Books read in July! Thoughts under the cut:

Rosemary's Baby: Oh my god? Oh my god. Amazing book. Scary both on the paranormal and realistic fronts. Really loveable characters, which makes the obvious betrayal even more heartbreaking. Such a tight book, no fluff or wasted space. Honestly more feminist than a lot of modern "feminist" horror. 5/5

My Year of Rest and Relaxation: I like a girlfailure story, and was mostly vibing with the book, but like halfway through it became incredibly obvious what the ending was gonna be, and then the VERY LAST PAGE addressed that obvious ending in a way that just felt so tacked-on and pointless. Let's just say it felt like the ONLY reason the book was set in NYC in 2000 is because of that single page. It frankly ruined the rest of the book for me. 2/5

The Devil's Highway: If I weren't already super pro-immigration, this book would have radicalized me into being so. Beautifully written for a nonfiction book, and absolutely heartwrenching. The humanization of Border Patrol, while important to the overall themes of the book, feels weird in a post-Trump, post-ICE world. 4/5

Red River Omnibus (Vol. 1-3): Red River was my first ever manga, so I'm happy to see it back in print, and I've bought 3 volumes of the omnibus so far, in hopes I'll finally finish the series for once. Overall still enjoyable as a shoujo romance isekai, though reading 3 volumes in one go makes the repetition kinda wear thin. 3/5

The Summer Hikaru Died Vol. 3: Enjoyed this less than volumes 1 and 2. While I get the author is building out the world, I personally kinda lose interest in horror the more things are explained. I'm also just far less invested in the other characters than I am in the main pair of Yoshiki and Hikaru. 3/5
