To continue on from my last post, fandoms seemingly have this neccessity to ignore and write over feminity in general. Whether its misogynists refusing to focus on women while instead focussing on uninteresting male side characters who barely get screen time or in this case denying hints of transfeminity no matter what, fandom hates women and trans women.
Back when Jadetok released 90% of the Jake fanart was either A. Jake in his coat and underwear or B. Doing their damned hardest to make Jake's dress anything but a dress. The former isn't like all that surprising, people aant to draw Jake hot in a masculine way which the story provided them with, sure go ahead (though often it felt as if used in a way to ignore the other outfit) but the dress. The fucking dress.
I had people swearing to me that you could tell it was just a green coat and shorts in several panels, that it wasn't a dress at all. I literally looked frame by frame for this suppossed dividing line that proved it was pants/whitey tightys underneath and came back empty handed. The thing is? I was literally right! I was more then right!
In every (almost) single design iteration it was a white dress (pretty similar to that worn by Beta Roxy) worn with a coat over it and the one single one it wasn't was for a fucking Trinity from the matrix inspired design (Do I have to say anythint about the matrix rn). They just use "genderfluid" to describe the outfit without even thinking twice because its just that fucking obvious that Jake has something going on gender wise.
And this brings to my point that I can't even tell if HSBC is doing badly in terms of transfems? Like I can't fucking tell when everyone denys every little thing for eternity in a way that ends up making girls think the comic is doing worse then it is because this fandom hates trans women.
Open your eyes more to transfem interpretations for the love of everything.

I’ve got a vision of wingman Gary... Like he #notices his two #bestbuds acting weird to each other and obv he hones in on that vulnerability immediately because he’s terrible !!
But then he accidentally gets way too invested and quickly it goes from being a one-sided bit to an actual mission to Get Them Together, which is unfortunate for Jimmy and Pete, because who tf wants to be matchmade by Gary fucking Smith of all people????

Jason should say "Who's that thunderbolt and why is she electrofrying me?" again, but this time he's talking about a really beat up bright red minivan

call me terminally academia-brained but i do think a lot of the fun of character analysis is figuring out how to build a compelling argument for a particular reading using lines of evidence from canon as well as meta/intertextual support
and you could say that what i’m saying here is basically “a lot of the fun of doing character analysis is doing character analysis” but let’s be real a lot of fandom character analysis is pretty heavily vibes-based. and i think that’s where i really chafe up against the traditional thought-terminating fandom attitude of like, everyone’s opinions hold equal weight and any interrogation of that is inherently hostile. because i think it’s fascinating to dig into where others are coming from in terms of their views on characters or dynamics or whatever, especially when they differ significantly from more commonly expressed views, and part of that digging is asking people okay what parts of canon are you drawing from to support your opinion? what parts of canon are you disregarding or downplaying? how does this argument hold up in the light of how race, gender, class, ability, etc. operate both in the piece’s in-fiction and real world contexts?
i am half blind. on my eighteenth birthday, a freak accident left me with a slashed retina, a temporary eye patch and a permanent loss of 86% on my right eye. i don't talk about it much, and apart from the inability to drive a car, placing my notebook next to the desk instead of on it once in a while, and making me truly abysmal at beer pong, it has not impacted my life much.
except for the bittersweet fact that i can never show people how breathtakingly beautiful the world looks when you eyesight is fractured straight through the middle. i close what my opitician calls my good eye and the world explodes in colour, every pinprick source of light spreading out into iridescent flares into all directions culminating in bright circles at the edge of my vision. every star, every streetlight, multiplying into a tenfold symphony of colour and light. it's so overwhelmingly beautiful. how can i ever explain this to people? that when they find out and look at me with pity they should be envious instead. what an immense privilege, to be able to look at the world and see it too.
