Imagine meeting Shere Khan

Strolling the perimeter of your territory was nothing new. Nothing in particular. Nothing peculiar. The trees and shrubbery remained intact. Though few appeared nibbled on from passing prey.
With a short amount of years in this new home of yours, one large tree appeared to be a natural elder. The foliage was thick and strong, despite it's less than vertical state.
As you closed in on the greenery, you smelled it. Something not of the tree. Your nostrils flared, taking it in like an approaching storm. A couple of days old, a purposeful scent, marked on a dense bush. However distinct, it was no revelation to you that a male's territory overlapped your own. It was natural, and to be expected.
What was not expected, was the voice roughly three tiger lengths behind you.
"There you are," the voice spoke, a regality in his tone. You spun around, settling into half a crouch at his sudden appearance. The black tip of your tail twitched in anticipation. The tiger before you was large. A male well experienced in the world by the sight of him. Not a single scratch blemished his fur. At least, none that you could see. It really was quite amazing to finally meet him. Though, in an anxious and hesitant sort of surprise.
He took a step toward you. A soft paw to the ground, as if testing your reaction. His intent, you did not know, but you waited all the same.
"I am Shere Khan," he nodded his head gracefully. "I was hoping we would meet. It appears that we've always just missed one another." "Shere Khan?" You asked, an ounce of caution lacing your words. He nodded once more as you inspected him. Indeed you had heard of him. In passing at least. A great deal of information could be acquired while listening to unsuspecting prey. The thought just never crossed your mind that he would be interested in meeting you.
He smiled, pausing no more than a generous leap away. "And what is your name?"

Searching for Shere Khan was not how you had expected to go about your day. You had called for him in an anxious roar, but had received no response. As you continued to follow his trail, it finally began to smell stronger and recent. After traveling due North for over a mile, it was about time. Your ears twitched a fraction to your right as your heard the irritating cackle of a group of vultures. As you padded over, you remained shrouded by a bush. Peering over the leaves, you saw the hunched birds squawking insulting funnies down at the tiger from their perch on one of the trees. From your viewpoint, Shere Khan was leaning over a stream for a drink, only to be harassed. Crouching low to the moist earth, you crept around the foliage and made your way over to the base of the vultures’s tree. With a deafening roar, you raged up at the birds. With collective shrieks and wings flapping wildly, they bumped into one another. “Blimey!” “Fly away, it’s the girlfriend!” “She’ll rip into us for sure!” Springing upward, you swiped a paw at one of them, just grazing one of their dark feathers. “AHHH!” “Hurry up, lads!” They left as fast as their wings would allow them, breaking off a few twigs from the tree branches as they burst through the canopy. With a flick of your tail, you trotted smugly in your success toward Shere Khan. “I don’t recall a time that I’ve ever been more pleased to see you.” “You’re welcome,” you said, nudging against him in greeting. Purring was his only response for a little while until you joined him at the water’s edge. “Those foul creatures love nothing more than to pester me,” he snarled under his breath. “Perhaps I should not intentionally miss sinking my claws into them next time.” He paused in lapping up the water to eye you. “What?” “You missed purposefully? Why?” “I wasn’t hungry,” you smirked, causing him to chuckle, if only for a moment. With your paw, you swatted water toward his face. He was a little off-putted by the action, but understood that you meant for him to forget and not bother with the birds. He hummed with a small smile and shook off the droplets. “Shall we?” Shere Khan turned and you both proceeded to meander through the jungle together. It was not long before you found a nice quiet spot to lounge and relax for the rest of the evening.

The emerald forest was bustling with its usual sounds once again as you awoke. A few birds chirped and squawked as they flew through the canopy of trees, and a herd of trumpeting elephants could be heard in the far distance if you trained your ears in the viable direction. Yawning with a full display of your deadly predatory teeth, you stretched out the length of your striped body, hearing the distinctive sounds of your joints popping. After raking your claws through the short grass and dirt, you flopped back down onto your stomach in full contentment. There was, however, something odd. Perking up your ears and hastily turning your head in multiple directions to survey your surroundings, something was indeed off. With a pouty sigh and roll of your eyes, you knew that your love, Shere Khan, was not by your side as he had been when you had both settled down for an afternoon nap. It was not long before your keen ears flickered toward the minutest sound of blades of grass bending and cracking under an immense weight. You did not bother picking your head up from its comfortable spot upon your paws as the creature approached. “And where pray-tell, have you been?” You inquired with a mischievous quirk of an eyebrow.
