My War Storm review (because this book killed me so much feels)
I honestly loved this book like a lot but a few things felt off and some of the scenes were a bit slow I felt like there was so much they could happened and some scenes just felt a bit out of place but I loved it anyway I mean I love this series and these characters
Talking about characters I enjoyed the different point of view my favourite is probably Evangeline I love her sass and humour and unlike the other characters she sees Mare as what she really is without putting her on a piédestal or anything and I liked that she’s also the character who change the most during the series in this one we see her being torn between her family’s wishes and her own and having more about her relationship with Elane and how it changes her and how she act with her it was awesome for me she’s a bit like Manon from Throne of Glass in a way that she’s strong and not afraid of killing if necessary but she’s also have a softer side without never becoming too nice and I liked that
Maven is such a complex character I can’t say if I like him or if I hate him at the end I think I just pity him he was controlled by his mother and that made him lose everyone who loved him and of course he did awful things that can’t be forgiven but he’s still really interesting
Iris is character we see more in this book and she’s awesome of course like Maven and like a lot of characters she has a crueler side let’s say but she’s also devoted to her kingdom and family and she wants revenge and at the end a lot like the other characters and she’s smart and powerful and I enjoyed reading from her point of view
Now Mare and Cal : they’re my favourite characters or at least they were during the first 3 books in this one I found them both a bit annoying and even if I understand sometime I just wanted to slap them like nicely but still I like the way they both have a particular relationship with Evangeline not quite friendship but not hatred either and they’re the only person who still care about Maven in a way we see them both being leader in their own way and also realising the sacrifices that need to be made in order to win the war. But at the end they agree on what to do they see how they can be better and how they can be themselves and together at the same time
But I must say the ending frustrated me It may sound stupid but I like when my OTP actually end up together and not the maybe maybe not situation of course in that situation it’s logical they need to found themselves and to know what they want before committing to each other but still could they at least try to figure things out while being in the same country like please so once they know they can just be together without crossing the continent okay it’s ridiculous but still I wish we had a bit more finality to their romance I enjoy open ending in certain case and in that case it was necessary but just a 3 years later sneak up with them being together would have made me happy (but this is such a detail comparing to everything else)
It’s still an excellent book like really characters wise and plot wise and it’s addicting and even after more than 600 pages I still want more I loved this series this mix of dystopian and fantasy was amazing
