I’m all for fighting for marriage equality in the LGBT community. But we’re so focused on that no one knows about this problem.
W…wait Thats a thing????
Yep! The man I refer to as my husband? We aren’t actually married. We can’t be.
If I married him, the government would literally expect me to care for him and be his sole source of income. He would lose all of his benefits, including SSDI. Spouses are expected to share income and that effects ALL of his benefits, even his health insurance. We simply can’t afford to be married.
But it goes even further than that. If I were disabled, our incomes would STILL be combined, meaning BOTH of us would have our benefits cut.
For people reviving supplemental income, their benefits can be cut anywhere from 25% of their current income all the way down to 0%
In fact, one of the stipulations of receiving income under the adult disabled child program (which provides benefits for people who were disabled before age 22) is that they LITERALLY never be married.
I normally don’t link to blog posts as resources, but since social service resource sites like to dress this problem up and make it seem smaller than it really is, I’m gonna call it appropriate! Check it out!

I’m upset about the situation in case you couldn’t tell.
THIS AFFECTS MILLIONS YOOO
Here’s a reminder that trans people deserve jobs, homes, and a safe walk home. I know that many in the radfem can let their hatred for modern trans activism spill over into hatred for trans people, but let’s remember that these people are human and deserve basic rights.
I want to add that you should be supportive of transgender people as well. Gender dysphoria is a bitch, and a lot of the struggles it creates are isolating and hazardous.
Also, many parts of trans activism are important; right to employment without discrimination, housing without eviction, shelters for displaced trans youth, etc.
The days surrounding Blasey Ford’s testimony, I felt so much sorrow and worry for all the women who have been victim to sexual assault, and the wounds the hearing would reopen. But I didn’t count myself among them because, after a few years of therapy, I had decided that I was over it.
I didn’t watch her testimony and I avoided all news about it, and my excuse was that I was busy and I knew what the outcome would be anyways. It’s taken me a minute to realize that my isolation was probably because I’m actually not over it.
I’m definitely not winning any cat mom awards today.
But she honestly doesn’t seem to mind the outfit, just the antenna....
An American woman claims Cristiano Ronaldo raped her in Las Vegas. Years ago, the soccer star paid her to remain silent. Now, the woman is going public for the first time and filing a complaint against Ronaldo. She possesses a document that could be extremely dangerous for him. By DER SPIEGEL Staff
Her mother Cheryl, 66, remains behind, a diminutive woman with dark hair pulled up in a bun. She chooses her words carefully. “It’s never left her. Every day, she lives it,” she says. “There were times when she would call me and his – he would be on a billboard or whatever, and she would just completely disintegrate. Having to walk into a store to get a pint of milk, and you’ve got his picture everywhere. (…) He’s the soccer god that everybody thinks is just perfect and flawless. (…) And she can’t even get out of bed some days.” Cheryl Mayorga shakes her head. “It’s just wrong. We’re behind her 100 percent.”
I believe Kathryn Mayorga. Do you?
I know this is scooting very close to the “omg why is no one reblogging this” territory, but the fact how little waves this is making in the football fandom is honestly terrifying to me.
People here make social justice issues out of every single thing, from bad interview quotes to that time someone thought Pulisic was dating a Trump supporter (he wasn’t) to “is it racist to say you don’t want your club to promote inhumane regimes overseas?”
But now one of if not the most famous player of this sport gets accused of rape and there is almost nothing. This story has been out for days. It’s not some vague, easily dismissed “he said she said” situation.
One of the leading investigative newspapers of Europe has published an article making very credible claims that accuse him of rape. At least 20 people were involved with the fact-checking over multiple weeks, according to Spiegel. The victim herself and multiple family members are quoted verbatim, Her story matches the results of a rape kit taken at the time (which is quoted in the article) as well as the original police report (which Spiegel also posted), filed one day after the assault, where she accuses a world famous athlete of raping her but doesn’t want to disclose his name because she was scared of the repercussions. Photos exist of her with Ronaldo from the day of the rape. A forensic psychiatrist’s evaluation is quoted that confirms she suffers from PTSD due to the rape.
Spiegel has, thanks to Football Leaks, papers proving that Ronaldo hired a team of “Reputation Specialists” that followed her and her family around in order to make her appear unstable and to dissuade her from pressing charges. Spiegel also has E-Mails from Ronaldo to his lawyer where freely admits she said “no” and told him to stop multiple times before and during the rape.
Honestly this is the clearest and best researched rape accusation that I have ever come across. And I see so many fangirls on here keep posting Ronaldo pics and ignoring this because it’s inconvient for them when it’s their fave.
why do people think that decriminalizing prostitution and making it just like any other job will lead to like, rich, free, happy, independent, safe, healthy women instead of like… amazon operating brothels as miserable as its warehouses
It’s hard enough for most people to find a reasonable apartment for rent in Boston, but when you throw a child into the mix, it can be almost impossible.
It’s hard enough for most people to find a reasonable apartment for rent in Boston, but when you throw a child into the mix, it can be almost impossible.
Kara Olivere, a special education teacher in Arlington, spent nearly a year trying to find an apartment for herself and her 1-year-old. She rarely heard back from rental agents. “When I first started looking, I was very upfront about having a toddler,’’ Olivere said. After a while, she stopped mentioning her son, and voila, she got appointments to tour apartments. The agents would be friendly at the showing, she said, “but once I mentioned I had a child, their attitude would drastically change.’’
At a showing in Somerville, Olivere told the agent the apartment was rundown and wouldn’t be safe for her son. “You never told me you had a son,’’ the agent barked, adding that none of the nearby apartments were deleaded either. Olivere asked him what she was supposed to do as a parent trying to rent with a young child. “He said, ‘People with kids just buy,’’’ she recalled.
While getting the rental application for a nice apartment in Medford, Olivere asked who lived upstairs. The agent “said she wasn’t sure, but no one with kids, because the prior applicant was rejected for having a kid,’’ Olivere said. “I told her that was illegal and that I have a son.’’ Some awkward backpedaling followed, but Olivere didn’t get the apartment.
Having rented with roommates for years, Olivere said, it was always tough to find a decent apartment in the city, but renting with a child has put past searches in perspective. “It’s not that it was easy,’’ she said, “but the realtors were eager to work with you — you’d practically have to beat them off with a stick.’’ Renting with a kid, meanwhile, was a nonstarter. “My profession, income, credit, and savings are all better than they’ve ever been in the past,’’ she said, “but I couldn’t even get called back, much less see a place.’’
The law, meanwhile, is clear: It’s illegal not to rent to families with children or to offer them different rental terms — such as requiring families to live in a first-floor unit or charging them a security deposit when other tenants don’t pay one, said Jamie Langowski, assistant director of the Housing Discrimination Testing Program at Suffolk University Law School. The program tests for cases of housing bias primarily in Greater Boston, and unfortunately, Olivere’s experience isn’t unique. “There is rampant illegal discrimination occurring,’’ Langowski said.
“The tests are pretty straightforward, much like secret shopping,’’ Langowski said. Two testers who are similar in virtually every way except for one key variable — such as familial status, race, or gender identity — inquire about apartments, documenting their interactions with rental agents and landlords. “What we’ve found is that discrimination against families with children is common,’’ Langowski said, and prospective tenants are often told right to their faces that an apartment isn’t available to them because of their kids or the presence of lead paint.

I want young girls to know that sexualizing themselves for adult approval is destructive. I want young boys to know that they deserve better than grown ass women getting away with leering at and touching them. I want youth of the next generation to not be sexually broken the way I was due to hyper sexuality in our perverted culture. I just want kids to be kids and to have adults get properly dragged for abusing their responsibilities to kids to satisfy their lust.

Critically examine why you engage in the things you do. Ask yourself where your interests began, and why.
There is a way out.
“If you obsess over whether you are making the right decision, you are basically assuming that the universe will reward you for one thing and punish you for another. The universe has no fixed agenda. Once you make any decision, it works around that decision. There is no right or wrong, only a series of possibilities that shift with each thought, feeling, and action that you experience.”

LEGENDARY
i find the way europeans call summer a “heatwave” very cute
yeah nah it’s not normal. we usually barely get two weeks over 20°c here in northern germany. now it’s been over 2 months where it hasn’t gone below 20°c even at night and we’ve been scratching at 30°c for 2 weeks. and it’s dry as fuck, it hasn’t rained in weeks. farmers are seeing the worst harvest in a century because of it, they’re expecting a loss of at least 50% compared to last year.
I find the way people are mocking Europeans for not being used to extreme heat (yes it is extreme for them considering their normal climate) and making light of actual deaths from heatstroke/exhaustion, pretty fucking disgusting actually, OP.
it’s not just a heatwave. In February, we had -20°C - five months later, same place, it’s close to 40°C. That’s 60°C difference - 140°Fahrenheit. That’s not cute.
just some selected effects of this europe’s heatwave:
denmark: more than 1,000 wildfires in july alone, which is a typical yearly total
france: white storks suffering from malnourishment, and, unable to fly, they get injured when falling from nests
germany: 10,000lbs of fish suffocated in hamburg because rivers are unable to release heat efficiently
greece: the attica wildfires were the deadliest in living memory, with 90+ confirmed to be dead
poland: outbreaks of toxic cyanobacteria, which only formed due to the warmer weather, forced beaches to close
portugal and spain: saw almost record-breaking temperatures of 46C+/115F+ which contributed to several deadly wildfires
sweden: the government issued 1.2 billion krona (approx. $191million) in aid for farmers, as the droughts made crops and livestock at serious risk
netherlands: asphalt roads melted all over the country, which caused long-term damage as car tyres peel it away from the road
united kingdom: manchester and several other areas burned for three weeks, with effects estimated to last for 15 years
our infrastructure isn’t designed for this. stop belittling countries you know nothing about
“The fact is, a 14-year-old girl may be capable of agreeing to sex with a 49-year-old man, but she doesn’t have the emotional and mental maturity to consent. I was 25 before I realized that every man I’d slept with as a teenager was a pedophile. It seemed to me that since I’d courted the attention, that I was fully culpable. What teenager believes she is not mentally or emotionally capable of full consent? I thought I was an adult, although when I look at the picture of myself from the time period above, I see a child. I thought I was the exception for these men, the girl so precocious and advanced that it superseded social norms. I thought that I was “older than my chronological age.” It never occurred to me as a young sexually active teen that the adult men I had relationships with may have been manipulating me, that they had designs and motives I couldn’t see from my limited child’s perspective.”

Everyone should read this article if they haven’t already. The anecdotes are upsetting and carry major TW (pedophilia, graphic depictions of sex), but the message is just so on point.
