In Star Trek: The Next Generation, there's an episode called "Devil's Due" in which the Enterprise becomes entangled with someone who appears to be the devil (of some alien planet, but also she is the devil of Earth mythology). The plot involves Picard decisively refusing to accept this could be real, sticking to his principles in spite of her apparent magic powers, regardless of how persuaded those around him become.
But what I don't understand is why Picard never brings up surely the strongest evidence that she isn't the devil. As shown in "The Magicks of Megas-tu," James Kirk already recorded the Enterprise's encounter with Lucien, an interdimensional alien who inspired the devil of Earth mythology (you know, that one mythology we have on Earth). Surely Picard has read up on his predecessor's history and knows that Kirk met Lucien and Asmodeus in a nonsensically ahistorical space Salem where Kirk used his newfound actual magic powers to shoot beams out of his hands (canon). Since the Federation already knows who the devil is, Picard can be sure the woman in "Devil's Due" is someone else. Can't believe Picard didn't mention this major historical event had happened smh.
Also I wonder what Picard thinks about that time Kirk discovered the Greek gods were real and were aliens (canon). Or the time Kirk discovered Kukulkan was real and was an alien (canon).
Or that one time Kirk met Abraham Lincoln and they had to fight Genghis Khan (canon). Or also that one time, under Kirk, that they thought Scotty was a serial killer and then after that Jack the Ripper who is actually an alien took over the Enterprise and Spock said "women are more easily and more deeply terrified, generating more sheer horror than the male of the species" (canon), pretty weird that happened
