of penguins escaped. A keeper left the gate open so a bunch of penguins just… followed them. And the people loved it. Look at these adorable birds outside their cage just following that guy around! So they get all the penguins back inside and realise that none of them really ran off, they just followed the keeper and went back inside and crowd thought it was amazing, so why not make it a regular thing? Get enough people there that if one of them goes to make a run for it (which at least one has in the past), they can’t get past the people, and let the ones who want outside have a little wander. So every day, they get a crowd, they open the gate, and whatever penguins want to get out can go, waddle about, squawk at people, and then hop back inside.
Also, one of those penguins is Brigadier Sir Nils Olaf III, Colonel-in-cheif of the Norwegian King’s Guard. This isn’t really related to the parade at all, I just love the fact that there’s a penguin in the Norwegian army
Reblogging with Brigadier Sir Nils Olaf III inspecting his troops.
Carry on …
I love everything about this post.
A GOOD POST
A lovely older friend of mine lived in Edinburgh when she was a small child, and regularly attended the penguin parade – as a penguin. That is, she was a small toddler and thus about the right height and speed, and she just waddled along with everyone else who was about 2’ high.
So the answer to ‘can I volunteer to be a penguin’ is at least occasionally ‘yes.’
What a wig. 10/10. No notes.
