Now that Nanotyrannus is being widely accepted as a valid taxon, we need someone to make another one of those Lion King prehistoric AU fanarts but it’s set in the Hell Creek Formation, and specifically have Nanotyrannus taking the role of the hyenas. T.rex would of course be in place of the lions. I won’t sit here and list every African megafauna/Lion King character-to-dinosaur role, but perhaps for two last ones, have Triceratops be the wildebeest, and maybe Infernodrakon and Dakotaraptor as either Timon, Pumba, or Rafiki.

I just love the irony of the faunal switcheroo that occurred between the Mesozoic and Cenozoic.

Like, for the longest time, mammals were the highly diverse small fry, with some notable big ones, lots of different small ones, and ones who do some weird things. And the dinosaurs and their kin (plesiosaurs, pterosaurs especially) were the large and ecosystem dominating organisms, wild and varied and BIG. Then in a blink of an eye in geologic terms, the roles have since switched.

Now the birds are the small but highly diverse small fry a few big members and lots of weird ones. And the mammals are the big and dynamic ecosystem dominating organisms.

I should note however that it isn’t a one to one reversal. The most speciose group of mammals are still relatively small in overall body size with a few outliers. Unlike Mesozoic mammals that had a few outlying genera of large bodied hunters of small dinosaurs, there whole clades of predatory birds who still hunt small to mid-sized mammals.

So I guess I’m saying the trends overall have reversed, but the relationship is much more dynamic than that.

Now that Deadpool 3 is out and Channing Tatum is Gambit, I kinda want to him with Anna Paquin’s Rogue tbh.

Don’t take the wrong way. This franchise (specifically the rebooted version) is up there with my favorite franchises.

But I have one critique that has been eating me up lately since I saw the newest one: I want the apes to be, in a way, more ape-like.

Let me explain: I simply want them to incorporate more of the species-specific behaviors we recognize in the apes to shine through in conjunction with their heightened intelligence.

For example, if modern gorillas have a social structure dominated by a dominant male (the silverback), with a harem of females and associated lesser males (known as blackbacks), then I’d like to see that translated into a higher intelligence gorilla society. Perhaps you could have them be a largely agrarian species with a focus on agriculture (since they’d still be vegetarian) and a strength based culture where a wanderer male could ritualistically challenge a silverback for the harem.

Another example could be how in some species, it’s the females who leave to find new troops, so perhaps there could be ceremonies where different ape tribes (of appropriate species) come together and exchange females.

Another thing related to this statement is that I want the main ape characters to look more ape-like. Like you can literally see it in Caesar and Noa how the creative team made them more appealing to the human audience (I get why they did this, I’m not stupid, but I just want them to appear just a little more like actual chimpanzees). Such traits I focus on are the eyes. If you look at a chimpanzee, they have instead of whites in their eyes, they have “darks”. I wish this would’ve been more incorporated into the designs. The other apes also have whites but in some species this may be present versus with chimps. And if it isn’t then it’s done less obviously than with the main ape characters.

Anyways, those are my only two real critiques, which aren’t even really critiques as in nitpicks or “this is how I would’ve done it”. I was a little sparse about the details about ape eyes and social structure but that’s because I primarily know only bare basics of those subjects and did not have time to research them properly (this was written on the fly). I may rewrite this and add more details later if this is received well.

Going back to my previous post, I feel that, in an alternate scenario where Janna and Marco got together, I feel that they’re relationship should be 60% snark, 40% soft, PG stuff. And 100% having a complete understanding of each other, pushing the other to be their best selves while not trying to change them.

I’d also like to see them definitely be friends first. Always teasing each other, with Janna doing most Develop a closeness, a bond, a fondness for each that they try not to show but everyone sees it. They come to rely on each and are always having each other’s back especially if they are both trapped in Hekapoo’s dimension, the witch and the warrior.

Not going to lie, but Janna and Marco are undeniably my favorite pairing out of the whole Marco Diaz harem debacle from Star vs the Forces of Evil.

I really like their dynamic and I think it would be interesting to see them older and potentially together, or at least the journey of them getting together.

Just as Marco became a badass warrior in that dimension he was trapped in, I can see Janna as a badass witch or sorceress in that same dimension. They could be traveling companions or they routinely run into each other, constantly snarking at each other in a flirtatious manner that makes those around them always questioning if there’s something going on between them, which of course they’ll neither confirm nor deny.

May even turn this into a story or fanfic, have Star and Marco stay friends, Janna and Marco in heavy ship tease until they develop a budding romance, Tom is also their friend who tries to get back with Star. They go their adventures with it ending on Star and Tom needing to return to their own dimensions as a part of the “save the worlds” finale. But this time they stay separated, and Marco and Janna are left with each other and the memories they made with their friends.

Turned into a lot for a simple “I ship Janco” post lol

When Yaz starts remarking about how Mantah Corp made the Spinoceratops homeothermic and she immediately transitions into saying they’ve spent too much time around Darius.

Stranger Things 4 Vol 2: Thoughts ... (mild spoilers, will try to be vague, but also don’t look at any of the tags)

So, that was quite a ride. I tell ya, the older I get, the more emotional I feel towards well-written fictional characters. I was also kind of expecting for everyone to be in the know now, but I guess it’s another *****up (hint: five letters and it’s related to what some do with mishaps). 

Yeah, I was happy with some scenes, cried in others (y’all know), the usual.

More Stranger Things S4 Vol 1 Stuff: Fav Lumax Scenes!

This is an outline of some of my favorite scenes involving the Lumax ship. Some background on my feelings toward the ship; I think it is a good ship. I wasn’t a fan of how they wrote Lucas’ initial interactions with Max (the whole “watching her through binoculars” with his friends), but they also did that with Jonathan and Nancy in season 1 (which one was worse is up to you to decide). I guess the writers are keen on using that trope for their characters, or maybe that’s what the kids did back then (still not a good thing to be doing though). Despite that, I do feel that Lucas and Mac had a great rapport following the rest of season 2. Do I feel that they could’ve used more interactions in season 3, yeah, but I feel that Lucas wasn’t a part of that season’s focus, and their relationship did feel typical of middle school tweens. In season 4, they took it up a notch, having Lucas truly care for Max’s well being and only being able to reach so much, and Max slowly realizing that it’s okay to let in the people who care about. It gave me some strong season 2 Lumax vibes. 

So, now that the lengthy context is out of the way, let’s dive into some of my favorite Lumax moments. 

Moment 1. Lucas waving at Max and Max giving him the cold shoulder. This really sets up the fact that a drift has occurred between the two. This wasn’t a silly little break up where Max was tired of whatever antics Lucas was doing that week and Lucas managed to get right and smooth things over with her. This was a serious breakup. Lucas still cared for her, but she was putting distance between her and him (and the world). At this point, we had no clue what was going on, and only had watch more to piece things together. 

Moment 2. Lucas knowing Max’s favorite song and the Vecna attack flashbacks. This part of Vecna’s attack really showed us two things: Lucas really knew Max and cared for her more than we may given him credit for, and for Max, all of those moments with Lucas really meant something to her. Would I dare to call it love...only if the cast members, writers, and characters themselves would. But you cannot deny the bond these two share (yes, I’m aware that El, Dustin, and Mike were apart of those flashbacks too which I greatly enjoyed, but this is a Lumax fav scene review).

Moment 3. The laugh in the Creel House. So, this scene was also a major favorite. Just because of Sadie Sink’s nonverbal acting. When Lucas makes Max laugh, and he tells her he missed that, you can see through Sadie’s acting that something is going through Max’s head, something that to me looked like longing and wanting express some kind of feeling she has towards Lucas. I’ve seen some that said it looked like they should’ve kissed there (which they may or may not have been serious), but I don’t necessarily think she would’ve done so. But she definitely wanted to do or say something. 

Moment 4: The walk (and talk) in the woods. While searching for Eddie, Lucas and Max are paired up again and they are talking. Here is a Caleb McLaughlin shine as I feel that he delivered perfectly how many have felt when we try to understand what was going with a friend or family member who’s going through rough time, only to be rebuffed and then deciding to give them space and let them come to you, then when you do see what’s going on, you feel such guilt over being so blind that you want them to know that you’re aware of their pain and are truly here for them. They way Lucas tells Max “I see you” and the look she gives back is just so good acting and emotional wise. To top it off, the fact that Max still genuinely shows concern for Lucas at the start of the conversation is just another way of showing how much she truly cares for Lucas, even if she doesn’t exactly admit it out loud. Plus, I really loved Robin’s reaction to their conversation. She really is one of the greats. 

So, yeah, there goes some of other thoughts on Stranger Things 4 Vol 1. Just gonna sit here and wait for the second volume like dog waiting to be fed. Lumax is great, may end doing another piece on my thoughts on shipping in general sometime though. Expect more things in the future. Have a good time out there!

Stranger Things S4 Vol 1: Simple Thoughts

These are some of my some of favorite moments. I may go into more detail on some these in the future, but I figured I would just create a simple outline to start.

1. Max almost getting Vecna’d, Lucas knowing her favorite song, Steve and Dustin putting reassuring or comforting hands on them. 

2. Max and Lucas talking in the woods, plus Robin’s reaction.

3. Dustin’s ego, plus Steve and Eddie’s reactions to it.

4. Argyle, just Argyle.

5. Steve going beast mode on the demobat and the others coming in to help him.

6. Nancy and Robin’s budding friendship.

7. Lucas’ attempts to reach out to Max.

8. Lucas choosing the safety of his friends over the going with the “cool crowd” (or I guess not-so-cool crowd).

9. Their portrayal Max in general, how she’s shut everyone out but eventually opens back up. 

10. Everyone’s parents looking concerned at the fact that the town of Hawkins is turning into a mob, looking for their kids. 

11. The reveal of who Vecna really is. That was honestly insane, and I didn’t really put every piece together until it was almost right there. 

12. Suzie’s home life. 

13. Getting a good look at Eleven’s past.

14. Eleven knocking Angela’s lights out. Honestly, I think she deserved some level of retribution.

15. Erica not taking anyone’s shit. Especially Jason’s.

16. Chrissy ad Eddie’s budding friendship, before, well...you know.

17. Mike and Will repairing their friendship (I see the appeal of Byler, I just don’t want to get any hopes up. They may repair Mike and El’s relationship, have Mike and El break up and have Mike and Will be together, or they may still have Mike and El break up and have Mike and Will be “friends”. Honestly, it could go anyway.)

18. Hopper and Enzo vs the USSR’s Demigorgon.

First New Thing: Lumax, Season 4 Vol 1 snippet

So, I won’t go too heavy into it as I am saving it for a real review of the season/volume. But I just wanted to say, probably like everyone who puts a Lumax tag on their post, that the scenes between Lucas and Max were a favorite of mine when watching the season. There’s one scene in particular were I was just extremely moved by, and it’s probably not the one that you’re thinking of (it is also paired with one of my favorite Robin scenes). 

I intend to do a deep dive on my favorite moments, scenes, and/or aspects of the season/volume, likely to be publish on Saturday or Sunday, so be expecting it. Other than that, enjoy yourselves, and Lumax stans, continue to eat up Season 4 Vol 1, but do so responsibly and out of respect to the other ships please.

Hey Tumblr-folk, especially to the camp cretaceous fandom.

Apologies for my long absence, grad school can do that to a person. But, I have decided to come back, despite my perpetual busyness and start making some think pieces of favorite shows and movies, because I’ve got a lot to talk about.

For those interested, expect some think pieces related to Stranger Things Season 4 Vol 1, Camp Cretaceous, Dragons The Nine Realms, Avatar 2 trailer, Central Park, He-Man and the Masters of the Universe (the cgi one), Amphibia, The Owl House, and others, because boy howdy do have some things to say about them. Some of them, especially Camp Cretaceous, is long overdue.

I’ll try to have them delivered in a bi-weekly manner, with some leeway here and there.
